I don't mind paying for good content either, I too would pay for well written, interesting stuff.
I just dont see that in either of GW publications, their quality is no better than a lot of stuff on the net, its a shame too.

I dont blame it entirely on the net either, as pacific says, there are still good magazines, there will always be people that prefer physical format as well, but will there always be enough of them to sustain the market ?

I only really buy magazines now if I am travelling, thats customary !

White Dwarf has declined over the years, unfortunately I wasn't around to enjoy the old 90s/ early 00s monthly issues. The last monthly issues 2011+ were some times decent but 20 pages were taken up by LOOK HOW COOL THIS NEW MODEL IS! I always enjoyed army of the month, the battle reports were okay and some of the articals were interesting but not often memorable. The new weekly issues are much more entertaining- the narritive battle reports are enjoyable, rules and disscussion on how models/units preform in game was something older white dwarfs failed to entertain. I don't collect the weekly issues as there is no stockist of the magazine, some do sell Warhammer visions but they don't appear to sell well- nevertheless when ever I make it to GW I do look forward to picking up the latest issue.
Even though the content (battle reports, painting guides etc.) is all over the Internet, but there is nothing like an actual magazine. In terms of the price- other weekly magazines such as sport etc. are pricey (as mentioned in an earlier post).

@Rayvon - I think circulation is always a problem in our hobby. it's a small niche hobby to start with, and it's fractured into several groups who are after different things, a big chunk of whom aren't interested in print magazines. For those who are, the requirement for a print magazine is that it must be on glossy paper offset print with an accurate 4+ color process, which makes it expensive to produce -- no newsprint or black and white; it's not like 2600.

To produce a magazine monthly, nevermind weekly, is probably just not going to happen for most publishers.

For a magazine that's brand-agnostic, it becomes hard to find advertisers, too, because a lot of manufacturers in the hobby are tiny, and don't do any advertising that bears any cost. However, that said, I would love and generic magazine with tons of ads from companies that produce bits, tools, odd models, and that kind of thing.

I'm not so sure. There's at least 3 glossy monthly magazines that are available in the UK. I think it's actually easier to be brand agnostic, because you can get publshers, guest writers and have almost infinite scope for content. It must be a real struggle to keep producing decent content for White Dwarf on a weekly basis with the budget it gets. Especially if you can't cover anything that they don't current sell. No DIY terrain building, conversions (that aren't kit bashes), no specialist games, and so on.

Indeed, it's not the quality of the writers that's the problem, it's the restrictions put on them in terms of the tiny scope they have to write about stuff.

WD is dog fecal matter. They should let it die in peace and move to an online presence.
