Hi Guys (and girls)
So ive finally done it, got off my arse and started painting.

After beating myself up between carcharodons and imperial fists, i finally decided on the fists.

I did a test mini for both, and although the yellows harder, its more fun to paint than grey!

Heres one of the Test imperial fists i did, hes since been stripped as i want to use a slightly lighter yellow tone, but the method of painting etc will still be the same.

I painted it by priming chaos black, painting the armour tausept ochre then highlighting with Bleached bone, i then used yellow ink glazes to give it a yellower tone.

Next time i will base coat the armour with the tausept but then layer on vomit brown before my other stages to brighten things up a bit!

Anyway, heres the first 5 tactical members after their Dettol baths!

Not much to see there i'm afraid! Sorry.
I then found this old chesnut in my cupboard

which is now in this state ready for priming the same time as the tactical guys.

Its surprising how much i now like the old rhino after i usd to hate it so much! is that because its different??

Anyway, more updates to come soon!

That test Fist you've got there looked great. Brighter would probably be better though. Eager to see it.

I have some old models that I used to dislike, but now I love. Personally, I think it's because as they get older they become kinda retro which is neat.

I thankyou, and yes retro is cool!

Good evening all.
Not much to report tonight. done a first coat on the razorback and got the tactical marines reprimed.

gonna get the Rb finished before i hit the marines up.

Heres the evidence.

hopefully get the RB done in a week or two, the tacticals i reckon will take me 3 weeks!

the overall plan is to make a "counts as" deathwing list (i know its terminator heavy but i wanted these models as "practise" units for painting!)

after that its gonna be lysander, a couple of terminator squads using the space hulk terminators i have and a land raider or two.

Ok so tonights update isnt much (i like to update sundays and thursdays, sad huh?) ive got a bit done on the RB and played with a bit of weathering on the turret.

loads still eft to do, most of the turret, the bolters and gubbins etc

lots still on the main tank, got to finish the exhausts, paint the ram, finish the ammo boxes and the grab rails also before i do the tracks...

after that i have to add the transfers, then varnish it (to hold the transfers on), then weather it then varnish it again!

lots to do indeed!

then i can finish the tac squad!

then lysander

after that i think it will be a terminator squad!

So heres sundays update.

The main hull is done paint wise, next i hace to add the decals then weather the lot up.
The turret is also done sans the inside with the little screen and the handles.

Heres some pics

Ok so heres tonights update,

first off the razorbacks finished.
i myself think i weathered it far too much, lol well practice makes perfect and the next tanks wont have half as much weathering!

I also bought a new tool to aid with my painting, i hate waiting for paint to dry so i bought this cheap ass hairdryer from argos for £4 yes thats right, £4.

Ok so i thought i should help a little in the community, im going to show you all how to make a super simple lighting box for your pics.

all you need is,

1 cardboard box
some plain white paper
1 sheet of paper printed with a blue gradient

oh and some sellotape....

step one, cut the top and front out of your box then stick a sheet of white paper in the sides like so..

next stick a bit in the rear!

next stick your blue gradient bit in the bottom so it curves up at the back, try not to make it fold, more a gentle curve upwards.

next lower a lamp over the top like so and start taking pictures!

heres the result of that session

not bad for a simple cheapo job eh?

I love how you weather everything. Very battleworn and experienced. Top notch in my books.

Nice lightbox too. I take my pics at my patio door with the side of my kitchen cabinet as my backgroud. Works well enough, but your background looks much more professional (I have no idea if I spelt that right.)

Have a go at a lightbox! they are usable if a little annoying (this one seems to make yellows look a little orangey... god knows why. probably the iphone used as a camera!

a small update,

The melta guy is practically finished, just needs decals and vanishing etc. which i wont do till the squads done.

Currently working on the sarge, should be finished by the weekend.

and i know its not power armour but the GF has been painting some eldar mini's.

I'm not sure what she wants out of them yet ( i doubt she knows either) but its fun to see her doing it!

Hi guys and gals, so the sarge is finally done.

only 3 more guys for this squad of 5. (they take me ages!! damn my self diagnosed ADHD!)

The sarge is a vet sarge (hence the red skull and red stripe)

some Imperial Fist people dont like this look as they say it looks rubbish, i think they just found out after they had painted theirs and see it as a poor excuse! lol

anyway a few pics..

On another note, i really want to get hold of these oop terminators

bottom left in the pic, i already have the one with what looks like a normal marine head, however i'm still after the stupid semi circle shoulder pad guy and the less than well sculpted no weapons guy...

Cheers man, i hope it helps!

Well not much to report today, currently working on the last 3 guys from the combat squad and still doing boring basecoats, which are not worth pics.

so today i leave you with this thought, weve seen the osprey style storm bird conversions, but have you seen this?

lol i think its based on this old piece of artwork.

And have you guys seen the new jokareo model yet?

if not prepare yourselves to be dissapointed...

More updates sunday guys!

