Hello dudes. As I've said, a friend of mine and I made a very big BFG match between X-mas and New Year. It was about 10.000 Points each side between Chaos and Empire. We startet at the 23 of Dec. at 10 AM and played until 6 PM, (with a 1-2 houre break) and continued at the 28 of Dec. from 10 AM to 5 PM (with a 1-2 houre break) I made a coupple of photos, and put them together in a powerpoint presentation. As soon "my opponent" gave his "ok" to it, Im goint to upload it to youtube.

Hey,
all those ships look impressive.

But the table is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small.

I imagine not a lot of tactical thinking was involved.... But the number of dice/.... buckets!!

In fact there was very much tactical thinking involved. Only because of the huge number of ships. Where to use youre rerolls for example, you can imagine, 4 Rerolls is not much to spend when youve got a fleet as big as that. The Table was 1,5 M x 2,2 m We felt that was enought becuase as we know from futher games (4-6K each side) youre gonna put youre ships close to eachother anyway. And in such a big game, there is in some case even more tacital involved, becuase other then in small games it happenes very often, you get port and starbord weapons to use in the very same turn. And you very often got much more targets "muuuuch" more. And you have to decide which ship to use first becuase you got so many targets infact. What I do agree with, is, there was not much tactic for the escorts. In such a big game they are little more then "Shields" and so they all got whiped out very early. You should try a game of that size somewhen You'll see how much tactical is involved in it hehe

Honestly I realy love big games. So bigger they are, so better. This was one of the games (if not "the Game") I enjoyed the most.

I did a 4,500 point game once and it was quite, QUITE the blast! I do wish I could go larger sometime. You're right, there are actually LOTS of tactics involved with it. Sure you could just send your fleet in full-bore and start rolling dice, but to perform a maneouver with an entire portion of your fleet and come at the enemy from an unexpected quarter, or have a reserve that's crossing the T as the enemy comes through your line, it's really amazing to see!

At first thanks for the nice comments, very kind !

And I used 5 Novas wich were extremely efficient. Even when you miss, you've got good chance to hit something. And I rolled much more hits then misses with the scatter !

In our game, I had 4 and equipped one with the warp shell. First shot dropped the Planetkiller's shields, second scored a critical which took out the bridge, where Abaddon was commanding. Third shot was the warp shell, and with the naturally rolled leadership of the ship being a 7 before Abaddon took over, it was bye-bye big PK first turn of the game! He fought back fiercely. A squadron of four Slaughters raced up the side, then turned sideways before I reached him. He slowly proceeded to advance down the line, killing all of my flank-guarding escorts and a few ships of the line before my own advancing line crossed the T of that little flotilla and blew it out of the stars. It was mayhem after that!

Special orders... did you play them as normal? I would hate to see that entire fleet (either side) get screwed because of a bad Ld. roll on the first one.....

No kidding...when you are trying to reload a dozen carriers, botching the first one is a major moment!

Possible subdivision into smaller 'battlegroups' in the fleet would be a solution to this.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Having never played BFG, that table does look a bit too small and bare

However, it looks fun even so.

That is possibly too small in the same way most apocalypse tables are for 40k, which is to say, still a heap of fun I would imagine.

As to bare, not really, BFG has very very little in the way of terrain and isn't geared around it really, other than some specific missions.

I prefer a clear table myself.

As an IN player, so do I. Nothing like clear LOS for my nova cannons .

Yuck!!!

Celestial Phenomena is an essential cool factor in BFG. Every battle must have celestial phenomena!! I cannot understand someone preferring a clear table...

I guess it's my sense of 'realism' and the fact that there's really very little celestial phenomena:empty space.

That's true, although I find BFG much more enjoyable when I try not to think about realism too much

I tend to prefer having at least a little terrain on the table, to force me to do a little additional thinking if nothing else. Plus, as I mentioned above, it makes things a bit more sporting for my opponent when he has something to hide behind when I'm bombarding his fleet with NCs! Plus, Eldar fleets are pretty much toast without any terrain.

Hi,
can I post this video at other forums (Specialist Games)?

Also: the table is to small. There was no manoeuvring at all!

It also made Nova Cannons stronger then usual, Chaos should've spread out more.

Sure you can, but tell me when and where you have posted it, because (of couse) I would like to see the reaction to this.
What made Nova Cannons strong that game, was my outstanding luck with the scatter die. And inded there were plenty things the Chaosplayer should have done. Covering the middle with his escorts for example. But next time (not to soon) well take a little bigger Table, but also !!!! A bigger Game ! Maybe 12.000-15.000 each side. so we still can select what ships we want and not just take everything we (I) got.
