Subject: djphranq's P&M Blog: March 21, 2016 - Started painting Typhus
Today I start work on a couple projects: A gretchin/runtherd display piece and some Astra Militarum for my planetary defense force (117th Kronus Regiment)
The first bit of work I am doing is prepping some bases with some cork.
In an attempt to stay out of my head, I'm going to try to get back to doing more hobby work again.
Coming Soon:
Astra Militarum - I'm moving away from power armor and trying my hand at the brave Imperial Guard forces... specifically Cadians.
Xenos - now and then... to break up the monotony of working on just one army I'll throw in a little model or two from some of the following xenos factions: Orks and Tyranids.
Paradigm Challenge thread projects - aside from the above you'll see here progress for my entries in Paradigm's monthly challenge threads.

Assault Terminators Assembly
09 May 2015
Phranq is done... maybe... no... not really... but he looks finished... I probably could stand to add a highlight or something maybe.
20 APR 2015
Added sand to Phranq's base and did a wash on the Chaplain. Not much else tonight. Tomorrow I'll clean up the details and decorations to the Chaplain and prime both the Space Marine Bike and Phranq.
19 APR 2015
Applied first layer of paint to the Terminator Chaplain. Next up is a wash.
12 APR 2015
Tonight was some assembly work. I put together the termie chaplain that I started friday. I also put together a Space Marine biker.
10 APR 2015
So what does a communication technician do the evening after his last day of work before his union contract expires with the company? Worry about how the hell to get another job? NAY! He drowns his troubles in hobby work!
This one is Finecast. Maybe a year or two ago I would have taken great efforts to attain the metal version. But after some experience with Finecast, I'm not minding working on this one.
08 APR 2015
Just some light work this evening or rather afternoon. Just going to clean up some of the lines on the ork slugga boy. His name is Phranq da Tank.
05 APR 2015
It looks like I'll be taking another long break. Not sure how long. The break won't actually start till I finish up a couple things. But any army plans I had will have to be put on hold indefinitely. As much as I would like to really get back into the hobby I just can't afford to do it. I've messed up a lot of stuff past couple of years and its caught up.
So here is the final lineup before the break. This will be my last hurrah before I go on hobby hiatus.
Space Marine Terminator Chaplain
Space Marine Bike
Ork slugga boy
Its what I have left. I have some stuff coming in but they are just going to be turned around and sold on eBay so as to cover numerous expenses.

"The project before... the project..."
This summer I'm looking to start a Space Wolves Army. The original plan was to do something 30K related... that is still a something I look to do... just not right now. The new plan is to do 40K Space Wolves this summer then start the 30K army once the 40K army is complete.
BUT...
Before any of that, I need to do a bit of 'warm up'. I need something to get my skills going again. Hence this project before "THE PROJECT!!!"
Yesterday I was thinking I'd do some work on a Space Marine Attack Bike for the month's work with a Terminator Chaplain as a second 'goal'.
Then I got to seeing Paradigm's contest thread. After reading over the description and rules, I decided to participate.
Now, instead of working on the Attack Bike as the primary hobby activity for this month of April, I'll be working on the Terminator Chaplain.

Haha... so yeah... I guess I just can't stay away from the hobby... (omg did I really say 'maybe forever'? haha)
Coming Soon:
Space Marine Librarian in Terminator Armor
Space Marine Chaplain in Terminator Armor
Space Marine Captain: Lord Executioner
Just waiting for the above to arrive. I'll do pretty much a WIP thing with them. I'm still not sure what chapter to make them... maybe Ultramarines... while at Sunday Mass this morning, I was playing around with the idea of a homebrew chapter. Hopefully by the time I'm finished putting them together I'll figure out how I want to paint them.
Hello! Thank you folks for taking a peek at my workbench thread. I appreciate greatly the comments and suggestions you have provided. I'm closing up shop having gotten rid of my hobby stuff. I'm looking to step away from the hobby. How 'permanent' this will be is anyone's guess. Right now it feels like it will be for a long time... maybe forever. I've enjoyed my time here on DakkaDakka and hope for the best for everyone.
Peace, Love, and Strength to you all.
Regards,
Frank

Old post:
Aside from 2 Space Marine armies ( "Can Opener" and "Crazorback"), I'm also fooling around with other stuff
Here is my first ever Chaos Warrior that I've put together.
Here are the bits to the turret for a hellhound... I might start IG as another army to play for 40k... for now I'm just buying kits to put together.
Here is a block of Chaos Warriors that I put together. The loadout I had for them was extra hand weapons and full command. I don't know if I'll use these in a Tzeentch army I had planned... some folks are suggesting I should have gone with shields.
Here is a closeup of the Command for the block of warriors.

