thanks, guys...

here are the last WIP pics of these two tanks...
they just need a couple of finishing touches tonight, and then they will be ready to go in the mail...
the Rhino needs the lettering detailed a little more, and then i will distress the scroll...
the Predator needs to be glued together (which is why one sponson is sagging...doh!!!), and have a bit more weathering...
in the end, i think the blue and red has turned out alright...

thanks for looking...
i hope you like them...

cheers

Tanks are coming along quite nicely.
I like the contrast between the two. It's obvious that the Rhino has been in the thick of it for some time. While in comparison the Predator looks like it's been sitting back taking down anything that comes near it and as such is comparatively unscathed.

Plus the free hand on the Rhino scroll is just gorgeous.

really nice weathering on them. Sponged?

@Snrub: cheers, mate
the scroll has had a bit more work one on it, and looks even better now that it is done...
both tanks are finished now, and i'll be showing them off tomorrow...

@Januine: glad you like the weathering...
this job is only for tabletop quality, so this is just a quick sponge of metal to show chipped paint...
normally, i would prefer to do more 3-D dings and scratches...

it is Throwback Thursday!!!
this time i have Vulkan He'stan, the Forgefather of the Salamanders Space Marine Chapter...
this is another Gamer's Series model, from 2009, where i recreate the 'Eavy Metal studio's paintjobs using P3 paints...

green is my favorite color, so i had a lot of fun painting this guy...
the subtle green scales on the armor were the best bit to play with...

thanks, P
even though i am not a huge fan of the sculpt, i had a ton of fun painting it...

here is the first look at the final version of the last two tanks in this phase of the Ultramarines commission...
my client wanted something a bit different from the previous vehicles i painted for this army, so the Predator has been painted in the 3rd Company scheme, since they fight alongside the Tyranid Hunters veterans...
the lighter blue, and strong red, will stand out from the rest of the vehicles...
instead of going with pure P3 Exile Blue, i went with a 1-1 mix of EB and P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight, and a final line-highlight of pure CBH...

going with the Rhino as Cassius' personal ride has given it a nice menacing look in that black...
adding the Tyranid shoulder plates was a fun touch, and getting to paint bigger lettering was a refreshing change...
the larger than normal surface to paint letters onto gave me a chance to go more Gothic with my font...

thanks for looking...
i hope you like them...

cheers

thanks, bud...

here are the final pics of Cassius' Rhino...
this tank was a nice change from all of the blue i have been painting for the last few months...
black is usually pretty unforgiving, but the style i have chosen to paint this in makes for a quick, good looking tabletop paintjob...
now i just need to paint up Cassius himself to ride in it...

i'm still here, lliu...
thanks for checking in...

after a week off to pack up, move to L.A., and unpack again (since my passport was expiring yesterday), i am back to work...

here are the final pics of the Predator that i painted for the Strike Force Cassius Ultramarines army commission...
the client wanted something a bit different from the Tyranid Hunter Veteran tanks that i had painted...
i went with the 3rd Company, since they are known to fight alongside the Veterans...
the color placement is different, but it sticks to the client's brief of dark blue, black, red, and bronze...

Caught the title and it of course made me check out the thread. Really nice work man, very clean technically proficient style. It seems to me that you spend a lot of time working on your craft so I applaud you and will be keeping an eye on this thread. Please keep painting like you've got a pair your work is fantastic.

thanks, guys...

i totally forgot Throwback Thursday the last couple of weeks, since my schedule has been all out-of-whack with the packing, and the move...
i'll get back to that next week...

until then, here is my next piece in the Ultramarines commission...
Chief Librarian Tigurius, the ugliest Librarian sculpt ever...

i have to say, now that i have started working with it, i hate Finecast...
now i know that i was right to steer well clear of this material before...
it is full of holes, warped, and rubbery...
i'll stick with plastic, metal, and proper resin for my own collection...

cheers

Jah, best of luck. I don't have a tenth of your experience with miniature painting, but I can say I hate finecast with a passion: The only 2 I tried painting it didn't even felt "right" when compared to plastic or metal. I've only painted one FW miniature so far and yet their resin felt different from finecast too. Finecast is really a strange material of poor quality.

Well, the miniature is ugly as hell but with your magic I'm sure it will look great. You have a great power!

Whot? The finecast are pretty good when it comesto me. 13 finecast, not a single miscast. It feels different because it's some weird resin thing.

Thank you.

@TheDraconicLord: i am trying to polish this turd...

@lliu: i am not a fan of Finecast...
even the best cast i have, that is not full of holes, is still rubbery and warped...
i'll work on it for commissions, but i won't be buying any Finecast models for myself...

here are the first two stages of Tigurius...
i started with lighter basecoats than usual, trying to figure out what i wanted to do with this guy...
afterwards, i gave it all a heavy wash of Vallejo Smoke, which pretty much made the light basecoats pointless...
this just goes to show that i should stop trying to switch up my painting style, and just go from light to dark, as i like to do...

here i have cleaned up the blue armor, laid down the red, retouched the scrolls, and given the tabard a nice solid base for the yellow...

thanks for looking...
hopefully he will look cool in the end...

cheers

@lliu: if you are happy with Finecast, that's cool...
i can't stand the stuff, and not a damn thing will change that...

Throwback Thursday returns, after a brief intermission...
this week i have my second display piece...
it is not often that i get a chance to use a resin display plinth, but i really like what it adds to a mini...
this model, Tyrant Xerxis from Privateer Press, painted in 2011, is one of my favorite Hordes Warlocks...
those big maces, and samurai style armor, are just so cool...
it was a good opportunity to work on my reds, too...
i feel like i am finally getting the hang of this color...

No matter what ground or medium, red is all about the contrast. You've got it man, that guy is brutal and looks great. The sand colored base and just enough black lines to make that red really dense looking. Good job he's really cool.

If anyone can do justice to that sculpt you can. Seems such a shame that they released that sculpt, the older 2nd Edition one just seems so much better by comparison.

pics of him coming in a day or two...

That miniature is a spawn of hell itself, brother to a certain SoB's model.

The painting looks very good so far, like "Mr. Snrub" says, that yellow is looking damn good.