Interesting colour on the marine, really like the highlighting on the shoulder pad, not sold on the pitch black though.

Awesome to see an old school bolter as well

Hello, i am now painting Carcharodons, i have here a picture of my first model a dreadnought.
its not finished yet, it needs a few more areas worked on, but only little details and of course decals!

does anyone know when Forge world are due to release the decals?

After the dreadnought i will be working on a squad of terminators using oop minis.

regarding the IG, i will go back to them when i have a playable army of carcharodons,
using the dark angel dex my 1500 pt army will be thus
(not meant to be competative just quick to paint so i can get a foot on the ladder!)

dread, land raider crusader, 2 land raiders, tactical terminator squad, assault terminator squad and belial! (will use tyberos from forge world as belial)
thats only 15 models!!
not many models to get this list finished lol.

thanks for looking!

Well the dreads finally done, just needs decals which forge world tell me will be available in 2-3 months.

waiting on some bits in the post now! sucky! lol.

Definitly going to have to try your lightbox idea, most of my pics turn out like crap. Great work on the fists and the dread!

While orange is not exactly my cup of tea, I definitely like both the quality of your painting, and your efforts at weathering. And your rendition of those newfanged Space Sharks - oh, what a deep joke that is - will probably look real good as well. Keep it up!

go for it mate, it really is super easy and the results really are worth it!

i found a pic of the dred i didnt put up,

Also people might like to see a pic of my "man cave" for a laugh, its so messy right now as i have pushchairs, 2 guitars, 2 "toy" guitars steering wheel and racing seas for the ps3 etc. its a dump!

need to have a reaarange methinks. unfortunatyely i share the room with a 657 year old (or thereabouts) parrot type thing (a quaker) which likes to throw its feaces about a lot somehow. so i try to stay clear.

it also swears which can be entertaining.

anyway got started on the interior of the LRC but not much to show for it so far!

also this guy came in the post!

im looking forward to painting him, especially as i seem to have gotten a good cast from forge world! what is the world coming to eh?

lol, not sure were the orange is? if you mean the "golden yellow" i guess it can look a bit orange on some monitors. as for the sharks, cheers! i hope to keep it up! though the hot weather makes me want to fiddle outside a lot!

Ok so ive completed the interior of the LRC, its now assembled and im working on the exterior.

i have made all the "openable" doors "openable", something ive never bothered doing before, especially those little slidey ones!

Its painted well enough for an interior nobody's ever going to see! so anyway heres some pics for now.

Good evening! hope youre all well?

anyways, got the base coat sorted on the 'raider, just washed the black and now have to highlight it.
after the blacks finished i can just go over it and do all the little details, lenses, eagles skulls all that faff.

then paint and bung the tracks on and jobs a good un (untill FW release the transfers!)

I'm hoping they release a big shark symbol so i can put one on like in IA10, if not i migth have to freehand it....

anyway, heres the pics so far.

heres some pics.

and a semi close up of the forge world door. not as scary to paint as i thought!

please ignore the highlights on the black for now, i tried to do them when i was feeling ill! i wish i hadnt, now i have to go back and tidy them all up!

Thanks for looking!

Wow. Now that's a tank. Intimidating but me likey very much! The Dred was pretty freakin' shweet too. Call me dumb but I've never heard of the Carcharodons.

Nice man cave BTW. It's good to know I'm not the only person with poop throwing animals (my poop tossers are from the rabbits species). And nice guitars. I haven't played mine in a couple years at least. My dad 'borrowed' my amp for something and I haven't seen it since and I'm much too cheap to go buy another one. Oh well.

Nice work on the models nonetheless and hope to see more soon.

Carcharodons is just the new "official" term for the Space sharks, which you probably have heard of?

Also i dont get much time to play the guitars, the closest i get nowadays is playing some Rock band with the kids!

Cheers again!

Anyway, just been cleaning up these guys. the middle sculpt really is terrible! lol

Of course I've heard of the Space Sharks. I'm quite a fan of them, at least visually as I don't know very much (anything at all really) about their background.

Touche to that. Except I don't play Rock Band with the kids as they say it's too hard for them and they're not fans of challenging themselves. I play either by myself or with the hubby, which is still fun.

Whoa. Where'd you get those dudes? They look hardcore oldschool.

I got these dudes from ebay over the last few months! what a bunch eh?

Heres the slow progress on the termies, excuse pics, camera doesnt like large areas of black....

GREAT stuff there Random!

I was going to post something about a very cheap lightbox, and your thread topped the list today. Not trying to thread-jack, but here's a similar, easy solution. Check with your local store (or Sam's/Costco here in the states...I don't know the Euro equivalent)...you can find boxes similar to this (the Dread's a $12-eBay find):

Some real nice stuff here Random. One beef i have though is with your hard line highliting, for example on the knee of your yellow marine, it should only appear where the light would hit, like on the top of the knee pad rather than around the whole thing.

Keep up the good work!
