I came up with this list with my buddy and was wondering if it was doable and what you guys thought about it.

Using pCaine's tier 1 and 2 bonuses: Arcane tempest gun mage units become FA U and cost 1 point less. Tier 2 adds an arcane tempest gun mage UA for free if you have 2 arcane tempest gun mage units.

PCaine - +6 wj

Arcane Tempest Gun mage unit - 5 (6-1 from tier)
tempest gun mage officer - free
-Defender - 9
Arlan Strangeways - 2
Arcane Tempest Gun mage unit - 5 (6-1 from tier)

Temepest gun mage unit with UA would marshal the defender, giving it snipe each turn and boosting hit or dmg.
Strangeways would give the defender focus and repair each turn allowing it to boost hit and dmg every turn with a rng of 20in.
Gun mages would focus on knocking out infantry and pushing back heavy targets. Caine would do what Caine does, save most of his focus for himself and gun down everything with a combination of rng 16 pwr 12 pistol shots and thunderstrike any heavies that get too close. He would pop feat as soon as he can get most if not all of the enemy army in his ctrl area.

It seems that the army cant be approached by melee units at all. The defender would be the only really hard hitting model in the army, aside from caine's thunder strike. There is a definite weakness to long range aoe attacks, but they can be taken out quickly by caine's rediculous threat range of 23in.

71 pts khador - 6 war casters
41 pts merc highborn - 3 warcasters

The warjack points need to be spent on the warcaster's battlegroup, so the defender cannot be marshalled in this case. As a consequence Strangewayes can only give it focus or repair it.

Another thing wrong with this is that you cant have Strangewayes in your army. He isnt part of the tier list. I could be mistaken cause i dont have the book on hand, but im pretty sure you cant.

alll very right. On to my next question. Caine's tier 1 reduces the point cost of arcane temepest gun mage units by 1, does this include solos? I was thinking it includes everything with "Arcane Tempest Gun Mage" as the unit type. If it does include the ATGM solo then how about this list:

pCaine - +7
-Defender - 9

ATGM - 5
ATGM - 5
UA - free

ATGM Captain - 2 (3-1)

That is disappointing about the jack marshalling. It would have been so nice to marshal that defender with the ATGM

Looking at all the lists for Caine floating around, none of them apply the -1 to solos.

I think that fact that its says units specifically, a couple of other themed lists say "units and solos" would mean it doesn't apply.

Just my reading of it though.

When reading PP rules, they have to be read literally.
So, when it says that the ATGM are a point less, it only means the ATGM's as in the 6 model unit.

On a side note, I would suggest dropping the ATGM Captain and getting a second UA for the other ATGM squad.

I suggest dropping the solo and taking a 2nd UA for the other squad..


The mage solo is pretty meh compared to letting you other squad see through stealth.

Might I suggest this for a list?

Lieutenant Allister Caine
Hunter
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer
Sentinel
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)

Its only 14 points. I figure you can cast Blur on the two units and upkeep it. Have the Sentinel Shield Guard shots that get through on the Officer.
Have the Hunter camp in some rough ground and upkeep Snipe on him. After your first turn you should have 3 Focus for anything else (like Teleport in case you need to make a quick escape).
Its very range heavy but not totally unreal. Just have to keep a lookout and support each group when needed.

If you want to run that as a tier, you're better off running that as epic Caine and not pCaine. pCaine can still take heavies. eCaine can't.

eCaine's tiers dont grant you free UA and less point cost for ATGM though. In fact, I dont find his epic tier bonuses to be very good at all.

I really do like that list Slav, although I would rather drop the sentinel because the gun mage officer's ability to grant the jack it's special abilities only applies to a normal ranged attack, thus I do not believe the sentinel would benefit from it with it's strafe special attack. I was interested in the grenadier though. AOE pushback and possible knockdown would be nice. I was also thinking the charger, but I dont know if you can grant him his second shot with jack marshal?

I only say the Sentinel cause of the points available. Also it leads into the next tier up in which you need a total of 3 or more of a Charger, Sentinel, Hunter, Grenadier, Defender, Stormclad, Hammersmith, Cyclone, Firefly, or Lancer.
