Yes, none of us can make people do parts of the hobby they don't enjoy.

However, we have to realize that this isn't a hobby enjoyed in a vacuum, atleast usually. When you put models down on the table to play a game, you usually spend just as much time looking at your opponents models as you do your own. For those of us who really like the painting and fluff aspects of the hobby, seeing armies on the table that actually look like armies and not like grey paste-men is a big deal. It does alot for the immersion into these grimdark worlds if both armies actually look like they are real participants. By that logic, you could make the argument that people that refuse to paint their armies are hurting other people's hobby experience just as much as we would be by demanding another player to paint all their stuff. It sucks when you get all your guys painted, get them on a table to battle in a dark fantasy or sci fi setting, and then see that they aren't actually fighting other people from that setting, but rather grey blob men. You put in the work in the hopes that you better the experience of your opponent. It isn't ridiculous to expect the same.

I paint my minis because I like to not to insure someone elses fun. If you like my paint job then thats great. If not then I don't care. At the end of the day the only one who can control your happiness is you. The idea that it is my opponents job to make me feel warm and fuzzy while we're playing a battle game just blows my mind. I also think it is absurd to try to force someone to paint their minis because it "ruins" your fun. Everyone should take personal responsibility for themselves, put their big boy paints on, and stop being so sensitive.

I like how models look when painted. But I really don't enjoy painting anymore. And I'm unwilling to send them out to a service for painting.

http://i.imgur.com/vz481VT.jpg This is the result of about 8-10 hours of effort just on the paint job. Probably significantly more on the building of the model itself. I spent at least two hours just picking out possible parts to use, only to significantly redesign it. It's a custom conversion I did of my Master's roleplaying character.

So yeah, I can paint okay for wargaming if I put the effort in. I just don't like painting. I can't possibly use the "I don't have time." reason that some people get so upset over, because I have almost every hour of every day free. I can't honestly say that it's because I'd rather spend my time on video games, gaming, or forums, because even though that's true, there've been times when my Internet connection goes down for like 4-5 hours, and I still don't go paint, often I just lie down on the couch and wait for the Internet to come back on.

So here it is, plain and simple. I. Don't. Like. Painting.

And as for letting the person who can't accept that paint my miniatures for me? Hell no. I don't trust professional painters to get the job done right, why would I trust you?

It depends on the models. Vehicles aren't so bad to paint but infantry can be a pain. I love speed painting, though. I feel good when I can knock out a Tac squad in five hours without them looking like a mess.

I paint - not because I enjoy painting - but because I WILL NOT field an unpainted model on the table. It's one of those chores that HAS to be done in order for me to get to the fun bits.

I prefer playing against painted models. I realise that in tournament situations, I can't guarantee that I will get this chance - so I stopped playing tourneys for the most part.

I play in ONE to TWO tourneys a year - and one of those is purely for the beer (we have our own bar for that weekend) and the social gaming aspect.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

I really don't have a problem if the models are painted or not. I have played lots of games with a couple units not painted. I have even play a couple games with models that are nothing more then legs glued to their stands (only against good friends and my brother). I have 10 40k armies, all of them are at least 2000 points. I like to paint and I take my time painting, but I dont have a single army fully painted. I often jump back and forth between armies that I'm working on just so I can get a different color scheme in front of me.

Some people hate painting, some people have not been inspired enough to paint. I was inspired by someone that used to play at our FLGS. He had a beautifully painted Deathwing Dark Angels army. They had LOTS of detail and his Landraiders had free hand angels on them. He is color blind. He could'nt tell you what his army looked like, he only new the colors by name from his Dark Angels codex.

Seeing that army on the table inspired me to spend some time and paint my models and some day hope to paint as well as he does.
