Orcus isnt supposed to be that big anyway.

I do prefer the D&D minitures Balor to the Bloodthirster though.

Bigger does not necessarily mean better. That daemon also looks kinda chubby, especially with that thick sausage of an arm.

Thats what Orcus is like in AD&D 4thED he`s on the cover of Monster manual, i posted the pic to draw attention to how puny the GW demons are in comparison - im converting some D&D demons and would appreciate some ideas for source models of about the same size also ideas for Cthulu beasts would be nice.

Wow... I was thinking about buying one of those DnD Bloodthirsters just to paint up...

Now that I see a user picture of it though, it looks freaking terrible. It's like something that was too ugly even for GW's early days.

So, Bloodthirster model. Quite possibly a model older than many gamers, compared to something fresh....and still betterer than it....

Now, why don't you compare it to Angarrath?

Orcus was a god of the underworld, punisher of broken oaths in Italic and Roman mythology. He was more equivalent to the Roman Pluto than to the Greek Hades, and later identified with Dis Pater. He was portrayed in paintings in Etruscan tombs as a hairy, bearded giant. A temple to Orcus may have existed on the Palatine Hill in Rome. It is likely that he was transliterated from the Greek daemon Horcus, the personification of Oaths and a son of Eris.

Orcus made his first appearance in Eldritch Wizardry supplement for the original (white box) Dungeons and Dragons game (1976). He is described as a grossly fat demon lord with goat-like head and legs, holding the wand of death (Orcus' Wand).

Orcus is the only demon lord detailed in the 4th edition Monster Manual (2008), and he also appears on the cover.

He isn't a rip off of a bloodthirster as he came roughly 10 years before a bloodthirster.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Orcus.. What have they done to you? You used to be so cool looking!

And a bloodthirster is a hypergeneric demon. Nothing was stolen from anyone.

i started this post because i like the model (that's why i got it) i wasn't saying that it was a copy of BT but drawing attention to its vast looming size and at 50 quid seems better value than most GW stuff.
I seem to be on my own in thinking that it is a nice figure but i get the impression that most of the negative comments come from people who don't know what Orcus is supposed to be.
As has been pointed out by others Orcus is way older than the bloodthirster (which came into existence because GW wanted a Balrog but didnt want to pay royalties on it).

you payed £50 for that...? I could've sculpted you a better one out of a box of sculpey for half of that..

It's disappointing how little originality there is regarding the 'generic war demons' that we're seeing here... I mean really? surely there're deeper depths of inspirational material and motifs that can be employed to the same end..?

man if your going to use that orcus as your bloodthirster might as well use this as your cthulhu

But in all seriousness an all Lovecraftian demon army would be pretty badass. Get a hastur, some cultists, tchoo tchoo, byakhee... this is sounding good

You love it you slags!

Size isn't everything. It's all in how you use it.

Pay attention to what you said.

They're the "generic war demons" for a reason. The more abstract and original ones either flop miserably or are too rarely seen for anyone to get used to.

That's kinda why I was disappointed in Daemonettes. They don't look like they belong to Slaanesh-- there's no feel of seduction to them, or hedonism, or pleasure, or even excess... they look like they belong to Nurgle.

Hmm speaking of Ultraforge, do they still exist? I can't seem to order anything from their site (I wanted a Vrock).

EDIT: Most of those D&D models look terribad, IMO. That abomination included.
