We'll meet again was the end music for Dr. Strangelove
Sellers as 3 different people was awesome! He ad-libbed that last bit when he stood up out of the wheelchair and exclaimed, "Mein Fuhrer! I can walk!" that was not in the script, but kept.

@shasolenzabi

The director wanted to have Peter Sellers playing the bomber pilot as well, but Sellers declined due to not thinking that he could pull off that many characters. Tell that the Monty Python guys.

Right now the intended pieces are:
The bulk of the pieces:

1''x1'' squares

1''x0.5'' rectangles

Ocassional pieces which allow for more varied detail (ie windows, doors, angled corrugated sheets/whatever):

2''x2'' squares

2''x1'' rectangles

At this stage I probably won't make 0.5'' tall pieces above the 1'' size.

Smaller 0.25'' pieces may be an option, but its finding a use for them and seeing if their castable (which they ought to be). Mind I'm laying out all these pieces without having attempted any test casts yet (I'm just assuming based on past experience that certain things will work or won't).

With the change to smaller pieces and removal of the inserts I was using previously (who wants holes and bits jutting out of the middle of a wall?) I may elect to do what I do with Hirst Arts Molds to give them more integrity. As they don't have anything to attach to other than just glueing two pieces to one another's side I typically attach them to a thin piece of backing card. Based on how my pieces are designed (I'll see later in the week) I may suggest that others do the same just for ease of building, though it would be entirely optional (I just find it makes my life easier when arranging all the little squares).

Possible add on pieces:

* Stairs.
* Triangular bits for angled roofs.
* Roof supports for raised ceilings (ie like a guard tower. A maybe, as the supports may be prone to snapping in the mail. People could just use lengths of balsa wood for this purpose)
* Chimney Roof/Wall pieces (not at this stage as they'd require molds that weren't flat like every other piece and I'm trying to keep things simple)
* Overhangs for doors/windows/just to hang off of walls to cover things (wouldn't be hard to do, but they could have supports, which I refer you to the roof supports for)

And other things... With a kit like the one I have planned I'd be using that as a basis for my own additions. As in say I'd want the building to be raised above the ground. I'd just stick on a few cinder blocks or a rim with a different texture to the bottom and some stairs. Those bits wouldn't be hard to make, but would others prefer if those bits were available along with the rest of these pieces for ease?

Heh, and mind, this is still all theoretical. I could put all this together and find that logistically or economically its a nightmare.

I'll see about having something to show by the end of the week. I have a deadline to meet that I'm behind on (blame the toy soldiers), so I really can't waste time working on this right now (which I have been; silly boy). =/

I still think Sellers did well with the 3 he did do.

When sorting out my book shelves I sifted through the stack of vehicle kits that sit beneath them. There was a pair of Tamiya BA-64s unbuilt there (I love the design), so I supposed that the Chinese Remnants could do with another something zippy to go along with their patrols. For something different though I swapped out the LMG for a flamethrower. Conversely I also had a bunch of stowage to hand, so on that went as well. I suppose that the flamethrower has enough range on it not to set fire to the armour car itself ...hopefully.

Just a WIP shot of the vehicle for now. I've given it a lick of paint since then, but I still need to finish it off (emulating the paint scheme on my other BA-64's not working out). I'm thinking of calling it the Snapper, because well its not quite large enough to be called something like the "Dragon", nah, that'd be for a tank. Just a little snapper instead. =P

So the shacks have been set aside for a bit whilst I paint up this thing and maybe a few other bits. I prefer to have a bit of variety in what I'm making youknow. *Total modelling ADD

That's me completed my deadline on the current stage of my course work. The next one's a month (or something) away, so I should have a bit more free time now. ...Ignoring all the other course work that needs done that is.

Most of these have been sitting about my painting table for a few weeks now. I've not had the time lately to paint anything, but I felt I should hash something out to post.

Chinese Remnants
Snapper(Tamiya 1/48 BA-64b)

The crappily painted Chinese (simplified) characters say: "(The) Red Dragon Rises" -uh, a quote from America Dad.
New Californian Republic
Scout Car (Dinky Daimler Armoured Car)

Something to follow patrols about as they dispense some frontier justice perhaps? Armoured Cars suit skirmish games more than their larger cousins ...and are much quicker to paint. I actually prefer them to tanks in terms of modelling them. The old British gear seems to fit into my idea of what the regular NCR military would be equipped with. I mean not canonically of course (hell how much of the stuff I make here fits into the base, non speculative canon?), rather just stylistically. But how many retro futuristic, boxy scout cars are being manufactured in 28mm scale?

