As I'm beginning to make my BA list more competitive, I decided to add a squad of Sternguard with Combi-Meltas to the army. I stripped down the Sternguard and created these Combi-Meltas using regular Boltguns and Death Company Infernus Pistols.



What do you guys think?

Rock n Roll man, what made you want to put it on top and not the botton.. Sort of like the M-16's with the grenade launcher on the bottom?

I like, looks more feasable than the GW ones too.
Actually looks like a one shot melta now.

And can get any argument for WYSIWYG either.

Trouble is that those infernus pistols are rocking horse manure...

I like it, good use for the pistols. I've been making some combi-meltas cutting the bottoms off of regular meltaguns and attaching a cut-down bolter to the bottom.

I might suggest cutting off the sight rail on the infernus pistol though, just to streamline it a bit.

Thanks guys, I've made a full squad of them, including one armed with a more compact Multi-Melta. Once I have it painted to a decent standard I'll post photos of that too.

@angrypanda83: I theorised with attaching them to the bottom, but the barrel of the Infernus was too high compared to the handgrip in order for the parts to fit flush.

@MegaDave: Hmm, I suppose I could remove the sight from the Infernus. That would look better than having a chunky bit on top.

A guy at my local GW store decided to use some old hand flamer models he had to run as a combi weapon. He just hung the pistol off the waist and called it the combi flamer. The hand flamer would just be a one shot pistol and drop. You could do the same thing here with the infernus pistols

I think they look better as one combined weapon, but it's a good idea nonetheless.

I've thought about using them on my sternguard conversions as well. Already get a decent conversion using the old hand flamers and any plasma pistols I can find, so it's nice to know that they look decent before buying the necessary bits. Thanks!

I like it. My only problem is I don't want to cut up 30 Infernus Pistols to do it. I'll most likely use this http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Cheap%20combi-meltas but if I ever get some spare Infernus Pistols I'll probably do this my sergeants, it dose look realy cool.

That method looks really effective but it also looks horrendously fiddly. I simply had to cut two weapons while that one requires 3 different weapons and other parts used in jewellery.

Yeah it is a bit fiddly & honestly I wouldn't bother with the storm bolter drum.
The main reason I'm planing to use that conversion is I can afford it, the day I can afford 30 or so Infernus Pistols I'll use your conversion, like I said yours is pretty cool, Just more money then I have right now. By the way howed you make the multi-melta?

The Multi-Melta I made a few weeks back when I was bored, it was sitting on my desk waiting to be used. I used the Combi-Melta from the Commander's box, and I removed the Boltgun barrel and clip. I added a Meltagun barrel from the Obliterator kit, and created the backpack canisters using a couple of little parts from the Eldar Heavy Weapon sprue.

That sounds doable, I'll have to see what bits I have at the moment (I'm short a multi-melta for my 3rd sternguard)

I use old 2nd ed auto pistols and mount them under the bolt gun barrel. I agree that or your method look much more like one-shot meltas than GW's combi-weapons.