A bunch of empty boxes from kits... I saved bigger ones to use as spray boxes for when I start priming.
Here are a bunch of boxes that contain sprues with leftover bits from stuff I've been working on ('Can Opener' and 'Crazorback').
Here are a bunch of bits still on sprue... they're mostly left over stuff... all Space Marine.
Here are some bits I've collected... a lot of the bits in this container are Ravenwing extras from the Ravenwing box. I still have to move bits from recent sprues to this container... or I might get a new one since its getting kind of crowded.
Here is another container of bits... lots of Space Marine and vehicle bits.
Here is a bunch of terrain pieces and models that I've purchased over the past couple of years ... mostly Reaper models.
Some female models from the Reaper line... I built and primed them maybe in 08 or 09... I was using them as fill in for some Protectorate of Menoth Choir.
This ones a dancer.
Here we have a flutist.
this one is a paladin of sorts... she has a mace and what looks like one of those incense things
This one is a bard I guess from the Lute/Guitar/whatever she's carrying.
This is a Khador Spriggan for Warmachine. I'm debating if I should get rid of it or build it... I'm on a 40k kick right now... I might put it up for trade.
Here is a respirator/mask thingie that I wear when I spray paint my models... its gonna feel good to put it on once the weather warms up and I can paint.

here are some extra skulls and shells as well as a space marine backpack left over from the AoBR box... I think I might use them to create objective markers.
Some more marine bits from AoBR... the tactical marines will be used in 'Crazorback', the Dread will be used in 'Can Opener', and the captain will keep foam spaces warm.
This is a sprue of a Nob that came with an issue of White Dwarf.
Looky what I found in my garage... I almost forgot I had this stuff.
Here are some nids from the Battle for Maccragge.
Bits to a Khador Spriggan (Warmachine)
First Chimera type chassis I've ever built. I didn't like putting the treads on too much but once I got past that it was pretty fun to put together.
Bits for the Hellhound's turret.
My first Hellhound... infact my first IG tank.
This is a mini that came with the Collector's Edition of Warhammer: Age of Reckoning... its an ork shaman or something.
Purchased some IG from Black Diamond Games... They like to order some of the online/mail order only stuff from GW... sometimes they even have Forgeworld kits.
They're Steel Legion
This cost me 3 bucks plus shipping... total paid 10 bucks... I'm going to use this to help me come up with some more armies to build.
Here are sprues of bits that I've accumulated from 'Crazorback' and 'Can Opener'
This pile consists of sprues from the Space Marine bikes... I have some sprues that have whole bikes... but most are sprues with either 1 arm or antennae.
Here are a bunch of sprues with bits from razorbacks, a land raider crusader, drop pod, and some landspeeders.
Here are some sprues with bits from the Commander kit.... I mostly got them for the combi-meltas... the rest of the stuff I'm just hoarding
Assault Marine sprues... I mostly got this one box for the powerfist and the 'dynamic' legs.
Tac Marine sprues... mostly went for these kits for the special weapons and extra marine bits to use with heavy weapons.
Assault Terminator bit sprues... I have an idea to use these in a 'Night Lords' army.
Here are sprues from the Devastator kit... Most of the weapons built are Lascannons... the rest I will build later just because I like Space Marines with heavy weapons.
Space Marine Bike sprues that still have all the bits... some of these are going to be built into meltagun marines and a sergeant.
These sprues came with the Ravenwing box... I have enough to fill up the box the Ravenwing models came in. The most I used of them are some of the bits for the Typhoon missile launcher for the Land Speeders.
These are vehicle accessorie sprues found mostly with the rhino-chassis-type kits (vindicator... Razorback... rhino). I'm going to work on these tonight so I have enough stormbolters/hunter killer missiles for the vindicators, landraider, and razorbacks that I have.
Decals and instructions... I might fool around with the decals... I haven't used decals in maybe 25 years... last I used them was when my father and I used to build some model kits.
6 packs of 5 meltaguns... I need a couple for 'Can Opener'... I'm also thinking of using them for IG.
These are some of the tools I use... hobby knife, pin vice, brushes, sculpting tools, and a pair of snips... actually I use the GW snips... the black one pictured here was the first one I ever used for modeling.
The green stuff from my tools went bad or something... I bought some Citadel stuff; I thought I'd give it a try.
Here are some reaper paints that I purchased... these will be the first reaper colors I'll be using... only other Reaper stuff I've tried was their paint on primer which I love love love.

