Yeah, shame. I heard they used to let people pledge if they missed a kickstarter but I think those days are gone.

You can still add to your pledge after the fact! It's just that if you're not at The Gold Spot when it ends, you don't get the Gold Spot prices on models, and don't get the extra £10 for each £100 you pledged; that part is what matters at the end of the KS. Bronze pledgers can always add to their pledge value after the fact, but you don't get the Gold Spot bonuses, if that makes sense. A Gold Spot pledger who adds more after the fact also doesn't get that £10-for-£100 add-on after it ends, either.

Kraan rrp 13, maallolvor rrp 50, 0.8*65=52, unit of ten including alt hero=52, total 104. What am I missing? Tokens/ dice included again? (Even then a 15 gbp difference is substantial...)
Not complaining, justnot seeing the value in the particular bundle is all.

Yes, tokens and dice included, which I think equal £16.

Rob's already noted that you could do these hosts 'cheaper' using the GOLD SPOT level, but then the point I think is to show what a good starter force looks like.

Mierce's stuff can seem a bit murky from the outside looking in, what with all the strangely named humans and oddly named monsters.

This is to hopefully provide a bit of clarity on the game side of things.

Yeah, I understand. I wanted the gold spot prices particularly on encounter hosts however.

You can let the payment bounce for up to a week, so you are still good if you can squeeze in the cash 3 days after the KS ends.

Heh, yeah. Three sets of dice, two sets of Fomoraic and one set of Khthones tokens later, though...
I'll pass. Still, not a bad idea for players interested in starting with this KS

Yepp. KS will send you a mail about finalizing the payment once it bounce. So you'll even get reminded. So put in the amount you want, let it bounce, and then fix it within 7 days after the KS ends.

Make sure the payment bounces because of invalid payment details though, don't let the bank bounce it or they'll charge.

Ok, these hosts are getting pretty awesome. I might be getting several of them now. That abhorrent one covers several things I wanted. Well played Mierce, ending the campaign after I just worked 30 hours of overtime this weekend.

That Crawrdraig concept looks pretty similar to the one we've already got, but that's alright. We need more as it is!

I promised myself when I started getting serious about getting healthy and losing weight, I'd treat myself to a Crawrdraig when I had lost 40 pounds. The rate I'm going that will more than likely be next week.

I hit that magic number and I better see a new Brythoniaid stretch goal then! I'm coming for you Sleisig and Casineg!

Otherwise I'll be making myself an order.

...Or I'll possibly just do both.

Project Update #38: £110,000 - In III Judas, Demilegionary Incaendium
Posted by Mierce Miniatures ♥ Like
We've reached the awesome milestone of £100,000, and all thanks to you guys! Give yourselves a pat on the back!
Reaching £100,000 means that the Warriors of Dyngonwy are now unlocked and will be produced, so let's celebrate that with the next unit stretch goal, set at £110,000...

In III Judas (Incaendium III Judas) is the very first Demilegionary Unit for the Byzantii. Demilegionaries are half-man, half-demon, soldiers of the legions that have given their souls to Infernus and thus tread the path to demonhood. Most never make it that far, and even though demilegionaries are only half-demons, they gain strength and power that is unimaginable to ordinary humans.
Demilegionaries stand on 40mm bases and are around 40mm to the eye. They are Wild monstrous infantry and can be taken in units (called Incaendia) of 3-8.
Please note, Danny Cruz has not yet finished the art for three of the Demilegionaries (Judas, Terentius and Duilius), but once he has we'll update the graphic on the front page.

It's Mierceday!

Huzzah! We actually have an update for you today, that includes a WIP of another Wælwulf. It's just like old times here!

Æsc, Wælwulf Maneback

Benoît Cosse has been cracking on with the next Wælwulf and it's Æsc (pronounced "Ash") to get the treatment next. He's the unit's banner bearer, and whilst Benoît needs to get that mane bigger, he's certainly getting there!

As always, Benoît's photos simply don't do the Wælwulfas justice so here's a video:

We hope to have Æsc finished by early May and the rest of the unit complete by the end of that month.

