My Hobby Bench was built specifically to sit on top of two old metal rolling filing cabinets. It's just 1x pine frame, with 1/2" plywood and some trim bitz and a 1x shelf built on top with a plywood backboard.

I really need to fix the electrical. Rainy day off today is as good a time as any.

I'm very organised. It may not look it, but everything has a home and is always returned there when I've finished with it. It keeps my little ocd self happy and I have to really, in the limited space I have.

Hmmm, work spaces. I am short of space for now so computer desk is also model and paint bench for me.

Well made a Walmart run last night for the wife, but got a little something for myself as well

I love Dave's bamboo paint racks so much that I wanted to continue the bamboo element on my desk. With a little searching I found this cutlery tray which I have hanging via peg hooks on the board. It will serve as my painting cue for now. Hopefully it will help motivate me to get stuff done.

It even has a new nickname......my knights, orcs, and goons tray

It's been raining the last couple of days so no chance to prime anything . But that's getting me to get the gaming area all situated.

Also the old desk might just remain in use as the modeling bench and this new set up be used for painting.

Theo!!! Hot damn, that is a great idea! I think this will help me eventually to sort some space issues of myself...

But I doubt this will help to motivate you to paint. The sheer amount of minis I'm the cue would hold me back...tho these orks sure look promising...

@dr.h, there are no limits to the imagination I have, except staying on track long enough to see something thru
@vik, I know what you mean about having plenty to paint, however each little shelf holds 10 minis, so I can have a unit in the cue ready to go, or since there's 4 shelves and the largest unit size in mantic s KoW is 40 model I'm good

Well the room is a mess right now, but there's been progress.

The lighting is off somewhat, but I have a window up to my right, an overhead bulb and the fluorescent bulbs which are the daylight variety. I also attached the second magnetic toolbar on the right side. All the stuff underneath will be reorganized in due time.

A quick swing by hobby lobby with the 40% off coupon yesterday netted me a grassy field, something I never had before, it already looks 100x better in my eyes. Plus the size(50inchesx100inches) covered my (48x74) table and left a cut off piece the right size for a separate bloodbowl pitch.

I'm thinking of a way to replace the bunk bed table that will give me more storage space as well. It seems a little expensive for what I want to do, but I think the outcome will be excellent. Also note in the background the old desk which may wind up with the TV sitting on it for more entertainment. The right side of the room also has my bookcases along the length, you'd think I have enough storage space .

Not where I should be

Very envious of the space you have, but looking good and ready for some great modelling.

On the gaming table side. See if you can get some old kitchen base units, sometimes they are in the paper here when people update, they are just under 2 feet deep so can go back to back under the table, very stable and perfect height, and brilliant storage possibilities, especially if you can get drawer units.

Great idea cam , I've thought about them before, but I was considering getting some more black metal storage racks and doing a crazy build with them. It was going to be half shelf high 27" and three levels deep 40" and two units wide 70", but decided the bed will do for now.

I seriously got sick to my stomach when I started looking at the mantic orcs I have to paint , 140 new ones to go with the 200+ old ones I have yet to prime. This is why I stopped doing horde armies .

I need to investigate some storage and transport for my x-wing stuff. Don't want to buy an expensive battle foam bag, but they look the best.

I think with that amount of models you need a good-looking scheme that is quick and easy...probably some brown primer and then I'd just do some odd srybrush of metal on the armor and weaponry...orks are grubby and rusty anyways...if then some details are still needed then just add some red for eyes and so on and you're done...

I can't remember do you Airbrush? With that amount would make me think about it seriously.

As to transporting, aluminium cases and all that foam you already have kicking about.

@cam, I have an airbrush and just started to use it when the compressor died , I need a new compressor, but see below
@vik, yeah I'm not doing super quality on the production line, and have considered cored primer from army painter.

Well got some news at work as I clocked in. Unlimited overtime the next couple of weeks. Guess I'll be holding off on my triumphant return a little longer, but might have a shiney new compressor sooner than later.

