One of the bulk 'job lot' auctions I pulled off of eBay contained a Chimera that had been lovingly converted into a 'Leman Russ". I stripped it down, and was going to use it for terrain, until the new Cadian formations came out, and the Basilisks returned as useful. Soooooo, into the bitz box we went...

Good move turning that old conversion into a basilisk. Looks like the top was an old panzer II, needs some crew

Gang are looking fantastic, that scheme has really paid off.

Nice save on the Basilisk, has turned ou well, Kinda like the idea of the larger platform covering the tracks like that.

Added the extended barrel, and built the gun elevation cylinders, and barrel breach.

There's no very little room in this beast, and I'm going to need to curve some styrene for the turret rotation ring. Coming along. My workbench is covered in Russ Parts (tm), as I test-fit various designs and such.

Things I am thinking about:

  • Ammo storage - main gun and secondaries

  • Driver and gunners - positions and controls

  • Seats.

  • The engine itself.

  • Watching a lot of "Fury", because it shows how people moved around in the tank, and how the commander's cupola works. Very enlightening.

Turret interior completed. Ammo storage for the heavy stubber, barrel breach, barrel elevation cylinders, the tank's main radio.

Exterior, hatch open, and a new mount fabricated for a 'modern' heavy stubber, a conceit for being able to use this tank in current 40K games, instead of the kit's storm bolter.

Need to sand and smooth our the barrel, but progress is made. Also fabricated a ring/shroud, which will have further edits as I design the interior of the main body.

    Enjoy!

That's interesting, I've never seem someone lavish that much attention on the interior of a leman Russ build. Looks really cool. My only complaint about Fury is why didn't the Germans just go around through the fields instead of right up the road?

Here's a shot of my thought process. It's as messy as one might suspect.

I pin-vised the engine hatch hinge, but it isn't sturdy, and won't stay closed, even with magnets, so I'm going to have to build something else.

I also opened up the hull mount area.

It was in a bin of stuff I'm prepping for eBay selling, from folks who have commissioned me to unload their old crap.

It needs...a LOT of love. Freakishly, I may have all the parts needed to salvage it into a Baneblade.

Nice job on the interior of the turret. I know how hard it is to make something fit in one of those.

    Thanks for all the encouragement!

Going through my leftover superheavy parts bin (tm), not only did I find that I had the missing track unit, but I also have enough pieces to build many of the variants.

Stripped off all of the extra pieces, opened the turret mount, and found pieces parts. Barrel is just there for illustration, will have to magnetize 'em up.

Lots and lots of work to do on this one, but the parts are there, and we're off to the races. Next up? Bath-time with simple green!

It is the original Armorcast version, abused. Salvaged pieces from modern superheavy GW kits will make it complete!