Darklands: a World of War Fulfilment

We have awesome news for you all: barring a few stragglers (ordered during and after October) - and of course the Wælwulfas and the QuickStarter rules - shipment of remaining items from Darklands: a World of War orders is now complete!

Remaining Sculpts

In terms of remaining sculpt progress, here's an update:
• Benoît Cosse: he's sculpting the Wælwulfas and has just about finished the fourth miniature. We expect these to be done by the end of May, now, but again this could slip. We'll keep you informed, as always. We do apologise for this delay, but you must understand that Benoît Cosse is a busy man and sculpts for many other companies.

QuickStarter Rules, Muster Rules and Kindred Musters

There's a few other bits and pieces yet to be done of course, so here's how progress is looking on those fronts...

The latest version of the QuickStarter Rules - v10.5 - is the FINAL version before printing.

You can download them here: DARKLANDS QUICKSTARTER RULES v10.5

There are many minor changes from previous versions, so we would recommend - especially if you are familiar with those previous versions of the QuickStarter Rules - to have a good read through, and also please check out the Mierce Miniatures forum, in particular the "Darklands Rules Discussion" section and the "Observations from a first read" thread...

Printing the QuickStarter Rules

We have excellent news: the QuickStarter Rules are about ready for print and will be shipped off to our printers soon. We hope to have them by the end of April!

The new, updated Muster Rules are now available for download.

You can download them here: DARKLANDS MUSTER RULES v2.3

They include the most recent, updated rules regarding hosts, units and warriors as listed in the QuickStarter Rulebook. The Muster Rules will not be printed, please remember; they will, however, always be available for download and will always be living rules.

At some point I'll get around to putting links up on our website...!

A Kindred Muster, what we call an army list, gives you the blocks to build a host of a particualr kindred for Darklands. It includes all of the different unit types available to you as a general wishing to create an army, in the shape of warrior profiles.

The kindred musters given below now include all of the warriors unlocked by this project (as well as those from Darklands: First Edition and our current project, Darklands: First Edition II), so you can check exactly what you're getting for your money in game terms.

Bear in mind, however, that any new profiles are only partially playtested (if at all) - expect changes and feel free to give us feedback on the Mierce forums. Check them out for some awesome new warriors, however!
• ALBAINN MUSTER v1.6
•ANGELCYNN MUSTER v1.11
•BRYTHONIAID MUSTER v1.7
•BYZANTII MUSTER v1.2
•FOMORAIC MUSTER v1.9
•INFERNII MUSTER v1.1
•KHTHONES MUSTER v1.5
•NORSE MUSTER v1.6
•VRAS MUSTER v1.5
•YSIAN MUSTER v1.8
•SELL-SWORD MUSTER v1.4

Muster Links in bold include warriors from this project.

No doubt there'll be a few errors or typos - feel free to tell us about them!

Upon each profile is a handy pronunciation guide (based on the Wikipedia Pronunciation Respelling Key) under the warrior's title and, at the bottom of each profile, a suggestion on which miniature from our range to use as that warrior on the battlefield.

Five Days to Go!

It's been a whirlwind of a few weeks since our current Kickstarter project, Darklands: First Edition II, went live, and now - amazingly - there's ONLY FIVE DAYS TO GO!

The good news is, of course, that we're funded already; our initial goal of £20,000 was achieved very early on and the project now sits at just over £100,000. That means ALL THE INITIAL UNITS is completely unlocked and we're onto more units and beasts!

There's still plenty of opportunity to push the project further, though - and that's why we need YOU!

Darklands: First Edition II ends on Wednesday the 23rd of April (St George's Day, of course), which means you've still got nineteen days to get a pledge in!

What's it all about?

It's all about funding units! The point of Darklands: First Edition II is to create units for eight kindreds - Albainn, Angelcynn, Brythoniaid, Byzantii/Infernii, Fomoraic, Khthones, Norse and Ysians/Vras. Each unit includes a free, project exclusive miniature too!

It's not just the units, either - there's plenty of other stuff to go for, including beasts, commanders, more units eventually and even some accessories.

Here's what you can pledge for at the moment... this will change rapidly, so keep watching the project!

