All squads are Fearless and have at least +1S. Now with MoS on the Marines, they hit before just about everything besides Eldar, and a select few others. I could swap out the MoS/Meltabombs for the MoK and get 45 S5 Attacks on the charge. Also, I can drop all special weapons and meltabombs for another Oblit if that would suit it more. Do you think this could be competitive? 45 S5/Fearless Marines sounds nice to me, if not it does not I would simply play a game or two with it using my friends CSM.

I have a mix up with the points, meltabombs are dropped. Smitty, explain because right now you have contributed absolutely nothing and I don't plan on taking anything saying "Auto Loss" Seriously. I would like to congratulate you on that useless +1 to your post count now.

No, no, switch to *all* meltaguns and keep the MBs & special weps.

Given the plus on STR, I'd lose the Pfists and go PWs, keeping the fast Init and still high STR. Otherwise, reasonably do-able ... except not enough anti-T. I've been running 7 Oblits at 1500 and they aren't always enough and you have just the two pair.
You'll get chopped up, but perhaps have enough after the slog to deal.
RTT competitive? I doubt it, but I've limited RTT experience. The codex is old enough that this might've been tried and dumped, but, give it two RTTs. IF you eat it, then move on.

To the OP though.
Its going to be hard to win with that list, but seriously, 45 Marines walking across the bored is pretty tough to take down, especially with cover saves (depending on how much terrain your using though). Only thing i don't like, is you only have 5 squads, a squad or two of Raptors, or even bikes would have been nice, just to get ahead of the Marines, and distract the enemy, but to be honest with you, i don't think you can fit it in.

If you are going to run the oblits, run 1 squad of 2 and 2 squads of 1. You get the same number of shots but can fire them at different targets. You're so low on killpoints that won't even be a factor.
I've thought about doing something similar, but with the Icon of Tzeentch to give them the 5+. Makes me not have to worry about cover so much. It woudl be interesting to hear how you fare with them though!

It will be a hard battle for sure but It's doable.
I like what MegaDave is suggesting. MoT will probably keep them alive long enough to attack something.
Choose either MB or PF you don't need both.\
I don't see a problem with either Melta's or Plasma's but Melta's do tend to win out in the end. The Str8 being abler to inflict instant death on a T4 model is what really puts it over for me.
Will this be fun competative?? Sure, Will it be tournament competative? probably not.
I only say this because it isn't very versatile and only really has one available strategy. If someone catches on to it, you will get walked!
Looks like It could be fun none the less. Give it a try

My take on your idea:
Fabius the Bile (160)
TROOPS:
Chaos Marines x16 - Champion w/ Powerweapon & Meltabomb. Icon of Tzeentch, Enhanced Warrior, Meltagun x2 = 383
Chaos Marines x15 - Champion w/ Powerweapon & Meltabomb. Icon of Tzeentch, Enhanced Warrior, Meltagun x2 = 365
Chaos Marines x15 - Champion w/ Powerweapon & Meltabomb. Icon of Tzeentch, Enhanced Warrior, Meltagun x2 = 365
HEAVY:
Obliterator x 1 = 75
Obliterator x 1 = 75
Obliterator x 1 = 75
TOTAL: 1498

Do you not understand 5th Edition / Warmhammer 40k in general? Have you not played enough games to know that foot slogging units just doesnt work anymore? Are you trying to make a fun list? Or do you actually think that a list like this will be competitive?
Do you not understand you can put your marine squads in Rhino's for a very low point cost?
I just dont understand what your trying to go for here, because honestly the list you have here WILL NOT work, and anyone giving you hope is just wrong for doing so. Idk mabe you live in a city where people are just plain bad at 40k, but from where Im from you would probably get tabled by the top of 3 if not earlier.

Just depends on the opponent and situation.
Against shooty armies, deepstrike the oblits, and have the marines run up & melta stuff, then multi charge if possible. Against CC armies like bugs and orks, have the oblits on the table and have the marines stand still and shoot them until they get close, and then charge if you think you can win it.

Who in their right mind, would allow Marines to "run up" to their tanks with meltas? Since when do Regular CSM stand back and shoot and wait for things to get close?
IMO your trying to play TAU/Space Wolves with CSM, which is an army that excells in close combat support from zerkers/Demon princes ect ect ect
The only strategy for a list like this, is to choose a new army and or make a new list because this isnt how CSM is played competively.

Serously man. This is the second time you have contributed absolutely nothing to this thread.
If you have something to say, say it and then back it up with something.
*you suck, your ideas suck, get a life* doesn't constitute advice
No this list is not going to win a tournament, but there are ways to improve it keeping with the foot slogging theme.

Why do you care if someone tries something different? If he has the models, he can try out the army and see if it works. If it doesn't, he can always get a few rhinos to put them in with minimal change to the list. Either way, the Chaos Codex has so many detractors who say the only "competitive" stuff involves plague marines and oblits, so no matter what he does someone is going to poop on his list.
So I'd suggest throwing out some ideas to help or not bother posting at all.

Maybe I don't want to hop on the Mech Bandwagon? Maybe it doesn't have to win Tournys? Maybe I like the concept? Maybe I like having fun playing Warhammer? Maybe I don't care what you think? I really fail to understand any advice you are giving, everyone else is contributing just fine, and helping, you however are being TFG who thinks that Warhammer is all about winning, I simply asked that question to get opinions on whether it would be competitive whatsoever. Please, if your going to do nothing besides tell me to "Mech-Up" leave this thread. MegaDave wrote:Just depends on the opponent and situation. Sounds like a plan, I'll be playing a game on Vassal soon against my friend who runs a close ranged Power Blog IG Army, so this should be interesting.

If you want a competitive CSM List I can give you tourney lists.
From what it sounds like, you dont want to run a competitive list.
IMO go play the list , and when this list gets out performed considerably you will understand why everyone has hopped on the "mech bandwaggon".
IMO you havent played more than 5 5th ed games.

No this list is not going to win a tournament
Depends on the tournament, the local players and the scoring system. It'd be tough to win the best general, but is always doable. Very low kill points make that scenario not insurmountable, and even in objectives he can just hide the units, run out the last few turns and have them spread out to take multiple objectives with no fear of running away. Let the oblits take out the biggest threats and see what happens.
He could also go for the sportsman score or painting. All are valid aspects of the hobby and worth trying to "win."

I've actually played over 20 there bud, I'm no hardcore veteran, but I know what I am talking about, I have lists from my Other two armies that perform well at tournaments. I will be posting an attempt at a semi competitive slaanesh list soon. However my friend who is starting IG is getting rid of his CSM, he has 50+, I figured if this list is fun to play why not help a friend out and buy them?
Again, you have not contributed, please stop bumping this thread before it gets locked by an admin for flaming, some people here actually care about helping.

Ya know, I think it would be fun to play, especially if you make "RAWR" noises as they run across the field. I have a buddy that I only play infantry games against, just to use some of the less "competetive" choices in the book. Nothing like possessed tearing up blood angels tactical squads, lol!
Also, if you like Chaos Marines, it's not a bad core of models to pick up to begin with. If the particular list doesn't work out the way you'd like, it wouldn't be hard to change it around to make it do what you want.

Haha sounds like a plan, he's just getting into the game part, after collecting for a while, so it will just be for teaching him and giving him a small amount of money to buy more Guardsmen. I would want to play Slaanesh competitively, I know it may not be as great as Nurgle, but I've always liked them and I feel they can do decent on paper, on the board though is another story...
