A heat index is how hot it actually feels due to humidity, wind (or lack there of) and direct lighting. It's the opposite of a wind chill factor. The humidity has been around 100% the last few days. Grimdork is about an hour or two from me, he gets the weather right after we do.

Wikipedia-
The heat index (HI) or humiture or humidex (not to be confused with the Canadian humidex) is an index that combines air temperature and relative humidity in an attempt to determine the human-perceived equivalent temperature—how hot it would feel if the humidity were some other value. The result is also known as the "felt air temperature" or "apparent temperature". For example, when the temperature is 32 °C (90 °F) with very high humidity, the heat index can be about 41 °C (106 °F)

Basically it is so humid that your body cannot cool itself because your sweat cannot evaporate due to too much moisture in the air.

Thanks for the info. I have never heard of a heat index used before. Have heard of wind chill though.

That dragon is amazing. Is it meant to represent Tiamat?

I can imagine being worn down in this heat wave. The AC in my car has been out for a few years now so by the time I e made my 15 minute drive to work I'm not feeling like doing much.

Ouch... No AC no Bueno.

I saw Barzam say something about getting one of those new resin Nemesis cars for his panO and I got this idea that I'd like to get something like that for all of my... Huh, 4 infinity factions. Doesn't have to be a transport or vehicle, though Nomads having a drop ship makes sense. Shasvastii would be more along the line of spawn embryo and seed pod tokens, but maybe some gnarly biomechanical beasty like a modded tyranid or something...

Car or vehicle works for panO but there's other stuff. Qapu Kualqi could also use a drop ship or something related to space mercinary work.

Just a thought, have you guys got any bright ideas?

So I'm looking into using these project bricks to form the basis of the dungeon walls, at least for parts of my dungeon scenery that are dungeons... as opposed to caves. Man made (really big) brick/stone structures that is. Underground of course, or they wouldn't be dungeons.. Bah, rambling. Anyway, I'm trying to decide on 2 or 3 bricks high. The first is a little short, but gives you a bit of that 2.5D view angle/photo opportunity. The other option for 3 bricks is almost guaranteed to fit any regular 28mm type heroes, and even some pretty large monsters, though it does seem like space efficiency is important when building underground what with all of the digging and structural integrity stuff. From the five shots below, what do you guys think? 2 high or 3 high? Also I'll probably just cut things off to make flush door openings , rather than stacking them to the side like that. Trapdoor to come later once I've figured out how I want to build my buildings.

OR

What do you guys think? I'm eager to build some natural stone caverns as well but starting out with a more organized dungeon may be easier. Maybe build something semi-static on that 2x2' foam project panel (which I can't get anymore apparently... but its ok as it costs twice as much or better to buy them like that) and then allow trapdoor access to lower tunnels under the dungeon?

Personally, I would go wall-less for maximum flexibility, but if you're wedded to 3D, I would go for the 2 block walls for ease of access to the minis!

I will be watching this eagerly, whatever happens!

Interesting take. I'm not sure how much I'm really going to get to use this for RPGs so it's going to end up on my shelf and maybe for pictures and such... given that.. aesthetically pleasing is important. Think of it almost as fantasy skirmish terrain that could also be employed as RPG scenery.

Are you watching Adamsouza's blog? He's doing some pretty cool 2.5D stuff atm.

Great looking work on the Infinity figure!

As for the walls. I'd go with 2-high. Easier access to the figures not only physically but also with the eye or a camera lens.

Thanks!

Interesting, 2 votes here for 2 high, and on the loer thread 3 high is prevalent.

If I make it 2 high, it'll be harder to do tapestries and hanging prisoners/corpses. Otherwise 2 high is more economical.

I'm also not as sure of doing natural caves so short, May be a little hard.

I'm planning to build several similar structures on that 2x2 foam board, may or may not make the hallways modular, dressing in rooms will be modular for sure. Ideally there will be one or more stairs/trapdoors down, maybe even a legit drop trap or two as well. Anyway the board will theoretically float over the table on some kind of supports and underneath it would go the natural cave rooms and such.

I vote two high for the walls. But you could make your display walls modular so you can emphasize special rooms.

Everyone is making dungeons&dragon terrain or modular hallways, it's getting my mind stirring.

Yeah I may have had the idea before I saw Adamsouza doing it but he must have had the same inspiration cause the timing was close.

It's gonna be hard for me to resolve the shorter walls. We shall see.

You can always do specific walls higher when needed to show off a feature.

Hmm, that is also a thought. I think I'll start making a floor plan for the dungeon and we'll see what looks best en masse.

But hey hows about some pictures?

Not the strangest things I've ever painted... But probably somewhere close. Gonna gift these to my gaming buddy as I think he will appreciate them more than me. Still plan to dip and matte spray, probably add a bit of rust to the metals.

I vote 2 high.

As Azazelx said, you can 3 high in spots like doors or tapestries as needed.

Thanks for the plug BTW.

A note about economy. You can buy a big 1inch x 2ft x 8ft sheet of that pink insulation foam for about $10. Should be enough to make all the wall and floors sections you need for your diorammas, Then basically drawn on the bricks with a razor & ball point pen combo. You can even draw in archways and door frames, etc... It has to be cheaper than buying boxes of those precut bricks.