Feral Agathae, free with the Craven Fiends of Dis

Additionally, if you've gone for the "ALL THE UNITS" or "YOU'RE THEIR DESCENDANT", you get Uhtred on Horseback - sculpted by Patrick Masson from a concept by Stefan Kopinski - for free!

Watch out for more freebies as the project continues, too!

Great Value Rewards to Choose From

There's four different rewards to go for in Darklands: First Edition II, and each give you great value for your funding contribution:
•"I JUST WANT SOME COOL MINIATURES" bronze reward - for those who want a few single miniatures or other bits from the project, which will be purchased them at bronze cost.
•"THE GOLD SPOT" gold reward - this allows you to purchase items at gold cost. Additionally, if you go for this reward, you'll get some other extras... which we'll reveal when they're ready ;o)
•"ALL THE UNITS" gold reward - this enables you to purchase all of the units shown at the beginning, at an almost 40% discount from buying them individually, and any future purchases will be at gold cost. This is a fantastic deal, especially when you add in those freebies!
•The "YOU'RE THEIR DESCENDANT" gold reward mirrors the one from this project, and enables you to purchase stuff at gold cost.

There's plenty more to it than that, but that's a simple overview of what you can go for!

What's this "Bronze" and "Gold" malarkey?

Virtually every item shown on the project has a gold cost and a bronze cost in pounds sterling.

Each reward is either a "gold reward" or a "bronze reward".

Pledging for a bronze reward allows you to purchase items at bronze prices.

Pledging for a Gold reward allows you to purchase items at gold prices!

It's that simple!

(Although some items, particularly freebies, can only be purchased additionally at one cost for both gold and bronze rewards).

So what's the best deal?

Without a doubt, the "ALL THE UNITS" reward. For just £400, you get 49 miniatures (five from each unit, eight free project exclusives and Uhtred on Horseback) worth £785 when bought separately at RRP; that's almost 50% off! Not only that, but you'll get a £40 gold reward bonus with "ALL THE UNITS" - how amazing is that!

"THE GOLD SPOT" is a pretty good deal too. For just £100, you get a gold reward bonus of £10 (giving you £110 to spend) and you can pledge for miniatures at 20% off their UK RRP.

For your £100, for example, you could pledge for the Slaughterers for £80 (getting Enslaved Ágriosávra for free, too, worth £115 if purchased at RRP) and the Loyal Guard for £28 (getting Tonsured Caedoc for free, and worth £50 if purchased at RRP).

Thus, you're getting £165 worth of miniatures for pleding £100 - that's 40% off what they'd be at RRP!

There's plenty of deals to be had!

Added Benefits!

Not only do you get to fund fantastic new miniatures for the Darklands range, and up to 40% cheaper than they will be when eventually released, you also get loads more!

By backing Darklands: First Edition II, you also get
• £10 added to your pledge for every £100 you contribute - called the gold reward bonus. Thus, if you've pledged £1,000, you actually get £1,100 when you manage your pledge - effectively a 10% bonus! Note: this is ONLY given to backers that have chosen a gold reward.
•the chance to purchase the limited edition, project-exclusive sell-sword Uhtred on Horseback as well as other project exclusives, if you haven't got them free!
•the possibility to get your hands on further deals and offers as the project continues
•access to the special post-project Kickstarter category on our website, where you manage your pledge, but which also enables you to purchase miniatures from our existing range at 20% off UK RRP until the end of May
• access to items from the Darklands: First Edition project in that Kickstarter category on our website until the end of May - at that project's prices!

Now those are fantastic deals!

What are you Waiting For?

Head on over to Darklands: First Edition II and see what you can help to fund!

For the Miercenaries

After a very busy week thanks to Salute 2014 and the ongoing awesomeness of Darklands: First Edition II, it's nice to get back to normality somewhat with a lovely Friday update.

Today, fellow Miercenaries, we have some fantastic never-before-seen work in progress images, some photos from Salute 2014, project fulfilment news and more bumpf about our current project, Darklands: First Edition II!

Broga, Wereofor Thegn

The lovely Valentin Zak has been getting on with our were-boar, Broga, and the results are going to be spectacular... thanks in no small part to the concept by Christophe Madura of course!

