I've just finished my first few Malifaux models, and I'm looking to give them a protective coat. However, these models have some metallics painted on them, and I'm worried that dullcote will, well, dull the metal look. Is this true?

Yes.

You can paint over the dullcote with gloss varnish to bring back the shine on the bits you want shiney, like metal, eyes, jewels and the like.
