On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Thanks for the write-ups Notprop. After reading some reviews on the Battlefront T72s (which apparently are a bit basic according to some accounts) I ended up going with the QRF miniatures of the same, which are quite cool in that you can get some different varieties (reactive armour versions etc.) and considering they are metal they are only £1 or so more expensive each. Good to hear that the sculpt is of a good quality with the Chieftan, it certainly looks more detailed in the pics.

I have ended up just getting my own Soviet bombers as 1/100 plastic kits though (which you can usually find for £3-4 each). Add on a tall flight stand and you're done, although helps if you enjoy making plastic kits as obviously there is a bit more work involved than you would have with the Battlefront resins.

Anyone else going to paint their tanks and vehicles in the blocky blue Berlin Brigade paint scheme?

Not me, British Fightin' Green all the way!

Just need some black camo.

Also (and I know I'm behind the curve on this) what the hell is up with BF changing paint names?!?! Poor show, I stuck with my old paint, none of the this rebranded muck!

Gonna give it a shot. I have a few extra Chieftans from buying two boxes. Looks like a real pain to paint, but damn it looks hot. Mez

I gave it some serious thought, as I think they look really cool. I'm just not sure I'm up for the amount of time and work it would take to do it properly.

Have there been any useful guides online from the people that have done it? (i've seen a few examples in the Team Yankee facebook page for example, so it has been done)

Perhaps something using stencils or masking tape/air brush would be most straightforward?

There is painting article on the TY website for the Berlin scheme. They BF guy that did it started out by making vinyl stencils but gave up and hand painted it IIRC.

Also I went all in yesterday and picked up 2 boxes of FV432s and a Mech Company.

I'm loving the APC's, the swing fire particularly looks nice. Just working a plan out for magnetising the different choices.

No sure about how to wok in the mortar option at the moment

Anyone know if the Berlin Brigade had some kind of armored car in the same camouflage scheme?

Honestly, I'm going to go ahistorical and try to paint this scheme on as much stuff as I can, maybe even the infantry.

I'm thinking prime white, paint on the other shapes referencing front sides top and back, then pin wash.

If I was to make a stencil, most likely I'd make a 3d stencil out of green stuff. Make a thin-ish sheet of green stuff mixed in a ratio that makes it flexible. Lightly press on the vehicle coated in water to prevent sticking. Let it harden a little, then cut out the shapes. I'd only do this for the tanks though.

Looking into it the BF Berlin Scheme seems rather more brown than many of the photos I've seen in my brief searches which looks more White/Grey with some brown.

I don't know, but it looks pretty close to THIS from Armoured Acorn.

Yeah, looking at it the BF guy went a bit heavy with the weathering.

My limited knowledge/reading/research on the subject said that all the vehicles were painted in that same pattern to confuse counts and identification, so would guess the cars were too. I doubt that infantry had the pattern though, but as you said, we are playing an ahistorical WW3 game so have fun!

From http://www.emlra.org/index.php/articles/berlin-brigade-urban-paint-scheme:
Following acceptance and encouragement by his Brigade Commander, the opportunity arose to show it to the Corps Commander. He came to Berlin to see for himself. Allegedly, he said "I can't see your f*****g tank, must be a good idea" The paint scheme was adopted by the squadron and subsequently by all British forces in Berlin. Each vehicle was to be painted to the same pattern; the same size blocks of colour and pattern would make it harder to determine the strength of the British Forces because they all looked the same.

I like your priming white, blocking other colors (grey/blue and brown), and dipping with a brown media method. I'll probably give that a go, but will be a few months until I get through my painting backlog, so I'm excited to see what others come up with regarding effort vs. results.

You may be playing an ahistorical war, but the units and equipment that you're using are historically accurate for the most part.

And no one really cares if you are historical because it's WW3.

I always have an extra bit of appreciation if someone has made that effort to be accurate with a historical game.

That being said the game is based on a book which itself did not have a completely accurate understanding of the forces the Soviets had ready to commit. There would have most likely been more T80s than T72s for instance, something which only came to light following 1989. But as the Team Yankee game is faithful (for the time being) to the contents of the book we only have the T72 for the time being.

I believe that OD or brownish color was the actual base color for the vehicles, and the white and blue-grey was painted over it. For a miniature, though, it might work better the way you are planning.
