Hello all, here I will be posting my progress on my Eldar army that I have decided to follow. After much debate between Altansar ,beil-tan and a possible DIY craftworld I was trying to get a paint scheme for, I have went with Altansar. The home world on my most favorite P-lord Maugan Ra.
I do have a few WIP's and a paint test model(nearly finished) at the moment and other stuff but thought I would start this army progress thread with the Eldar himself. First thing I have to say(to get it out the way) is that I saw this pose floating around the internet and loved it, so much that I have to copy it to a certain extent. Not to say I dont have a creative mind but the pose is so damn cool it has to be done.
So after some careful sawing with a saw thats meant for wood, I have a dismembered Ra. I'm going for the general hero shooting pose with one leg up on a chaos SM corpse. I have another Ra in case this one goes very wrong, but with the sawing being the hardest part its lookin pretty good so far.
Not much, but I like pics.
And some reposing later.
The greenstuff looks messy here, apart from the right hand grip for his weapon its actualy fairly tidy. I think as its an already painted model it looks..... well . Today will be Gst'ing a loin cloth and general tidy up of excess Gst(greenstuff).
C&C welcome.

Well finished the modeling and have started painting last night. So heres my converted Maugan Ra, I seem to be a little out of touch with my greenstuff working. The loin cloth was some what frustrating, and settled for what you see. Tried to make it more tattered than it is but could never get what I wanted it to look like. Add some Long Aerial/fin type things from the heavy support platform sprue and replaced the aiming thing at the end of the barrel. Needed somthing to make the Maugetar a little more menacing.
Let me know what you think so far.

Niiiiice repose. I especially like the fins and the replacement of the sights on the Maugetar.
Also, the paint on the blade is really good. If you're goign to do source lighting though, you should probably up the amount of reflection on the rest of the figure. Don't be shy with adding more green to the underside of the barrel, the cloth and that lower gem. Remember that this stuff is meant to be seen from 3 feet away or further, unless you're painting for a Golden Daemon. You also might want to echo the color back on the main body of the fig, to draw attention in rather than away from it (which is a problem with making the furthest extrmeity of a fig the flashiest part). If Ra's eyes had that same green glow and a little source lighting on his face, it would be extra-eerie...
But that's just a little constructive criticism. Overall, an excellent conversion and paint!

Didn't think to paint his eyes green, now that you said that will probably paint them green now. Might add a little more green light on more of him. Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Painted the eyes green, and does look better.
Decided to skip the avatar for now(modeling finished needs painted) stright to a wraithlord. Heres the base, the WL will be on top in a crouchinf pose. Much like another I saw on dakka. Will be going striking scorpions style.

I have to say the resculpt looks far far better painted than it did unpainted. It looks a wonderful job now. I'm fairly sure the Ork is just waiting to charge the Wraithlord...........

I love Maugan Ra too. The model is just excellent... but your repose brings him right up to date. Really like the top ribs you've sculpted too. Savnock was right on the money with the green eyes. He now pops.
Really looking forward to seeing the rest of your army as it comes together.
Now just remember to mind war that Ork Nob (with powerclaw) before charging the Ork Mob. It might take a few turns but it is so much fun hacking them apart with impunity.

Hey, thanks very much for the comments all.
Few pics of the WL WIP.
(whoops, looks like I did delete the wrong ones. bugger)
The mandiblaster style guns will count as the 2 flamers. Will be making the WL with magnets so can change it for a heavy weapons role as well.
C&C welcome.

Simply awesome Maugan Ra conversion. As PDH said, it really brings the model up to date and makes a huge difference to the feel and menace of the figure!
I really can't wait to see what else you've got in store. The WL looks promising already

Thanks very much all, haven't been up to much been busy with work and stuff.
Got the General armour work done on the upper half of the WL, I figured SS are pretty well (looks wise) armoured, and they have been fighting chaos (no doubt) while caught in the eye of terror and probably still. My bases will include other races to represent the other players armies I go up against, hence the ork.
Segmented back armour. Messy bit of greenstuff, but will dissapear once painted.
Good shot of the head flamers, fuel pipes and fuel tank thats built into the head. Sits nicely so that the head can fit as normal, will be posed anyways like in the pic to follow below.
C&C welcome, let me know what you think.