On this one the characters read: "Suck it Caesar!".

Wastelanders
Caravan Truck
Have a pair of blurry pics (woops).

A Russian Ural-375D I think,. Ah anyway, a vehicle for use as just a bit of terrain or some sort of scenario around a caravan. The driver's cab has been reinforced, though unfortunately the rear section is just as is. It wouldn't take much for a raider to hop on the back and start knicking the wares. I probably should have finished working on this one before I painted it (I think there was plans for a plow at the front), but I guess I still have plenty of other toy trucks (albeit of a lower quality) chucking about. This thing's been sitting on my desk for a month now, and I couldn't really be bothered finishing it.

A set of ramshackle fencing that were made to go along with some allotments that I made. Oi fences are awesome!

And an unfinished WIP of another type of car barricade just to show where that pile of Russian cars are going. Youknow, just for a bit more variety. This style I guess would also look less out of place as a standalone piece, rather than as part of a wall.

Those spare wheels from all those cars I bought are also now seeing use as little barricades too. They could also be used as just clutter to go along the sides of buildings perhaps.

Oh, the Brahmin also now has two heads. Still a massive WIP though. ^^

Right. I now have two weeks off college. My deadlines are further off now, so I can see about actually painting stuff. I'd love to start on the robots and Enclave, but distracting myself with other crap's probably going to be an inevitability. ...Pity I keep buying in more bits (the Enclave are currently sitting at the same strength as the NCR, the largest painted faction. Sure barely any of them are actually painted though). I do want to work on more terrain as well. I mean I have plenty of models, but filling out a board with new scenery always seems to please guys at my club. Hmn, next game I may go for a desert board set around a farmstead and a road or something (hey there's a use for those Brahmin).

An Enclave Trooper in Combat Armour (I have another lot in more advanced looking sets) that I was using to test out a paint scheme. Secrets of the Third Reich mini I guess.

Nice work.
I like the fences and the truck. The car on it's side is a nice concept too.

Derelict cars make for decent barricades, as long as they don't still have the fuel in them

Heh, in the Fallout World fuel came at a premium so I'm guessing that those cars would have been long drained even before the War. (Though in the pre-Bethesda days most civilian vehicles were already running off of electricity. ...I suppose an ecological engine doesn't quite go boom like a nuclear reactor though).

Now to paint more terrain. I bought a new hammer (I guess my dad's other ones are lost in a shed somewhere), so I'll be taking that to some classic Soviet cars from the 70s tomorrow. Partly to piss off any enthusiasts of vehicles of that type. Building more barricades I suppose is entirely secondary to that.

And man I need more space. There's a pile of terrain that teetering on top of some boxes right now. ...The pile of vehicles however is looking even less stable. Yeah, my progress is based purely on which pile of crap has the least chance of falling today.

I have a few bits and pieces that I could've finished, but I decided to replay Shadowrun Return's main campaign instead. ...Shame that excuse doesn't work in other areas of my life.

Wastelanders
Wasteland Knight

After finding the remains of a rusting suit of knight's armour, Mick Mundle, a deprived shish kabob salesmen from the Angel's Boneyard, decided to become the people's hero.Naming himself after an ill popular children's snack bar Mundle became Ser Jeremy the Chivalrous (pronounced with a "c" like Chib). Now he wanders the wastes randomly encountering vagabonds and heroes in his odd quest, whilst speaking in his most authentic (cliché) interpretation of the medieval English language (or at least what he could glean from a charred copy of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court).

The source model's probably twenty odd years old. I found it in a toolbox full of ancient roleplaying models. Gas mask's from Maxi Mini and the riot shield and fuel tank were made some Post Apocalyptic Romans, the maker of which I can't remember the name of.

Ok, I'll need to see about taking a hammer to some cars now. I want some more barricades. *Anyone looking for classic Soviet cars from the 70s is allowed to cry a little now FYI.

found a note in the Divide, so it seems America and it's allies were facing both China and Russia as this base commander complained about "Kremlin-Joe" and the Chinese conquering America just because funding for better water treatment was asked for. Sounds much like a very over the top version of cold to hot war Amurica.

The Soviet Union was still communicating with the US up until the War. Though in the media they may have been portrayed as just another lot damn dirt communists, the US was at least still talking to them. I think that they may have served as a kind of middleman between the US and the Chinese. As Fallout is based on the real world I'd imagine that Russian ties with the Chinese soured, but they still maintained an alliance being both communist states.

