So, I havent based my CSM yet because i havent been able to settle on a scheme.

I was torn between urban and desert.

So, im going to go for desert in the end. The effect im trying to get is basically a desert with no vegetation and with no water. basically, an extremely hostile environment to work in. Think Frank Herbert's dune.

Now, my issues are that

1) its going to clash with my paint scheme. basically, my choas are slaaneshi who keep their equipment in pristine condition, and i think this may look awkard on a "hostile" desert scheme.

2) im not sure how to pull it off, should i use a fine sand, and paint it desert colours? Or use the sand as is? if i should paint it, what colours should i use to paint it?

Also I am heading to the coastline in july, and was thinking of taking some of the beach sand (IIRC, its finer than the GW basing sand) and filtering it, and using that as basing sand. Would that work? Ill probably be able to get a whole 2 liter ice cream tubs worth easy, for basically free.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Grab a bucket of rough mixed beach sand and small pebbles. Let it dry, and filter out the finest grains because they are too fine.

Paint PVA on the base.
Spoon sand mixture over it and leave it to dry a bit
Tap off the excess.
When fully dry, paint a mixture of 50/50 PVA and water on top of the sand to fix it hard.

All my Tyranids are done this way.

I add some "Highland Tuft" as well.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