Thanks all,
Well after some chopping managed to get the legs re-posed and the bulk of the WL stuck together. In my fun of getting it built I totaly forgot to do the segmented armour that you see on the SS lower leg and stuck the sword hand on. Will see if can get what I want on the lower legs done but managed to break off the sword hand as it has to be magnetised. Also managed to do a take a mold of the scorpion off the chest plate on Karandras.
I'm still undecided about putting the..(well I don't actulay know what they are called) but the things on the back. Probably will, what you all think yes/no/maybe??
Also acomplished one on the main things I wanted. Was to make sure it wasnt to much higher than the standard WL height, only slightly so happy with that.
Project on hold now for a while as have to get the tools for modeling in the magnets, plus more magnets. As got to magnitise 10 guns , 1 sword the two weapon mounts and the right hand. Joy.
C&C welcome as always.

I think he looks great, but my one complaint is that he looks like he's about to topple forward. If I were you, I would have his left arm bracing against the floor for some added support.
I love the idea of a Striking Scorpion Wraithlord, though. Scorpions are my favorite Aspect Warriors. Keep up the fantastic work!

I was going to make a joke about bog roll and such, but I've managed to restrain myself. The pose looks good but I will wait until the weapon is on to make any c&c other than that.
Kudos on the other dread as well very impressive. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry just realised I called it a dread, the other WL looks fab.
I must remember that the hobby has moved on from 2nd Ed lol.

Damn thought the bog roll was hidden, erm ..yes, its for ..well you see.....yeah its for drying the end of my..paint brushes. lol
And thanks, will probably be a week or so before I get the weapons done. I thought the other WL was kinda standard/boring. I havent even finished painting it from a paint scheme I had few years back. That one will soon be a Dire avenger themed WL.
No need for apologies, I call the WL a dread every now and then as well.

Please tell me that you are going to carry this aspect warrior WL theme to its conclusion, ie. one for every aspect, sweet mother I would love to see a Dark reaper WL next. Automatically Appended Next Post: oh and maybe not every aspect, thinking specifically Shining spears, bit tough to make a WL jetbike I'm guessing.

Cheers Lennysmash , and funny you should be so specific with the very aspect I am currently looking at doing. In the end I'm going to be very strict with my Eldar army I'm going to have 3 WL max. With my BT army I've got 14 LR, crazy!! as will never use them all, so currently making those into SW and BA raiders. Back to subject, the 3 WL's will be, this one SS, the other a Dire avenger possibly fire dragon, and the 3rd not yet bought will be dark reaper. Already started the bits search about a week and a half ago. But as said have to make sure I pick the right ones as after the 3rd I probably wont get anymore. Unless of course I win the lottery, then yeah expect an army of WL's.
Anyways, got the weapons and the right fist magnitised, and got to say really simple job, had to wait a bit to get more magnets. So update time.
Swap the sword out for right fist, add 2nd heavy weapon, and hey presto heavy weapons role.( btw I'm really chuffed as 1st time using magents).
Still to greenstuff the armour ridges on shins, shoulders and pelvic armour plate. Probably said already, forgot to do it in my haste to get the WL stuck together.DOH!
Oh, also waiting on 1mm thick plastruct tubes to arrive to get the dreads done.
C&C always welcome.

@Darth bob, thanks very much, I hope I don't feth it up with the greenstuff and dreads.
@ironhide, yup should do, they are tilting inwards a little as only held in place with blu-tack for now. Just until I get the dreads modeled, helps having them there when modeling so I know what room I got to work with. But can't have them to much out to the side as the star cannon actualy rests inbetween two of the spines on the left side, well the "catalyst injection flasks" stick inbetween them.
