UPDATE!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/poots/kingdom-death-monster/posts/1126296

Hello.

Our print deadline to have all the expansion content 100% ready for delivery is the first week of march, which is when the factories in china resume working after their Chinese new year. Until that content loaded hard drive is handed off, our internal team is laser focused. The pledge manager is closed, we will not be putting up any resin sales and If you wrote me a message, I will get back to you after this push.

The Dragon King Armor kit is finished, as is the Gorm Armor kit. The Spider Silk armor kit needed a revision, as the legs join was too large and it didn't fit in any chest sockets. I am waiting on a package to confirm that was adjusted. (Should arrive this week). At this point, the spider silk armor kit is the last loose end. Everything else is finished, approved and production of it has been finished. (Or is closed to finished, its hard to know exactly without being there).

This project is massive.
The plastic side of it has totaled nearly 5 x 40' containers of injected sprue. Currently myself, the printing company and the plastic manufacturer are working out logistics and strategy to ensure the safe delivery from one factory to the other. Its not very far, but packing lists must be complete, checked and verified.

The storm of activity and details is getting much heavier as we approach the end. If things go smoothly we should be loading up cargo boats by may or june.

I am truly sorry I cannot be more communicative during this time.

Thank you ~

OK, now that is the sort of mini-update I've been dying for!

I love that KD:M has 5 containers of sprue, without all of the packaging. That is a little nuts. With the paper, we're probably growing to 7 or 8 containers worth of stuff. Maybe more.

If print starts early March, then it'll probably be May before all of the paper is proofed and printed. Then pack & ship & Customs, and it's possible KD:M might actually ship the first box by June 30.

Hope Adam gives adequate time for boards to dry. We do not want 5,000 sets of warped, curling boards a la Sedition Wars.

I doubt we'll need to worry about bent boards as long as he's made us wait for the rest of it to be up to his standards.

I set my shipping address to my parents' place because it's more static than my address. When this thing finally comes in, they're probably going to think I ordered them a new couch by the size of the packaging.

I am anticipating a box that should be smaller than a washing machine, but larger than a microwave.

Wonder where it's from. Couldn't be a KD mini, no genitals anywhere that I can see.

Must be really busy if they're basically gonna go black these next few months, not even releasing any resins.

I like that KD:M is moving into "crunch time" - it's gonna happen!

I'm hoping that because we're not hearing anything during the massive slowdown that is CNY, means that printing and coordinating of plastic/paper goods is going swimmingly.

Right?

Maybe. I think it's fairly telling something is up since there haven't been any new releases in the KD store this year.

Well, that's what he said in the last update: Crunchmode engaged, no more fething around with the store, all their time is now devoted to the KS full-time.

Right?

Not exactly.

According to Adam's last Update, KD is busy getting ready to print. Before KD:M can go to print (and delivery):
1. Adam & team need to finish the artwork, content and layout
2. They need to get proofs test printed for approval.
3. Adam & team need to approve print for production
4. Sample(s) need to be printed for approval
5. Adam & team need to approve final sample

There is a process, and step 1 won't finish until early March.

Figure the rest of March for the other steps, and initial print kicks off in April. As other items approve, they will add to the print queue.

I'm targeting Q3 delivery.

(the "free" expansion of the base game and other items to include additional cards, artwork, etc. isn't really helping the process)

I'm just hoping to have it in hand (or a shipping notice in my email), by the third anniversary of the KS / Xmas 2015 at the latest.

At this point, thinking you'll get it in Q3 2015 is starting to look...ambitious, but it wouldn't be shocking if it sneaks in to Q4.

I'll admit, this latest 'silence' from Adam isn't exactly encouraging, but hopefully everything is continuing to move forward...

Q3 for US may be realistic, I just hope RoW gets it before the busy tail end of the year clogs up the postal systems worldwide.

Mind, he did say he was in crunchmode and would be quiet for the time being.

Q3 ends Sep 30 - it's possible.

But if we all start saying that Nov 30 is OK, it'll be 2016 before we know it...

Q3, please.

In a van down by the river

I think the first packages will start going out in early Q3 (defined as "before the end of July"). I'm usually wrong about such things, but that's what I'm going with.