But you're meaning the terminal in the Water Treatment Plant? The City Treasurer politely asked the base commander to sort out the appalling safety levels there. Of course the commander responded by saying jingositicly along the lines of "who cares about safety protocols when we could be nuking those Reds!?". Having guys like that in charge of the nukes would have meant that if an order came in they'd be all to happy to send the missiles off on their merry way. Actually knowing the facts about the situation wouldn't have mattered much.

How I interpret the Fallout Cold War is that it was America who was the bad guy (not that anyone really had clean hands though). The conflict over fuel was an excuse (who cares about a trickle of oil when everyone's riding electric cars?) that threw in the argument over ideology in to gather more support. It was a cold war that only went hot after America's enemies (or allies) found out about their nasty little eugenics program. The rest of the world didn't want to see the US producing Captain America types, so someone somewhere decided to take action about it.

Well that's what the original writers of the series thought. There's also the idea that it was the US that launched the nukes because they were losing the war with the Chinese. Or the Chinese could have started it because the US had managed to invade their mainland (something that's only corroborated by a Special Forces soldier and propaganda). I just like the take that if all those things which the people back in the 50's wanted to happen in their World of Tomorrow! actually occurred, and was thrown in with the cultural attitudes of the era (taken to the extreme somewhat), it'd create such a hell hole.

Pretty much, The DLC for FO-3 also pointed that to protect itself and regain Alaska, they invade Canada to "protect" Canada as well. Power armored super soldiers.........Now where have we heard that before?????

Hey the US did the same to Mexico. They bought out a large number of the oil companies there, before outright invading it and taking the rest. ...A piece of fluff that to my knowledge wasn't added until after the Iraq war. =P

The US said told the Canadians that they couldn't logistically move their troops into Anchorage without going through Canada. The Canadians (politely of course) told them to go feth themselves. Cue invasion and ooh, the coincidental acquisition of a load of land. Isn't that nice? I'd like to think that the Brits and French weren't too happy about this and were supplying the guerrillas fighters there, but its not been something mentioned in the games yet.

Of course the Chinese had control of a large part of East Asia. Those western aligned countries presumably were being supported up until the Euro-wars, but what little information there is on the matter pretty much says that all the region was taken over by the Chinese in excuse invasions and puppet governments. What I'd like to know though is what happened to countries like Australia/New Zealand, India/Pakistan and even Africa (who in the real world have been receiving a lot of Chinese influence lately). I suppose such parts of the world aren't considered so relevant in a series all about two power houses, but it'd be nice to know.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see what happened or at least read about the effects the war had on other countries. the small communities you doe meet in FO-3 and NV are not that bad, just trying their best to be decent places in the wastes. Tyranny of old US/Enclave allowed such to pop up. such places, likely if their china did work in Africa, then nukes to such places as well as they would be on the hit list. Depending on who they played nice with would depend on what lists they got on. Those who played nice with the FO U.S. would have been on the Chinese hit list. As for Australia and NZ? no idea if they would get nuked or ignored

A few more small pieces of scenery.

Tribal Totems. The banners in the back are from an old Games Workshop Goblin kit. The other pieces came from the same manufacturer of the Post Apocalyptic Roman bits off the Knight. Just little bits of tat to clutter a board up with.

Not an amazing piece of cover, but I suppose it denies line of sight. ...Presumably someone had the foresight to drain the tank before that thing was shot up.

A McDonald's toy based on the movie cars. I picked this up at a market, but I could've sworn I had a couple of these when they originally came out too (my baby cousin probably has them now). That lead based paint certainly holds up doesn't it? ^^

This thing's going to be a bugger to paint. I have another two skips to put together along with this one (bought for £1 each as part of a truck kit, but hell that's cheaper than Ainsty).

There's a shack that needs finishing that I'd like to work on tonight. I gave it a base coat and filled in the primary colours, but couldn't be bothered to finish it at the time. After that I'll see about sifting out more unpainted terrain I suppose (or just be an arse and make more).

Pointless late night (I mean morning) update. What? I don't have a problem.

This I've been meaning to finish for a while. Due to a mess up whilst designing it only the first floor (second for you damn Americans) is accessible. Not quite as horrible to paint as I had expected. I chose to make this one twice the height of the regular shacks just to allow for a bit more variety in what's going on on a table. Sure it could also be used as a bird's nest as well. Hmn, I should have attached a ladder to the outside as well (or would that have been too bent? Go prone on that roof and it'd take a mortar shell to hit you).

