So I recently came upon this eBay listing I wanted to share.

It's for made-in-China 65mm bases, that's the size that Dreadnoughts and Weapon Teams use. GW 65mm bases are hot item judging by the prices they go by on eBay and they're always out of stock at bitz sites. Well, now you can have 10 for $8 with free shipping to boot.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110590995141&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
(eBay protip: you can access a listing through your own local eBay branch just by changing the .co.uk part of the URL)

At less than $1 per base, I was willing to risk an order from Hong Kong. Well, I got my pack today. Here is a comparison to the regular GW base (the leftmost one on both pictures)

As you can see, they are exactly the same dimensions. Even the plastic is of the same thickness. I forgot to take a pic of the underside, but it has all the "hole guides" of the GW base in the same locations, plus 4 additional ones. The only other difference is that there is no texture on top. I have already tested GW paints and Revell plastic cement on them and they take both equally well as GW bases.

Note that the listing if for 10 bases for $8, but actually my pack contained 12 of them plus a cavalry base. This one is a hair smaller than GW's, but not enough to notice unless you're looking for it.

If you browse around, the store actually sells all of the classic round and square base sizes in plastic (here's hoping for pill and oval bases soon!) in smooth and badly textured versions, as well as some resin bases and other stuff.

Can you post a picture showing the bevel angles of the sides comparatively? If they are moderately different that's a no-buy for me.

Yeah, the bevel angles here are make-or-break.

It's not completely identical. I'll take a pic, but can you explain why it matters so much?

Because consistently is an important aesthetic factor.

Also the base size is 60mm not 65.

Because many people already have several of the equivalent GW bases and want to be consistent across their army.

If it's just a matter of uniformity, you can totally use them. I am quite certain that no one could tell them apart from more than 6" away.

You should measure one sometime (so should GW)

Looks pretty darn close to me...

Thanks for pointing thiis out! I actually like the larger bases for objectives (Gives you a bit more meat to work with, so to speak).

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

Is the top surface not 60mm diameter and the bottom 65mm diameter?
