This is my first real conversion, so be gentle

I had fairly aggressive plans, which I've decided to shelve, except for the modifications to the turret placement. I really dislike the positioning on the top because it makes the vehicle so tall and un-aerodynamic. My thinking is that top mounted weapons also get in the way of fire support as the Storm Raven flares down to land. The body of the Storm Raven masks the turret.

So, I wanted to move the turret to the front of the SR to give it move of a gun ship look. It's also stretches out the length of the vehicle and makes it look more aerodynamic. Here's what I have so far.

I also took the bracket from a chaos Havok launcher and turned it into a chin mount. I'll get a picture of this posted later. I'm staring to like how it's turning out. Instead of a very tall, ungainly gun ship, I think it looks sleeker and more aggressive. The line from the canopy continues down all the way to the nose of the gunner's station.

Also made some good progress on painting the pilot and gunner as well as the interior.

Apache gunship style. I like it. Good start on painting as well (as far as i can tell).

ORBIT CAPABLE HIND!

That is an inspired conversion. Will you be fitting lifting canard above the vectored thrusters? I think that might balance it fully and fix the whole centre of mass problem.

Doesn't that interfere with the assault ramp on the nose? There is an assault ramp on the nose, right?

Interesting take Ifurita!

I would almost see the wings/engines moving forward to make a more compact and sturdy looking feel... Hard to descirbe what I mean but I feel the added length up front could accomodate the wings more up front without unbalancing the look, might be cool!

I bricked over the assault ramp on the front. In game, I can still count as having a disembarking point on the front, but aerodynamically, it makes no sense. I can see a Storm Raven coming in for an assault, the front ramp deploying, then a) either getting ripped off by the air pressure or b) acting as another wing effect that immediately takes the storm raven into a nose dive into the ground.

I like the idea of the canards. ADDED. Now I just have to let the glue set and I can prime.

It looks good, I like the idea and it gives it kind of an Apache helicopter feel with the two cockpits and the underslung gun

Very nice, but won't you lose firing Los by mounting canons lower?

I am more of a painter than a player. I think the stock model looks silly. If I need to, I can measure LOS from the top, where the turret should be and still count-as the front ramp being available as an exit point. Just have to work that out with my opponent. That way, I don't also gain an extra 6" of range from the front mounted guns. Also, if I put it up on the stand, it should have plenty of LOS to anything I need.

I quite like the look of your version better then the original, I like your opinion that for a drop ship, the turret is il-placed to effectively protect the dis-embarking troops, it seems like the weapon system should be where you have placed them or on the underside, you have done well...

The other reason I don't like the idea of an assault ramp in front, other than for aerodynamic reasons, is that you're basically giving the bad guys a free shot into all of the soft and squishy innards of your super armored attack ship. Seems like a bad idea to me. Where as disembarking from the sides and rear, allows troops to use the armored body for cover, while the weapons systems lay down suppressing fire.

That nose turret is awesome. The only criticism I can now think of is that the assault cannon would take a bit of a beating during re-entry. However there is a bit of space around the nose turret still. Could you fit in some kind of heat shield on the back of the mount so that it can swivel around for re-entry? alterntaively a detachable drop shield?

For re-entry, I'd just pull it off the mounting (magnetized) and store it inside.

It is magnetized, so if I decide to change the mount later, it's pretty easy to do.

Starting to get first coats of paint on. Brown primer, Mechrite Red basecoat, Red Gore top coat. I'm really getting to like how it's looking.

The colours really make it come to life. I'm not sold on the tail (never will be), but I really like what you did with the nose.
