Ok to make it simple my Tau Army is nowhere near finished but already I want to start using Tyranids(The models just look so damn awesome!)

Anyway onto the main point!

I am having tough time choosing a colour scheme. I do have a rough idea so lets see how it fairs.

Primer Colour - White

Flesh-like Areas - Bleached bone

Now here is where the difficult part appears. I dont just want bleached bone as a base coat so I decided to use a wash over it, but am undecided on what wash. I will not be using Badab Black or Devlan Mub however.

Carapace - Not sure whether to make the contrast with the flesh parts or compliment them. (Yes I know a little about colour theory due to Graphic Communications I studied at school).

I do have a few ideas in mind so here they are:

Scheme 1: Wash - Asurmen Blue. Carapace - Compliment Colour: Purple/Green, Contrast: Yellow/Orange

Scheme 2: Wash - Thraka Green. Carapace - Compliment Colour:Yellow/Blue, Contrast: Red/Orange

Scheme 3: Wash - Baal Red. Carapace - Compliment Colour: Orange/Purple, Contrast: Green/Blue

Scheme 4: Wash - Leviathan Purple. Carapace - Compliment Colour - Blue/Red, Contrast: Yellow/Orange


I will most likely get the box of 5 models for £5 and the required washes/paints and do some test models. Just looking for input from other Dakka members first though!

Hmmm, looks like a pretty solid list of ideas to me, I think I personally like the idea of using say:

Baal red with purple and green/blue

The cool colors on the carapace with the hot color for the flesh areas would really make them stand out nicely I think.

Scheme 1 will look a bit like this.....

What about Ogryn Flesh, that would give you a bleached boney look over white primer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqOowCEJNew a nice tut, which uses the method.

Im using the bleached bone as more of a basecoat as im not sure how a wash over a wash would react, probly just the same as normal.

The reason for the soon to be test models(I hope, whenever GW manage to stock them) is clearly to abolish any of the doubt i have with the colours.




Take the above pic for example,

Obviously the white is going to be bleached bone with the appropriate wash.

The carapace however im goin to do a tad different (Only for testing purposes though, unless i like the look) I am goin to alternate the 4 colours to see what looks best

E.G For scheme 1, 1 part of the carapace will be purple, next part will be green, next part will be yellow and the last part will be orange.

I will not replicate that scheme fully if i like the idea, a max of 2 colours will be used IF they look good with the bleached bone and the wash.

E.g Flesh - Bleached Bone with Asrumen Blue wash with carapace alternating with purple and yellow.

Just an idea so we shall see when i get the models and paints.
