Time for some Krieg

Since I've been lurking the Forum - and the Gallery - for quite some time now, I thought I might aswell register and share my Death Korps with you, now that I've finished the first batch.

Klick any of the pic to get to a bigger version in the gallery. Zoom in, the pics are big and the preview is sometimes a bit blurry.

--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--

Let's begin with the HQ:

And the commanding officer:

--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--

Here he is in front of the current army:

About 600 points. HQ with 2 Platoons with 2 Squads each. More to follow.

--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--

Here's the latest squad I finished:

--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--

And here are some details:

Selfmade barbed wire, a.k.a. "Nurgle's Rope":

Selfmade gun strap (Thinking about adding this to every Korpsmen):

Selfmade antennas:

Mud, mud and mud:

--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--

Bayonet-Charge!

Or more like exercise and drill ...

--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--

So, now I'm waiting for the next order to arrive. Meanwhile I'm made several meters of barbed wire and paint some details that I missed / fix some mistakes I spotted.

What remains to do?

Haven't yet decided what to paint on the coat of arms on the standards. At first I went with the "C" of the Command Squads. But I may fill these (the shoulder pads) and make my own symbol.

So, that's it for now. Any questions?

Thanks for watching and thanks for voting in the gallery - if you like them.

Fantastic models! How did you make the wire? The white on the commander really makes him stand out in a crowd.

Very VERY nice sir!

Could you please tell me how you did that fantastic mud basing, as in the textures and paint scheme you used?

Thanks, guys.

Yeah, love the mud. At first it was a little hard to cover them in mud because they look good without the mud, too. And I was worried to overdo it. But I will try to do one or two squads with more mud. Engineers and Grenadiers are really going to get dirty!

The mud doesn't cover bad painting.

The last 5 guys got a little more mud:

Commander Cain wrote:How did you make the wire?

It's basically like this. But I'll try to make a tutorial and put it on the tutorial-board.

Leigen_Zero wrote:Could you please tell me how you did that fantastic mud basing, as in the textures and paint scheme you used?

Mud receipt:

- Wood glue, a few drops of water, fine sand, and ... drumroll ... saw dust.
- mix it and cover the base with it
- wait fot the mud to dry, then paint it Bestial Brown. At this stage it'll look really ugly.
- Wash with Devlan Mud, maybe some Badab Black in deeper areas.
- The Edge of the base is painted Scorched Brown and washed with Badab Black

I love the fact that you are really bringing out the dirty feel in trench warfare with these guys. Minor critiques though: Try doing some Badab Black washes thinned down as it will add much more depth to the models. Atm they look as if they were dry brushed and even if they were this will give a much better feel and take out the monotone style to them. Also try doing a lighter color to the eyes as this will set it apart nicely and allow them to stand out more.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Really like the dark green colour scheme and mud. I agree with Commander Cain your HQ looks great with the white detailing making him pop. Looking forward to seeing the Engineers (some of my fav models - the revolver barrels on the shotguns genius) and Grenadiers.

Well, the green is Catachan Green, washed with Badab Black, lightly brushed with Camo Green.
The leather is Bestial Brown, washed with Badab Black, basically everything is washed Badab Black.
Only the mud on the ground is washed Devlan Mud. The mud on the coat is not washed.

But I'll think about your suggestions and how I can try this. Thx

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to paint these, as I've an awesome idea for a display for the Engineers with their Hades Breaching Drill in a tunnel. Don't ask, I won't tell you anymore about this idea. Wait for it.

joker8911 wrote:Very good are you German or Brit army?

German army, but not active anymore. Still reserve.

Vet Sgt Ezekiel wrote:

Except for the Centaurs and the Hades, not in the near future. BUT ... yeah, I def. need one, two or three Macharius!
And I'm working on a Russ pattern based on a Chimera with Russ turret and Macharius-like track cover and boxes behind the tracks.
It's quite a challenge, though. And it's not a primary goal since I'm looking for a Siege Army with lots and lots of infantry - and of course heavy artillery!
So when I have enough of the infantry, artillery is next, then tanks.

Oh ... and I need a Gorgon ...

And while we are daydreaming ... I see Titans in the distand future.

Sweet Jesus Christwagons. You do some FANTASTIC work with the Death Korps... I think you've singlehandedly shown me why people think they are the most badass IG regiment and inspired me to someday match your painting skill.

If your gaming skills are half of your painting skills I see tournament victories in your future.