It shouldn't be too long before Broga is done but of course he's a Wave 1 dude.

Daarkan, Tain of Baalor

Now what do we have here... well, it's Jacques-Alexandre Gillois latest masterpiece, Daarkan, sculpted from a concept by Stefan Kopinski!

Just look at the detail on that scarred face!

Daarkan is a Wave 1 sculpt and so he'll be shipped off in June.

Naraa, Tain of Baalor

Not only, but also... look at Naraa! Also sculpted by Jacques-Alexandre Gillois from a concept by Stefan Kopinski of course.

Like Daarkan, Naraa is a Wave 1 shipment...

Thoth, Anax of Ýdron

Olivier Nkweti has been working very hard on some of our most complicated miniatures, the Hydrar, and we think the results are, quite simply, stunning. Don't take our word for it, though: see for yourself with Thoth, digitally sculpted from a concept by Beth Hughes...

Ignore the size of the skulls and the Atalantes helm by the way, they're way too small, and will be fixed easily as he's digital. Thoth's monstrous infantry size, not monstrous beast!

Once again, Thoth is a Wave 1 dude.

Hanokh, Kentarch of Ýdron

These double-sculpts-at-a-time sculptors are, frankly, mad - but the results are clearly very impressive... check out Hanokh, our Hydrar Kentarch, sculpted by Olivier Nkweti from a concept by Beth Hughes!

Hanokh will ship with Thoth in Wave 1.

Ágriosávra, Sun Warrior

The amazing Roberto Chaudon has now completed work on Ágriosávra, our first Sávrar, and - as you can see - he looks bloody great... especially when you see the scale shot!

Roberto's started work on Eikovra, the next Sávrar, and it shouldn't be long before that's complete. All the Sávrar dudes will be Wave 1 shipments.

Birna, Dottir of Hrafnen

Fresh from his stunning work on Knútr and Rollo, Allan Carrasco has begun sculpting the next two Norse warchiefs, Birna and Víthar, from concepts by Danny Cruz. We think you'll agree that these are shaping up to be just as fantastic as those...

Birna is, of course, a Wave 1 shipment.

Víthar, Erilaz of Hrafnen

Who would win out of a fight between Víthar and Domnech, two shouty tramps who really should have a wash? You decide!

Again, Víthar will ship as part of Wave 1.

Darklands: First Edition Fulfilment

We have some awesome news! All Wave 0 orders have now been shipped, or will be shipped by the end of next week at the latest!

Remember, though, that whilst they might be shipped, it will still take a few days to get to you.

This, of course, means that we can bring our full attention to bear on casting Wave 1 orders...

