Beasts of War has posted information that Mantic's line of Orcs has gone on pre-sale;

They have links to Wayland Games' pre-order page; they're offering two sets, 30 Orcs for $40 (before discount), and 15 Orcs for $22.50 (again, before discount). Both boxes include command.

That said, I haven't found anything on Mantic's site about this, so I'm not sure how far out all this is, what else is in the range, etc. If anyone else has some info I'd love to hear it.

We were given codes, preview information and consent to launch. You might notice that we at Wayland have worked at promoting Mantic since they launched. So we only tend to reveal informaiton when we have the "go" from theose guys up north.

The Orc greens look fab as does some other stuff.

There are apparently two sprues: one of three Orcs in light armour, and one of two Orcs in heavy armour, which are compatible.

Personally, I'm just waiting for the humans.

I LOVE that mantic does multi-part plastics. I just wish they'd branch into sci-fi sets. I would love to see some competition for 40K figures done multi-part plastic.

They're apparently planning on doing so, with the first releases somewhere from August onwards. I am also waiting for those humans.

Humans, aliens... I don't care, I just can't wait to see them. I want to see something new and fun to assemble not from GW, but nothing beats mutli-part plastics. I just get annoyed with metals now and all their crappy static positions.

I'm also very excited to see Mantic's Sci-fi line.

On the Orcs, I'm a little surprised to see that first mock-up. From the design art I thought they were going to go for a much more bestial looking Orc...which is highlighted in the drawing by the very small distance between its snout and its mouth.

But that first model pic shows a much more 'GW' style Orc face, where there is a ton of space on its face between its nose and its mouth. I'm actually a bit disappointed by this, as I was hoping to see a bit of a different perspective on the Orc, but perhaps when we see the entire model the uniqueness of the Mantic Orc will be more apparent.

Agreed. Also a paint to work with if you want to convert/customize something.

So far Im loving Mantics work. Im not looking to get into any more games that need full armies, but I will be picking up a copy of their board game when it comes out.

Who knows, maybe a couple of those heavy armor Orcs just to build and paint.

I'm going to want to see a lot more before I get stoked. For all I know they will be 30 unipose Orks. I'm cautiously optimistic, but that's my default policy.

Yeah, personally I'm hoping for a line much more in keeping with the illustration; I've little interest in GW style "wacky" orcs. But I'm willing to wait and see.

+1

I want to see something different, more bestial. Brian nelson did a lot of good with Gw's Orc and Ork appearance and I hope Mantics sculpters make something that is really identifiable as a 'Mantic Orc'.

Beasts of War has added to their coverage of the Mantic Orcs by posting painted versions of the 3-ups.

Seeing them painted, they do seem less cartoon-y then GW's Orcs, but a far cry from the "realism" in the LotR orcs.

We've still only seen a very small number of the sculpts, so it's hard to get a real feel for the line as a whole so far.

Nice... i like Mantic a lot, i kind see them as the "resistance". Im anxious about this sci fi range, and i expect they come in a "new but friendly" style...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

Mantic is tempting me so much... I think if I eventually do give in to the temptation to start another warhammer army, it will be via Mantic's models. Either VC, TK, or O&G...

Also have to second (third/fourth?) the sentiment above, that I hope they are more bestial looking than GW's orcs (as the artwork looks to be, but not so much the model). This is a wide open niche, as GW's are so comical... the black orcs, and to a lesser extent the new savage orcs, are the most appealing to me as they actually looking intimidating. Especially for fantasy, the comedic orc is not welcome...

Looks a bit top heavy.. and if he is as large as implied, will he be able to fit on mantic's 20mm square base or will they have a new base size?

With GW's stealth price increase on the regular Orc Boyz, I can see these being really popular as an alternative.

Thanks to several Skull Pass and bargain buys, I have the groundwork for a good Orc and Goblin army sitting in my miniatures closet right now. All I'm really missing are a nice chunk of Orcs to go with the Night Goblins, Black Orcs, Spider Riders and Boar Boyz that I already have. Though I wasn't planning on spending any more money on WHFB, Mantic's Orcs may just be enough to convince me to finish off the army.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I'm not completely sold on the new GW savage Orcs. I kind of liked the older more comedic range, before the game and GW took itself too seriously (applies to 40k also).

And you could argue that if Mantic made some more 'comedic' orcs they would be at contrast to what GW is currently producing. The new Savage orcs look so full of rage, that it looks like their mouths will turn around and eat their own head, then repeat it over and over again until it resembles some kind of optical illusion.

Despite their "rage", the savage orcs are still somewhat comical... or maybe cartoony is the right word.

A more "bestial" look would be awesome, to me!

I didn't like the 3-up, until I saw it painted! I was considering trading off my OnG, but may reconsider once I get a better gander at the Mantic Orcs

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Not to into the 3-up. His eyes really pop out of his head, and he looks like he has chronic back pain or something. Still, the "snotling" is pretty cool!

More information posted at the indispensable Beasts of War (really, how did I not know about these guys for so long, they're great!);

Many more images at BoW.

I'm not sure what to say, these new orcs looks much more like the savage-style that I was expecting... maybe the angle is just off on the earlier pics?

Runnin up on ya.

Wow, that's some nice work.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Oooh, and one more thing I just noticed, nosing around BoW;

This "Sneaky Goblin" is a limited edition that comes from Mantic if you order enough to qualify for free shipping.

Me likey.

Damn Mantic, they may get me to buy that damned hardcover O&G book! Blarg!

Edit: According to the front page on Mantic's site, the mini is free with free postage, which is 25 pounds, 35 Euro or $50.