Here is one Steel Legion model with a grenade launcher.... I totally don't know how I missed all that flash on top of the grenade launcher.
Steel Legion Sgt. I'm not sure if I'll use this... I was thinking I'd have the Steel Legion models with a bolt pistol and power weapon be my sgts/commanders.
Instead of using the small bases supplied with the box of Steel Legion, I mounted these two on a 60mm just as most heavy weapon squads are mounted.
Here is Grumlock and Gazbag built. I may have been mistaken about the orc being a shaman... he looks more attack-y... I think the Gretchin/grot/goblin/whatever on his soldier is a shaman.

Haha... But of course!
Actual I made a vow for this week not to by anything... we'll see how long that holds... so far I've gone from Sunday to today without any gaming purchases... just a couple more days
Pick up your greenstuff online, it is all the same exact material and you can get it a heck of a lot of cheaper online.
The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
That's what I would have normally done. My impatient butt made an 'emergency purchase' of the GW stuff from a local store just so I could get it right away. Next Green stuff purchase will definitely be online.

Necron Codex... by the time I get around to making an army for them I'll have to use the new codex. I mostly got this to fool around with lists before the new edition comes out. I'm also interested in the fluff.
Here's an old version of the Ork Wartrukk. I'm not sure if I'm going to use it in an army I have planned. Its got a smaller footprint than the current model. Some might argue that I'm modeling for advantage if I use it.
Apocalypse Reload... I doubt I'll play any Apoc games soon but the formations they show are pretty cool. I can draw inspiration for lists from this.
A box of Karskins. I've always wanted these. I'm not sure how I'll incorporate them into any of my lists but they'll be fun to work on.
Assault Marines. I'm mostly going to use this for kitbashing.
Protectorate of Menoth. I got this via a partial trade/purchase for some Orks I wasn't going to use.
Avatar of Menoth Warjack and Exemplar Vengers
Castigator Warjack, Exemplar Errants, and more Vengers.
Blisters with more Errants
Blisters with Vilmon, Reclaimer, and another Venger
A Box full of terrain. Its some good quality stuff. Its made of pink foam.

How about a trade - everything I own for your wargaming collection? It's a pretty sweet deal, you know. Looking around, you'll be getting some pens, a lamp, a bookshelf, a pair of scissors, some cardboard... Oh, I found a mug! I'm sure there's a chair around here somewhere, as well. Oh, right. It's under me. See? Plenty to keep you occupied. We can sort out the shipping details later.

I'm not sure why I have 3 bags of these. I know I needed one for a large base for a heavy weapons team. Not sure what the rest are for.
I'm utilizing this more in my work. It will allow me to construct some stuff, prime it, and then take it apart again to paint piece by piece.
Here are three pieces that were part of the Menoth acquisition that I showed in the last update. Along with those blisters and boxes I received these pieces.

I actually need to curtail my spending. I have credit cards that probably could have been paid off had I focused on them rather then on miniatures that I probably will never get around to.

Tyranids attract more tang than an astronaut convention.
Success is a little more than I already have. Every day, Forever. Until you have nothing.
As Galactic ruler, I promise to be tough but fair. But tough.

One of my favorite 'tools' and a couple future project pieces.
I was using a six section palette for a bit but I've switched to some lids from containers of soup that I buy at the grocery store.
More lids; more palettes
I got this for a good price. This is my first piece of GW terrain (not counting the Macragge pieces).
The person who sold this to me described it as a heavy weapons 'team' so I was expecting just that... a team (weapons plus 2 figures). Turns out he meant squad which means 3 teams... the price was definitely worth it.
