Seems a odd choice ? Unless the khorn game is the cover release and it includes a game card for his use in the game a.that could drive extra sales of the game

From what I've read that is exactly the intended purpose. There will be AOS rules and gore chosen rules for the mini in the magazine. (This is all courtesy of Adhoc games on TGA)

Well, if nothing else, it will give me something to sell on eBay. Hardly the "Best Cover Mount Ever" as it was billed. Utterly worthless if you ask me.

It's a great miniature. What freeby has been comparable?

The only disappointment is that they haven't included somewhere cheap of getting the exalted deathbringer with impaling spear. The Silver Tower expansion and gorechosen overlap on the slaughterpriest with axe, and the start collecting khorne and WD overlap on the slaughterpriest with helmet. With one of those two overlaps, they could have included all of the generic khorne plastic characters (with both, they could have foisted a skarr bloodwrath on us, which would have been disappointing).

Considering GW charges $30 for single figure clam packs these days, it's the most valuable cover mount to date

I think the white dwarf was a better freebie.
Trouble is they can't really win as if they put the spacemarine in it the fantasy players wont think its the best cover mount ever and visa versa.
A space marine would be the better option though, as more 40k players and more factions would be able to use it with out converting it(even chaos players)

Though i would prefer a plastic white dwarf, which can be liked out side of wether someone can use it in a game.

Which white dwarf came with an issue of white dwarf (we're not talking about subscription miniatures)?

It is a very well designed model with an excellent pose, probably the best Khorne character to date. It will be useable in AOS, silver tower, and gore chosen. I have also seen some pretty good 40k conversions. I don't play chaos but I am looking forward to painting it up. Here is a good example.

I am not saying it is a bad model. I am saying that it isn't the best thing ever. It is worthless to the vast majority of GW customers.

Off the top of my head the freebies I can think of are: mission cards, an Ork Brawling Mini Game, the occasional miniature, a comic, AOS rules Pamphlet.

The best subscription bonus was when they gave Gorkamorka with a years subscription. I got 2 years worth of subscriptions that year.

For the longest time they gave a $15 box set of your choice, which back them was like a 6 pack of guys or a bike.

If they put a freebie with every issue, I'm sure it go a long way to clear issues off the shelves and keep retailers happy.

You are correct that it is not a space marine.

Honestly, I would rather they gave a voucher to subscribers that let us choose from a short list of characters. Maybe one or two from each faction. That way everyone would be happy.

While I understand that this model may not be to your taste ( and I would have preferred a steampunk white dwarf), I can't understand this opinion.
It is useful to anyone who plays chaos in AOS, 40k, or 30k. It is useful to the thousands of customer who picked up silver tower, or will pick up gorechosen and finally it is useful to anyone who just wants to paint a nice miniature. That seems like a pretty broad selection of customers. Also as a hero character you can use it as is, you don't need to buy the rest of a squad. The liberator by comparison was considerably more worthless.
Obviously your suggestion of a voucher is better, but it does not have the impact of a miniature stuck to the front of a magazine.

That would be prohibitively expensive for GW to do. Not only would they have to have a huge supply of figures available, there would be labor costs to pick and pack, plus packaging materials, and shipping costs.

Vouchers to turn in at retailers for existing clam packs would cost them nearly $30 a pop. ($30 minus the retailers discount, plus labor, plus packaging and shipping for replacement figure )

Free minis are hardly new thing in WD. Okay so it's most valuable but that's due to huge price hikes in character models due to becoming plastic.

For being branded "best ever" I did expect something not seen before. Okay it's freebie so hardly reason to complain but again...It's not something not seen before AND it will leave all non-AOS fans not interested.

Again it's not bad in itself but for first new WD and being taunted as "best ever" I was expecting something more inventive. And something that would be usable by either game system players.

This feels like it would be more appropriate as 3rd or 4th freebie(if the rumour of first 4 having freebie). 1st something awesome not seen before type usable by either system that would really fit descriptiona as "best ever", then the cartoon freebie and then free miniatures for AOS and 40k. That's how I would do it. First something big to get fans buy first WD. This attracts fans of one subfaction of game that's not even biggest seller of GW. Very small target.

Not necessarily, when I worked at GW in 05-06 WD sub people had a choice of a few different models to choose from. The SM capt with 2 handed thunderhammer running forward, Inq Giddion Lor ( the finger pointing witch-hunter), the female Inq. Fantasy had a few figgies including the WD to choose from, hell even LotR had a few guys to choose from....

And if that is the 'new Khorne' aesthetic im going to weep openly for my beloved Kharn....capt of the 8th assault company...

I have to agree 'best ever' doesn't really describe that figure well. I've ordered a subscription anyway but I can honestly say I have next to no interest in that model. I was expecting a plastic white dwarf, I had a free white dwarf figure years ago which currently leads my longbeards, it has a two handed axe held close in and vertical and there were special scenarios in the magazine. Now a plastic version with AoS and warhammer quest rules would have been something special.

White dwarf would have been...well at least classical. Still wouldn't neccessarily say that's best ever before either. How this white dwarf would have been different to previous white dwarfs? (well unless he's sigmarined white dwarf!)

Would still have been a) something done before b) still only targeting part of fan base. Good yes but what would make it "best ever" freebie?

By being exclusive to that issue for starters; also as a clear sign that the white dwarf is back, back to the glory days and not 'buy the giant!'

By not focusing on the new hotness week to week, they'll cut down on leaks and as a result the magazine will hopefully be less about the new hotness, and more about general hobby stuff like it used to be. I'm very hopeful, and getting a free mini or two out of it is icing on the cake!

And cutting down on the "leaks" will just kill the excitement for future products. This still mind boggles me why GW would not want to share what they are working on. Again two steps forward, one step back. I still find GW petty when it comes to this.

That said, at least the two steps forward GW is doing really good right now. Well for GW standards that is.

Funny how there was even more leaks and further in advance than week before WD went weekly...Yeah WD needs to be weekly to have leaks yes it does! NOT!

Week early leak isn't much of excitement anyway. Better source of excitement comes from guys like Sad Panda, hastings etc who gives out ideas MONTHS ahead. That does not require weekly wd.

Indeed. You don't require leaks to generate excitement for future products, you just need a halfway sensible marketing policy. How and where the printed mags fit into that alongside web announcements, social media and such is all part of that. And in fairness it seems GW are improving in these regards.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Well the cover mounts don't seem that spectacular, so I'll grab it digitally for the first few issues to see if it lives up to the hype.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

I'm going to endeavour to grab the new issue for the model at any rate, but this promise of new content is most exciting. I still reckon WD was the best it's been in recent years when it went to the larger format (the last iteration before Weekly), that was always packed full of stuff and even if a lot of it was just pretty pictures, there was always an article or three worth reading. A return to that kind of thing would be most welcome, and at one a month, I think I'm much more likely to buy regularly down the line.

I think the pre-order subscription offers are pretty fair for a modern day print publication, if White Dwarf is your thing a 12 month "introductory offer" subscription nets you more than 3 "free" issues in a year. The taster 3 month subscription basically nets you a single free issue (well it is 50p more than the cost of two issues, but you get the idea).

These prices are valid until August 14th 2016.

I'll probably do the 3 month subscription - It's cheap enough that it's no big deal if it's not great, and i'll definitely get a copy with the freebie that way.
