Hello again,

I have a new and improved paint scheme that I am thinking of trying out and your input would be most appreciated!

The new, more colourful scheme is on the left. I am trying to mimic the current Thousand Sons armour colours not just because I am tired of painting red but also because it will really help them stand out far more. Apologies for the pic, I have yet to download a good editing program on my new laptop and Dakka made everything look very overexposed. Still, you get the general idea.

Also, look what showed up at my door!

This big beasty is just one of the things that I bought with the FW budget but unfortunately I neglected to buy some superglue from town so they are currently a pile of bits...

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays,

Cain

Hey gang,

University is keeping me busy as usual but I managed to whip up a gun battery for my Spireguard this week. More blue paint again which makes for a nice change!

Afternoon all,

With the new rumours of a Thousand Sons update coming soon I decided to bring this blog up to date with all the models I have been working on. Gotta paint up those models to prepare for more after all!

Some of these models I have shown already but I took some new pictures of them to show off a bit more detail.

First off we have the jetbike I previewed many, many months ago.

And here is a different jetbike from Chapterhouse Studios

I also got not one but two bike squads painted up!

I have many other things painted up but no pictures of them yet. I'll leave you with this sneek peek of things to come!

Thanks Prime, feels good to be back!

Despite my inability to post any pictures I have been hard at work painting however it is mostly just touchups on older models so nothing much to show until I have a good light box setup.

Speaking of bad pictures, here is my mostly finished sergeant converted from an Emperor's Champion.

He looks much better in person as the colours are much bolder and not nearly as dark but I just wanted to prove that I haven't been sitting idly!

That's a nice conversion, almost a shame he's only a Sgt

The Emperor's Champion strikes too great a pose not to use for something.

Thanks! If it's any consolation he is a member of the Scarab Occult so he is still one of the top dogs

I know it is a fantastic model. The nasty GW resin turned out to be pretty handy as it let me carve off the original head in order to switch it out. Converting metal figures it a nightmare...

Thanks very much! I always appreciate comments, keeps me inspired to paint and post more.

The squad to accompany the converted champion is almost finished as is a group of TSons undergoing the flesh change.

Until then I thought I would show off what I consider to be one of the worst paintjobs in the entire army. Why you ask? Partly to shame myself into repainting him to look as good as I know it can and also to ask how I could make it fit into the army a little better.

As it is, the model seems too generic space marine which is fine for a regular infantry model but not a venerable dread! I am considering trying a similar look to the FW contemptor but am afraid that it will look too gaudy that way. Maybe just some better paint and a lot of freehand symbols?

The Dread looks fine to me. But if you want to repaint it, then by all means, repaint it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Prime!

Once again I managed to get distracted from putting the finishing touches to the veteran squad and painted up a new dreadnought instead.

It is a mashup of three different variants as I was trying to give across a good sorcerer look for the build. I also tried out making some Thousand Sons symbols out of plasticard which I am very pleased with. I also added a gs cloth with some little tabs on it inspired by Skits' 1K Sons blog.

Overall I'm very happy with this guy and I feel like I am getting the hang of painting again after a bit of a break. Still need to do some more work on the silver parts of the body and patch up the base but I've already started on the next project so it could be some time before I get round to it!

Thank's for reading folks,

Today is the day that the Burning of Prospero set was officially announced as well as the 5th anniversary of me having started my Thousand Sons army!

Naturally I will be picking up the new set as well as Betrayal at Calth to boost my ranks of marines (because you can never have too many..)

Until then however I have many more troops to work through, figured today would be a good tome to post the pics of my finished veteran squad. The models come from all over; Calgar's honour guard, grey knights, Anvil Industry, pretty much anyone who could wield a curvy blade got in!

Still playing around in photoshop to get the colour balance right on my pictures. They're very zoomy in the gallery if you want to check em out in detail.

Feedback is always appreciated!

All this Thousand Sons stuff reminds me that this is an AU army, so I'd like to ask you where your AU Magnus is.

I've been wondering the same thing myself! While I am tempted to pick up either the GW or FW versions I am still toying with the idea that in my timeline he was murdered by members of his own legion. After all, Magnus was the one responsible for bringing the wrath of the big E down on Prospero so it would make sense that the residents of the planet would hold a great deal of resentment towards him. Maybe Ahriman or other high-ranking members of the TSons confronted him before the Space Wolves arrived at the planet? Alternatively I am tempted to mirror what happened in GW canon and have the Sons being the ones invading Fenris against the Wolves who have turned to Chaos (I really need to model some of them now I think about it..)

It never stops being fun developing your own alternate timeline. I wish I could write down all the ideas I have but there are just so many haha

Thanks! Pretty happy with the champion myself

Thank ya sir, looking forward to tackling a contemptor next, they have so much more conversion opportunity than the angry washing machine pattern!

Decided to start work on my last remaining jetbikes which I just unearthed from the back of my cupboard. Just when you think the painting pile has shrunk you find a whole load more stuff...