Well not making big bucks, not as much as when I was at lowes, but ashen I went full time I started with four weeks if vacation plus sick time, benefits that put all my previous jobs to shame(working at a hospital give you great medical coverage). No customers or sales goals to reach. Plus this week they said I've been doing so good they want to move me to project tech, which lets me make my own schedule(no weekends unless I want them), and is supposed to be a significant raise which might get me back to my old pay levels.

To give you an idea of the medical coverage all three of my kids need braces and orthodontic work, each now gets $2000.00 this year to cover that, and another $500 next year, after that it's covered at I think 80%. My daughters medicine which under my wife's excellent insurance was $116.00 a month is now $8.00 (it was $96.00 a month when I was at lowes), and it's always been generic.

Also having the kids on my insurance instead of the wife's is a net savings of $120.00 a month.

Exactly how I work. In woodworking, there are two rules, one is that the only things on the workbench are the tools you need to do the task immediately at hand, and the material you're working on. Everything else is put away. And two, you should be able to find any tool immediately, even in complete darkness. Similar principles in labs. Cuts way down on accidents. plus leaving stuff out is an invitation to disaster with kids and pets around. Work neat, work complete.

I like seeing the variety of workspaces people have. It is kind of interesting.

@Theophany: Nice idea on the tray. I'll keep an eye out for something like it. Currently I use an old glass domed thing that was originally meant for cheese. It keeps the dust off the minis. And considering the time between painting sessions these days, It is needed :(

@nerdfest, , just cause I got the set up does not a painter make.
@red, adomed cake stand might be helpful for my height, the table heights have always caused me to stoop down while painting, thanks for that little tidbit and idea. That's why I love dakkadakka, we give each other great ideas, even when were not trying to.
@vik, I think America would become a third world country if we actually started to take care of our own. Just think of all the poor doctors, poor lawyers(no crazy malpractice cases), pharmaceutical companies wouldn't be making money, insurance companies would be out of business, not to mention all the scammers who try to bilk you with fake insurance.
@graven, man I miss that show , but definitely all American.
@kelly502, welcome to the thread, your jumping in right as I'm coming back, so hang on.

Well, unlimited overtime sounds great except when you are already scheduled 6days straight and you next days off are exam day then your daughters birthday . I think I'm going to go in three hours early today, might be two as I plan on stopping by the local me rads that just opened up last week. They have the metal shelves I talked about on sale for half off and are doing rain checks. They also have some compressors on sale that might just get my airbrush going again.

The knights, orks, and goons drawer seems to be a hit , while looking at it this morning I got another idea for it as well, but keeping that under wraps until I pick up at least two more.

Until then here's more insanity, its why you all come here after all, to feel good about yourself That way you can tell your significant other "Well honey, at least your not married to Theophany, he's ten times as badas I am about buying and stacking it up in the basement waiting for the rapture."

I thought I'd be good with just one more magnetic bar , well I have space on the other side of my desk for two more strips thank God. I just opened the good old tackle box of hobby tools and realized I still have plenty that need to see the light of day.

The last time my brother in law and I played KoW we needed more dice,, not sure how that happens around me, I am a border of all things gaming after all. So yesterday with a few minutes to spare before I went out the door it was time to get the dice in order. Mantic used d6 for KoW. What better way to say FU to GW than to use all those d6 that have come with starter sets since the beginning of time.

Oh and the tiny bag of plastic there are orclings(mantic s version of snotlings) they come free on the sprues and I have about 100 of them in there. They serve little purpose except as speed bumps in game, but they are characterful. There's only 3-4 poses, but my favorites are the one that is flattened on the back so he can be laid on the ground as if he's been stepped on, and the one giving the full orclings moon to the opponent .
And for those who think that's crazy

Those are backups.

The family is now up and moving so I'm going to spend a little time with them before work.

See you all later.

Ooh, nice dice. Including a decent amount of the rarely used d12s. Not seeing any Game Science polyhedrals though. (Grognard alert: those were the original ones back in the day, apart from the really cheap ones that came with a game) If I mixed in all my d6s, I may have close to that amount.

Have to admit hanging sharp things using magnets scares me a bit. But looks convenient.

Raise you table height. I took an old trestle style kitchen table and put in on a stack of 3 1x4 wood pieces. The extra 2 1/4" height really helps.
