1. If you buy Psybolt ammo, do you think you should be able to designate if you are using psybolt ammo or regular ammo on an eligible weapon each time you fire that weapon? For example: You move your razorback at combat speed; during shooting you choose to use normal ammo on a storm bolter thus keeping it as a defensive weapon (S4) while using psybolt ammo on an assault cannon (S7). Since you choose which weapon(s) you will use (when you have a choice), you should be able to choose your ammo too. 2. Isn't having Digital Weapons as an option on the Brotherhood Champion moot as they have the Anointed Blade as wargear? Thoughts? I am leaving my original post above, but am changing my desire of this post. I would like feedback on why/why not to have an erratum/FAQed for Psybolt Ammuntion. I've listed a couple of suggested sentences that can be added to the end of the Psybolt Ammunition entry: Suggested erratum to Psybolt Ammunition: add these sentences to the end. Psybolt ammunition is an additional type of ammunition carried by the model. Therefore, during each firing phase, the model may choose not to use Psybolt ammunition for any weapon (as listed above), and use the standard strength ammunition for that weapon. Thus, a player moving a rhino at combat speed, chooses to fire it's assault cannon using Psybolt ammunition (Strength 7); and all defensive weapons: the player chooses to fire a pintle mounted storm bolter with standard strength ammunition (Strength 4) which would allow it to be fired as a defensive weapon. Rationale: a. 40k has models that carry and fire different types of ammunition. b. Currently, players specify the type of ammunition they are using during each firing phase. c. Players choose the type of ammunition that is fired for tactical advantages. d. Even the earliest real tanks carried different types of ammo: HE, AP, Smoke. And troops weapons too. But that was 1.4K. I believe the suggested erratum is consistent with all the current rules. It also is consistent with the fluff on Psybolt Ammunition which states it is difficult to produce. Additionally, a player may not want Psybolt ammunition on all that model's weapons and shouldn't be forced to use it. This erratum allows flexibility (which is crucial in this game) versus the all or nothing.

Thoughts?
1. No, it's not an option. You upgrade your weapons and they have the Psybolt bonus. You can't "turn it off" because the rules don't tell you you can.
2. Yes, Digi-weapons on a Bro-Champ is completely redundant.

Thanks...I agree I can't find a reference addressing this directly. However, it is addressed indirectly because there are models that carry different types of ammo (missile launchers for example). With these models, you choose which type of ammo they fire each turn. I address this because when new rules are added there may be other rules effected which were not considered. IMHO, I would contend that you are adding psybolt ammo (ammo clips, ammo belts) as an ammo option to your model just as other models currently do.

Yes, but missile launchers specifically allow you to choose. There's no such option with that upgrade.
As a counter example: you can always choose not to fire particular weapons in a squad, but if a model does shoot, it must always fire at full effect.

Brian - nothing says you retain the option to fire with non-psybolt ammo, so you cannot do so.

Nope. All or nothing with psybolt ammo. No downgrading that weapon just because you want to be able to shoot with it as a "defensive" weapon (if you want that, then DON'T buy the upgrade.).
Digi weapons on a bro-champ are redundant.