Those conversions are truly inspiring. The weapons especially make me salivate. The plasticard symbol looks authentic.

How much of your work has been inspired by the Dornian Heresy T-Sons?

Thanks for the kind words Bob! It gives me a lot of much needed energy to keep painting

I googled the Dornian Heresy to remind myself what it was and was surprised to see a pic of one of my models be the second result haha. I would say that it inspired me to come up with my own timeline as I found it very interesting to see how other's thought it might develop but honestly I have't sat down long enough to really think about the bigger picture other than the TSons and maybe the Space Wolves.

It's funny to think how a lack of access to older marks of marine armour led me to create an entirely new universe from which to build my army but I suppose that just goes to show how engrossing the 40K lore has become.

Also, while I was googling around I came across this awesome piece of artwork. I was unable to find out who the artist was but I felt like it needed sharing!

Again, Not mine! though I am tempted to base a mini off it as it is so awesome!

Haha thanks guys, I've already begun assembling the bitz! Turns out a lot of plasticard and gs is in order to make anything that looks half decent

Pretty much finished with the last jetbike in my collection. Still need to add some more symbols and base it up but I'm happy with the base paintjob.

Also this is apparently my 1000th image in the Dakka gallery so huzzah!

I tried out painting the same symbols that I spotted on the TSons marines in the new HH box set, not perfect but they add a nice bit of style.

And here's a shot of the almost finished bike squad. Might go around and add some highlights to them and some earth-effects but I think they look awesome together. Just need to add the Javelin Landspeeder to the mix and that is all my floaty machines finished (until I buy more of course).

Not actually sure if I ever posted the second closest biker now I look at this pic. I'll have to take some closer shots..

Not sure what to tackle next though. I may try and keep my painting streak running for as long as I can to justify buying more stuff for Christmas...

Just a quick update to say that I have ordered both the Prospero and BaC sets that I plan on delving into starting December. I only have 30 or so marines left to paint up before then so I should have a nice clear hobby table well before then!

As I will have a massive amount of minis to deal with (almost 80!) I am eager to hear if there is anything people think I should add to the army. Would you like to see some more sorcerers? Specialised infantry? I am already planning out my contemptor dreadnought conversion and plan to make him look something like the fella below. Any other requests are welcome!

Last jetbike looks good dude.

As for what you should do with some of the incoming infantry how about special/heavy weapon squads?

Like the sketch of the dread, nice cross between the 2 styles.

Ooh good idea on the special weapons, I spotted some really weird guns on some old RT models so maybe I could make a modern version of them!

Evening folks,

Somehow it's been a month since I updated this spot but I have not been idle! Mostly I have just been doing boring stuff like adding additional highlights or patching up some older model, a necessary evil but one that makes a big difference in my eyes!

I also made a chunk of progress on the land speeder. Might add a few glyphs, touch up a few spots and call it a job well done.

I am also considering doing an army-wide rebasing (the second since I stared this force haha) and am considering doing something along the lines of the GW shattered dominon bases for a damaged Prospero look.

I'm quite fond of the white and blue paint scheme so I may do up a few mock ups tonight and see which I prefer.

Some of you may remember these bases I did a while back and I think they still hold up now. A white/tan paint scheme could also help the models stand out much better than their current greeny brown ones. It would also let me justify rebasing everyone on 32mm bases as it gives the models much more breathing room.

I'd love some input on my basing plans! Any particular scenes you would like to see on the larger bases? I quite fancy having a big ruined temple column base for one of my flyers.

IT'S HERE!

My Prospero set has finally shown up and oh boy is it awesome! I spent ages just looking over the sprues to see what possibilities it held and there sure are plenty. Just look at all that plastic goodness...

It is quite an overwhelming amount of miniatures so I decided to hunt down some TSons artwork for inspiration. Fortunately I have a whole gallery of them on my laptop and from it I selected this one.

The idea of an entire squad toting plasma guns sounds awesome so I quickly got to work and whipped up a sergeant for the team.

Pretty happy with how he turned out. One question though, should he have the plasma pistol or be casting a spell?

Edit: I realize now that I am lacking three plasma guns to make the squad up to ten so instead I may model a few of them throwing plasma bolts from their hands instead. How hard could it be?? Also, the boardgame pieces are fantastic inspiration for basing ideas as they are littered with symbols and other bits that should be fairly easy to translate into 3D

Slowly making progress on my plasma squad. I unearthed a plasma cannon in my bitz box as well so naturally it ended up getting used.

These tiles also make a great looking background for pictures!

Oh and fear not, those barrels will get drilled out just as soon as I can find my toolbox...

First tactical squad is built and they are looking magnificent! I have added crests to all of them (barring the captain who is waiting on a better head) and it really gives them a good tsons vibe.

Hope you like them! I may add some flames or something coming from the captain's power fist, how hard could it be??