Sculpts and Sculptors

Here's the big list of who's sculpting what and when for Darklands: First Edition! Please bear in mind that this list may change over time, so don't take it as set in stone until the first work in progress shots appear.
• Olivier Bouchet: Olivier Bouchet has taken on Thelliatiss, and she will be sculpted traditionally.
• Stéphane Cammosetto: Stéphane has begun work on Eadric on foot - although it's just an armature at the moment - and he will sculpt Eadric on horse after that. He has also now taken on Hrōr, so that he matches the Werwulfas unlocked as part of Darklands: First Edition II.
• Allan Carrasco: Birna and Víthar are in progress, and after that it's Knútr on Horse and Cnebba.
• Roberto Chaudon: Ágriosávra is now completed and he will be followed by Eikovra, Myrkranio, Mag ap Mag, Mälmord and finally Djiuzu, in that order.
• Daniel Cockersell: the Daddy of all monster sculptors, Dan is cracking on with Scecchus.
• Benoît Cosse: Benoît is still working on Darklands: a World of War miniatures and won't start Finnan, Praach and Baagath's Herd for a while yet.
• Thomas David: work on Timoth has begun, but we only have an armature so there's not a great deal to see.
• Pedro Fernández Ramos: He'll soon begin work on Mananaan on horse.
• Yannick Fusier: the awesome Bagseg is now finished, and hopefully Yannick will continue his work with us in the future... on the Oghurithne warriors!
• Jacques-Alexandre Gillois: work has begun on Daarkan and Naraa and he will sculpt both Equitus Durio on foot and Equitus Durio on horse afterward.
• Christian Hardy: Christian will begin work on Aldhelm (taken from Maxime Penaud), Velchior and Agathae soon.
• Tre Manor: Tre of Red Box Games fame will be taking time out for us to sculpt Erebius, which is now underway.
• Patrick Masson: It's Gaarwäg for Patrick next, which should start soon.
• Hector Moran: Work on the Dawn of Khthon, Gorgórar Unit is ongoing and after that he will be digitally sculpting Con I Modius, Legionary Contubernium.
• Stéphane NGuyen: Stéphane should begin work on Seza soon, but we're not sure when right now.
• Olivier Nkweti: He has about finished Hanokh and Thoth!
• Juan Navarro Pérez: Urien on foot is in progress, and Urien on horse, Carys, Caedoc and Ffion Ferddig will follow. He has also agreed to sculpt Tomas Johansson's Geat Warrior, Trytheorn, although he's not sure when that will occur.
• Stéphane Simon: thanks to his incredible speed, Gondard of Kareaz along with his Nithing, Ekk, is almost done; and after them he'll have Crom on horse, Xontór, the Holumenn Unit and the Gesíth Unit to do. Phew!
• Valentin Zak: Valentin has begun work on Broga and he should be finished fairly soon.
• Unknown: the remaining two descendants, which are Rick Boer's Frisian Warrior (due to be drawn by Stefan Kopinski) and Maximilian Schüte's Germanic Berserker.

Now that is a lot of sculpts...

Completed Sculpts

We thought this would be a good idea, as things are cracking on - a list of completed sculpts, in kindred order! Completed sculpts are in bold; in progress sculpts are in italics.
• ALBAINN: Dúngal on foot - Dúngal on horse - Ciniod - Itaina - Domnech - Bagseg
•ANGELCYNN: Eadric on foot - Eadric on horse - Timoth - Aldhelm - Hrōr - Leofwen on foot - Gesith Unit - Cnebba
•BRYTHONIAID: Urien on foot - Urien on horse - Carys - Caedoc - Ffion Ferddig - Angedern - Mag ap Mag
•BYZANTII: Equitus Durio on foot - Equitus Durio on horse - Erebius - Agathae - Velchior - Djiuzu - Con I Modius

The Darklands First Edition Rules

Now, before we get onto the next project, a word on the Darklands: First Edition hardback rulebook.

We've decided to put back the printing of the rulebook to November.

There's a number of good reasons for doing this, but the main reason is simply so that we can include extra stuff - and so increase the value of what you're getting!

This extra stuff will include whatever we need for the miniatures produced by the next Kickstarter project (such as muster summaries, or perhaps new rules to cover the abilities of new creatures where required), more background material, more colour artwork... whatever we can fit in really.

Please note, the printing delay will NOT affect the delivery of:
•miniatures slated for delivery in Wave 1
•miniatures tied to the book itself (such as Uhtred or Finnan)
•the rules themselves - we'll still give you the full rules in June as a PDF download, although perhaps not with as pretty pictures

We'll also ship the rulebook to you when it's available without tying it to a Wave - it's only fair to do so!

Now, we're aware a lot of you guys and gals out there were very keen to get your hands on the book when - let's face it - we said we'd deliver it; but we hope you understand that we simply want to make that book better for you.

The Darklands Concept Art Book

Similarly, we're going to delay the printing of the Darklands Concept Art book.

The main reason for this is very simple - we want to add as much art as we can to it, so we're going to include all the art seen in the next project. Again, we understand that you guys would want the book in June; but we just want to give you more for the same amount of money!

Update from KS 2:

Update #64

Apr 18 2014

You decide!

I think I was either doing it the same time Orlando was, or he edited his in!

Either way - go Darklands!

I'm in serious danger of catching Pokemon fever with all this stuff coming out for the new KS and the awesome WIP stuff.

Must...resist...

I'm having a Savrar to paint though, that little guy is all sorts of awesome.

Then, maybe I should get him some friends, I'm not playing Kthones, but maybe just enough for a 500pt muster....
