I was planning on making some roughriders, but I'm first going to idea farm here.
Vote- cold ones, wolves, or pigs as mounts. I'm not sure if wolves could work due to it being unrealistic, pigs would be funny, cold ones are aesthetically pleasing.
Should I put them on cavalry bases or 40mm rounds? The rounds would look better, but there's the modeling for advantage problem.
To give clarification, these are Catachan riders.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.” |

no. 1: its the future, nothing has to make sense no. 2: they won't actually be identical to today's animals. Look at the death corps cavalry, and you will notice their legs are very very odd looking no.3: Catachan Devil Catachan Devil Riders!!!!!!! I might recommend something more along the lines of a lizard/raptor. They're jungle deathworlders so it makes sense to me that you would lean in that direction for concept design, as that type of animal fits the jungle/deathworld paradigm.

To glimpse the future, you must look to the past and understand it. Names may change, but human behavior repeats itself. Prophetic insight is nothing more than profound hindsight.
It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from. |

That settles it, I'm going with my gut and doing cold ones. I like the idea of the Catachan Devil Catachan Devil Riders, I'll have to count that as a sentinel due to their size. I was considering wolves as a way to spite thunderwolf cav.
About the bases though, would the round bases be acceptable?

round or square shouldnt matter. Its the length. I picked up two different boxes for SM bikers, and in the DA kit, they were square, in the Ultragayrine kit, they were round. 40K seems to love round bases, and since everything is measured from the base..... sometimes that little corner works for you, sometimes works against you, depends on if you are willing to take the risk.

Other option for bases is the bike bases, that's probably what I'll use on mine (they are longer than the cav ones so will be legal).

Hey Osyr, been awhile since I've posted on Dakka but I have to vouch for the Dark Elf Devilsaurs. They look sick with IG on top of them.
I bought a single DE Devilsaur off of ebay for like 5 bucks to test it out, it came out great.