If they have the plastics done, that's the big job. If KD has their stuff done for printing to be underway quickly, then even with the astronomical amount of printing to do I'm not sure I see where their timeline to have it on the water to the US by May is unrealistic. Printing, even at a high quality/quantity, can be done at industrial speeds pretty well. They also have already done cards and the like for the game, so they have what process/materials they want to use down as well. They likely have some "set in stone" stuff already done, and this is the last little bits that needed further testing/refining before they could say "this item does X" where the text wasn't finalized yet. In other words, looking around you see where Adam has lined up a lot of the niggling details ahead of time, unlike some other KS projects which seem to think the critical path is the road where you get really big hits on monsters. It's still a crapton of work and still plenty that can go wrong (e.g. - machine breaks, card stock damaged, etc.), but outside of planning for Murphy I'm not seeing where there's signs that they're going to get blind-sided by something that could be accounted for.

Where their timeline becomes dicey is what is the cargo situation in the US going to be at that point, and how long is that and customs going to gum up the works? Then you have the real bugbear that's going to just nuke the time to backers; picking and shipping. I shudder to think about some of the orders that went in that dwarf even my own. 5400 highly individualized orders is going to be ugly. However, they have the month of May and June to work out how that process is going to look so maybe even that won't be awful.

Adam, unlike many project creators, does seem to have training in project management or at least an incredible affinity for it if not formally trained. That's one of the reasons I liked this project; yes, being Type A can be problematic where you're forever fiddling with the exact font but it also makes for someone who accounts for details long before those details become problems.

It is now the end of Feb. The deadline to get initial print completed and submitted is about a week from now.

I'll assume Adam is "heads down", as he said, and finalizing print.

Krinsath is correct that Adam has done print before, along with micro batch components (KDM cards in pinups), so he knows what things should look like. I hope he is still on track for the latest "July" estimate.

If he's not good come this time next week, I would hope that he'd be able to update in some fashion.

I'm just glad he stopped commenting in the comments section as it was pretty bad for a while there.
Although the new annoyance seems to be that he/project members are responding to some emails being sent in regards to the project. If they can respond to emails individually surely updating can't be hard.

The response to peoples questions/comments that he's given seem (certainly mine was) to be the sort of thing he can do on a phone (perhaps when in China) when he has a minute or two spare

He may not feel able to sit down at a PC to do a full update
(while some would be happy with a short note, others will get wound up it's not more informative and bombard him with emails/questions)

or possibly (since he knows IT) he may not want to log on to anything 'offical' while in Chinia with it's censorship/official spyware etc

While I'm more then willing to give him the benefit of the doubt it is important all those things are "MAYBE that's why he hasn't said anything"
The only information I know of is that there is a huge deadline (Fair enough) and tons of things that need to be done but that ALSO some personal emails from backers are being answer. (As stated in comments section on the Kickstarter)

Only reason I don't like the sort of argument made that he "Can't because x y z without conclusive backing" is because it sounds to much like gets brought up in kickstarters when a manager doesn't say anything and then people start giving the "I hope he's not dead/hurt spiel" Which just feels like a mockery of if someone were actually hurt.

I'd MUCH prefer radio silence on all ends if this project needs this much attention right now and not have to hear how some random people here and there are getting updated simply because they email.

(I completely understand responding to emails when it comes to any returns of products etc but not ones where the backer is trying find new information that should be in a update.)

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but Adam posted this in the comments today.

Micro-Update! All files for print, have been delivered to the printer! All plastic production is finished and in the hands of the printers. We are now moving into the printing and packing phase. This week, we are taking it a little easy here at the studio. It was MAX effort right up to the finish line and we are all pretty exhausted. Next update "soon".

Bolded emphasis is mine.

Hopefully we'll see some of that finished plastic soon.

Light at the end of the dark tunnel lined with faces and hands? Possibly.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Hmm, seems alright. Not setting my heart on anything earlier than Q3, though, just to avoid disappointment.

Nothing I enjoy more than scorching summer days, plastic melting on the sprue as I try to base coat it, being afeared of the rattle can exploding in-hand. Ah summer.