The graffiti on this one reads in Chinese (simplified): "Blue Flu" (or at least its supposed to, I suck at calligraphy. ...My best friend asked why the bus I made earlier said Tacos on it, so I guess I'm not that horrible). The big blue man came first, the tie into the Fallout world came later. The Blue Flu's another name for the New Plague, and written in Chinese as a strain of it was intended for use in sterilising their population. See, its not just a random big blue guy (nah just kidding it is).

I have a few more unexploded nukes in the works right now. It'll be Monday though before I can buy some more glue to add some sand to their bases. With those I'll have five of the things. I could make more (I have tons of Kinder Egg capsules), but perhaps I'm already a bit overkill for your average board.

I need to finish off more shacks as I feel that on the clutter end of things there's plenty right now. I've been using collapsed Mordheim style buildings in my games, and those are fine, but I'd like to be able to fill out a table with post-war buildings. That will require moving the pile of loose terrain I have on top of the box the shacks are in however... so ah, maybe I should paint something easier to access first. =)

Excellent work.

Big Blue looks fantastic, and great aestetic on the building in general. I love all your broken cover stuff too, going to have to do some of that.

The markers up there looks really cool also, yet another idea I will be stealing.

Heartily approve of the big blue graff

There's not enough good quality graff on terrain in my opinion, keep it coming

Maybe a separate ladder that could be used on a variety of buildings as per your mood of the day.....

@ Camkierhi

...And yet I didn't go to bed like half eight this morning. Horrible things happen to me on weekends. *I need to be in college by nine tomorrow.

@ Dr H

I wonder whether I should be painting up my other bombs with US markings like I did the first. Hmn... The ones in Fallout 3 were all US made, so perhaps mine should also be. Perhaps the US just happened to sell weapons to other countries, who just happened to nuke them with them? Any pitches for jingoistic slogans to paint on them? "Get some!" is about the extent of my wit. ^^

@ monkeytroll

Tsk, I think that I paint too much graffiti on my terrain. I need to start painting buildings without it as right now it seems like some ruffians have had 200 years to cover everything in it. ...Ah wait they have. Still...

Something which I haven't seen other players of 7Tv do much is allowing models to climb any old surface as long as there's a hand hold. Models still need to pass an agility test or they'll be on their arses, but I prefer my games to err on the Brink side of terrain handling. ...So feasibly I'd expect someone to try and climb that shack with one of their models at some point (then jump off of it and divebomb some hapless mook ...hmn I need to write rules for enemy models breaking your fall).

I'm out of black paint (wtf is with GW Chaos Black drying up?), so I didn't have the chance to base coat any terrain. Glue's also running short too (I must buy a new bottle once a month), so not much new was built either. What I have done today is stick together a few more skips which I should be able to work through briskly. Aside from that I've gotten around to putting paint to my League of Riveters entry (uh... for the last competition). I'll probably half paint the thing and chuck it back beneath the pile that it was sitting under again.

I forgot that I'm going out tonight, so the chances of me finishing anything are slim. To that end here's what's currently being painted.

...Uh make a game of trying to work out what each of those little black things are. =)

From my flgs I picked up two of Reaper Ogres (well actually one of them's more like a two headed Scandinavian Troll). Both are pretty big, so are destined for leadership or Brute positions. This is the two headed one, now short of one head (but not a brain, no those things are just for show ...according to the Troll Hunter ^^). This is just after I repositioned the arms/head and gave him a flail. I imagine the barrel's filled with rocks/concrete/water/some heavy crap. After some greenstuffing he'll be a Nightkin Master though, on behalf of his bearskin outfit.

Take better pictures of white things camera. ¬¬

Dammit I should have beat that barrel up a little.

More blether tomorrow when this crap's actually painted. Well the terrain bits. I'll see about sculpting up the ogres, the Nightkin one at least, this afternoon. However I'm going to have to sift through the bins for some cork to stand in as concrete (why ever would a Super Mutant be carrying concrete? Perhaps at the end of a stick...). Not enough drinkers in this house.

Yeah, some heat at the barrel to add dents can still be done as it is unpainted.

Yep, so many rickety looking added stairs and ladders on taller buildings in Fallout, maybe add it later on? give it that real Post Apocalyptic feel.

I tried to paint her as though she were South Asian. Probably not that noticeable as I've been painting a fair few of my models with tans. Perhaps she's a missionary out of Shady Sands.

Here's some street furniture from Ainsty castings. I'd love if someone made the magazine dispensers and Mojave Express Drop Boxes from New Vegas too (hint hint).

Salt Bins. I just happened to have these spare. I've no idea if they're appropriate to the time period (or hell if there's much use for the things in Utah).

