I felt that this was an OUTSTANDING read, having been out of the gaming world for a decade! One of my most memorable tournaments (and the last one I ever played) took place in our local comic shop's basement, and although it was spacious, the majority of the participants were very, very unhygienic. I even noted this fact in the "GW" post game write up. I agree that it was incredibly rude but the kicker was later on I overheard that this was an "offensive" tactic on their part. I finished 3rd overall and took “Best Sportsmanship”. Needless to say, I never participated in another tournament at that gaming store after that (I was physically ill from the experience!). I spoke to the owner privately about it... apparently there were others that felt the same way I did. But the mighty $$ prevailed as said "offenders" were big time spenders in his establishment and he didn’t want to lose his best customers. My response was as professional as I could manage (the pub down the street got the majority of my time and money)… the outcome was I concentrated on my university work and completed my Masters with a 4.0 GPA! Then I joined the Army and did the “real” thing. Not that I would have happily continued to keep playing, but it literally left a bad smell on the whole experience! I am now reloacted to another state and luckily the gamers there are darn good people and very professional!