Yep I vote for 2 high for the most part, but use 3 high to accentuate specific rooms or when you want to add a higher feature halfway down a corridor. Will save you a stack of bricks, makes it much easier to handle the models moving around.

The models are looking fantastic. Those gorillas are definitely out there. Which is saying something since we are in a hobby of daemons and space elves.

I think if you're doing 3 high, you need to make it a bit wider than you otherwise would to facilitate moving stuff around, base overhangs, dramatic poses and so on.

It's doable, and would probably look really great, and if it's primarily for display might be the way to go. If it's for play, then it's probably better to have easier access.

Edit: I am gonna go check out Adam's blog too- I saw the posts about in the Roleplay section and I am totally going to watch all the videos and get way too enthusiastic about it as soon as I have some free time

Wait. There's a roleplay section? It seems kind of stupid that I didn't think that there would be one but... hadn't even considered it till this point May go check it out!

In reverse-ish order...

Januine: They're from Dust Tactics, got them on sale from Miniature Market. I'm not exactly sure what goes on with that game but I think it's basically alternate reality WWII with some higher tech walking tanks and the Germans, of course, get crazy stuff like trained/modified gorillas and even zombies.

The gorillas *are* bizarre, but I think they'll fit right in with some of the wonky gorilla stuff my gaming buddy already has.

Adamsouza: I know all about the insulation foam, although I think my local Lowes variant is a 4x8' sheet for $16 or so at an inch thick. Used to have the 1.5-2" stuff but I don't recall seeing it lately. I may well delve into working with that sooner than later, I've been meaning to get some for various things for a little while now (just gotta do it when I'm using the work truck, as it won't fit in my car and I don't wanna break it down only to realize I wanted a longer piece when I get to working with it..).

If I'm honest, it's actually kind of fun to build with the bricks, kind of like the retaining walls I do for work but in miniature. I'll probably wind up using the foam for the basis of the cavern stuff, and quite possibly for future dungeons... no reason they would use the same blocks in different dungeons, and even different kinds in the same dungeon would be plausible.

I could almost get away without dipping those gorillas but I'm gonna go ahead and do it, just gotta find the charger for my drill's batteries and get that sorted.

More later if I get half a chance!

I forgot you use the drill to "help" get excess dip off your models. But all I can think about is accidentally sneezing while doing that and the paint station looking like the front row of a Gallagher show.

I think the idea behind DUST was there was an alien race who's technology was found by different nations of the earth and that was reverse engineered to make the walking tanks, lasers and other stuff done to create the gorillas and zombies. That and the arms race leading to WWII created that world. I think they were talking of reintroducing the aliens at some point, but then stupid happened and now all is DUST.

Which just means Paolo will create a third?????company that has pinup girls, intelligent apes and power armored troops that draw heavily upon WWII. (AT-43 and DUST) being the other two that I'm aware of.

Ahhh that makes sense... I wondered how many people could really like Gorillas *that* much, if it comes from the same person then... sense.

I actually brush dipped the gorillas earlier. I may have even gotten the brush clean with mineral spirits... time will tell.

So talk about poor impulse control... I ordered the CA Ikadron Batroid + Imetron box from MM as it was only 8 bucks. Of course I decided to add the spitfire Noctifer to the order because reasons? So now I've got 4+2incoming shasvastii to build and paint in short order. Still planning to knock out the Custodier and Sin Eater soon too, quite possibly first as they're primed already.

I went ahead and sealed my bones knight/paladin after washing him with reaper black ink rather than dipping...to see if the dip was the likely culprit or if it was, perhaps, the krylon sealer. If I can keep using the Krylon after traditional washes, then so be it, I can survive w/o dipping them.

I also sprayed my second reaper shipping container a nice Ruddy Brown (Krylon, of course), and then foolishly sprayed a short logo onto it with a stencil. Should have waited till I got my airbrush set up again.. it looks bad. I'm just gonna blame underpaid/lazy dock workers though. It's dry already, through the magic of Krylon, but it's probably still stinky. I plan to add rust to the metal on the gorillas later if the minwax has sufficiently cured. If the container is agreeable by then, I'll rust it up as well.

I'm pretty sure my 365/365 goal is dead... I haven't even been keeping track of the model count the last couple of months. I think I was around maybe.. 84 or something? At some point, and then I did Imperial assault with 36 so I should be at least 120 done. I've done several models since then, or well a few. Zero, paladin, 3 gorillas, add in that shipping container after today... Still definitely no more than 130 models at a point in the year where I should have 210 done. Right? 7x30 ish? Yeah close to that, adding a few extra for longer months.

Sooo.. at least 80 models behind and already a couple of days into August. It'll be neat to see where I get, but I'm not so sure I can can pull out of that nose dive Maybe if I could put out nearly a hundred zombicide zombies like Theo in a couple of weeks... Or come near to Paradigm's speed

Don't seem to have any swarms of things that I want to paint at the moment, and doing Infinity singles will not meet the goal by deadline (but I'll be pleased as punch to get them done, don't you doubt!).

Whew... Was chasing around the yard with the little one, we had the aqua sabers out and though she's not quite adept with their usage... Still had to find some dry clothes afterwards..way cooler than water guns. As I was juking around trees and doing defensive rolls I'm kind of exhausted so I'm here posting a photo of this almost-finished warlock instead of finishing him. Just gotta touch up the gold and dip, I think. He's got s story but more on that later.