Mail Boxes. A pity that they're solid pieces. I'd have liked it if the drawer was removable and front door could be opened, but that's asking for too much. They're fine as is. =P

Feck, I knew I had to cover up that bit of graffiti on the front of that mailbox. Next time it turns up it'll have Animal from Sesame Street on it or something.

I started work on a second Brahmin. They'll both be pack brahmins as I feel that they'd be more use in games that way. The bits for the packs are collected, its just finishing off the base Brahmin models first. To go along with them I've made a trough from a fuel barrel. I don't have any of that fancy water effects resin though, so unfortunately these Brahmin are going to stay parched.

Hmn, I should find a bathtub and use that as a trough as well. Whilst I'm on the subject of water features I have plans for using a toilet as a public water source as well. *$2 a drink

The nukes I'll leave for another post. I'd like to put together some rad pools to go along with them, but failing that I just can't be arsed finishing them.

Before I base and paint these, here's three of the shacks that I'll be painting soon. I have another six after these which can start on after though. The rest of the shacks need a bit more detailing, though that shouldn't take too long. ...Actually starting any of that is what's going to take a while.

The first two shacks don't have interiors, but the last one does. Its supposed to be a kind of corner shop, though I've left the interior sparse bar the odd shelving unit for ease of model placement. I need to see how decent my printer is so I can print off some posters to fill those signs with. *Youknow I have a folder with over two hundred Fallout relevant posters in it (ie actual in universe ones such as adverts for Stimpaks, and other cool things like retro versions modern film posters. The retro posters for Fallout games though are the best).

I need to work through my backlog of terrain some more. Saying that I bought in some more bits, including some fencing (...I have a fetish for that stuff apparently), more cars and shipping boxes. At least I now have plasticard again, so I can bring myself to basing the shacks soonish. I'll try and push aside painting any figures until I've made a dent in the terrain. That said there's an NCR Veteran Ranger (something like my fourth attempt at one. Damn, I manage the Patrol Ranger first go, but keep screwing the veteran up) sitting wanting to be finished on my desk right now.

I have a game of 7Zombie Tv coming up too, so I need to dig out my zombies to see if they need a touch up. If they don't (meh they're zombies), then I'll be going back to finding bits of scenery to paint. Yes buildings like the above instead of little bits. My boards are all ready an obstacle course enough (if I can see the wood underneath then that table hasn't enough cover on it!). =P

Out of the black things I like the black thing best, though the black thing was pretty cool too, and the black thing inside the grey thing as awesome

Barrels - damn, I knew there was something I'd forget at Salute - those mouldable barrels from Zinge. had them on the brain when I first went there, but went to get more funds before buying anything and forget by then

The shacks are looking good, especially the corner shop, and some nice street furniture too.

Benches, they do have them in vegas for sure, as well as bus stops with roofs over them!

@monkeytroll

I have so many barrels from buying Tamiya vehicle stowage kits on the cheap (I picked up a stack of them for £4 at the start of the month). A barrel's a barrel, so its better to just trawl second hand sellers for them than buy new fancy ones with hyper detailed plugs. ^^'

@shasolenzabi

Heh, dammit man there's only so much I can bother myself to build! If my interest holds I may build some road sections in future which I could line with little details like though. With my terrain I'm aiming more for post-war settlements and back-o-beyond locations like gas stations (which btw I actually built the Poseidon gas station from NV, but sold it), farms, trailer parks and drive in cinemas. Poke me enough and I'll build something though. =)

I had a go at some posters. Now I thought that these would be a lot more complex than they turned out to be to glue on. My current glue's pretty strong, but it didn't leave any marks on the paper until I applied some ink to it. The glue markings actually left an all right weathering effect on the paper after the ink was applied.

The posters that I printed out were a little too big (I misjudge just how large a sheet of A4 is). These are the smaller ones applied to some of my older terrain. Overall I'm happy how they turned out though.

Now to build more terrain so I actually have stuff to plaster those to. =)

Nice where do you get such wonderful microposters?

Deviantart mostly (search Fallout posters/ retro posters/etc). The ones on the fences are from the games themselves though (the Cat's Paw one's taken from the original games) which I stripped from their texture files when I had them installed. The "Chinese American Food" one's from Bioshock though I think. I just printed them out on a regular sheet of paper and glued them on no trouble.

Hey if anyone's wanting any of those posters I can see about sticking them in a google doc or something.

Nah, it's not the detail on the Zinge barrels that's impressive. Drop 'em in hot water and you can mould them to shape...twisted and bent......crushed under treads with tread marks etc. Re-usable too.
