I figured it would be easier to start a blog for my orks rather than having my various projects spread all out in multiple threads, so here is the start of A Connecticut Waaagh.
I rather enjoy orks because as a modeler you have a lot of freedom to experiment.
I also like the comical and haphazard mix of the Orks, sort of that "Mad Max meets the 41st Millenium" vibe.
With my Orks I am going for a sort of gritty, ramshackle look, with sort of a "comic book" aesthetic as far as painting. Not sure if i always pull it off, but that is my vision.
Here are a few past projects to give you an idea of the "look" I'm going for:
Some kit-bashed trukks/gun trukks:
A kit-bashed warbuggy:
On the painting side of things here are a few samples (I'm no master painter, I shoot for table-top standard and the "three-foot rule" ):
I hope to update with progress on my models and various new Orky projects as they happen...
C&C welcome.

Ok, so the project that I have been working on this weekend was my kit-bashed Mekka-Dread for the Dread Mob list (from IA:8) I am planning to field in an upcoming game.
I much prefer the "classic' look when it comes to Ork walkers, and so wanted my mega-dreads to look more like "mini-stompas" rather then be such a jump away in design like the FW ones...
Here it it on the right next to the kit-bashed Mega-Dread I did:
It is still very WIP: no legs/feet yet, needs more rivets and plating etc. but it is coming along.
I need to figure out how to represent the "fixin klaws", etc. The coil over the left shoulder is the start of a KFF.
I really love that FW Big Zzappa...
And Yes, it surely has a cup holder inside for the squig juice...
C&C welcome.

i would definitely check out IA:8, it is full of Orky goodness.
The Dread Mob army list in it allows you to take Mega-Dreads as Heavy Support and has a "Mekka-Dread" HQ choice which represents a Big Mek in his own kustomized Mega-dread, etc.

In an effort to get all my finished pieces up in this blog, here is my Kit-based Mega-armour Warboss and one of the older metal Nobz that I really like:
Some WIP: Nobz mob and Warboss:
Still WIP as I just started blocking out colors, etc. The iron gob on the Warboss is from the Killa Kan kit, I thought it added some brutality to his look. The klaw is from one of the plastic Warmachine Khador Warjack kits from Privateer Press.

This update isn't for my Drad Mob, but for my Speed Freaks.
Some shots of my "counts as" Wazzdakka:
just noticed looking at the pics that I forgot to put a bit on the left front fork to hide that ugle area I filed.

Wow these are great. I especially like the dirty look you get with the brown undercoat. Gives them a warmer feel than a black undercoat too.

I do a two stage primer basecoat with my ork models:
1. First i prime models with Rustoleum flat balck ultra-coverage primer
2. Once they are dry I do a lighter covering of Rustoleum "red" ultra-coverage primer (which is actually a more "rusty brownish" color over the black)
The second step leaves a little shading in low areas and you get a little depth to the base coat.
