If all goes to plan, I am building a Boromir... Rather than pay the prices Ebay wants for the banner-toting verion, I am making my own from a repurposed MT banner bearer and archer, and plenty of GS. Early inspection reveals the press-moulded head I made actually looks quite decent, so if that dries alright then it's full steam ahead on Boromiring-up the mini.

I also need to base and photograph the Rebs I painted the other day, but as I'm running low on basing sand and primer I'nm trying to focus on converting until I can get some more.

I'm in a similar place but with spray sealer. It's on order and should be arriving eventually... But I've been slow lately anyway.

Gotta get some models painted today, likely zombies.

In theory, Boromir is now done. The sculpting is finished, the banner is in his hand and now all I need to do is get him to stand up (metal 1" square banner on plastic figure=much instability. Who knew? ). Once that's done, I'll burn the last of the primer on getting him ready.

Might start working on a mounted version as well; I have a metal rider left over from the original conversion, which would just need a new head and a cape (and the wonder of press-moulding means I can have unlimited Sean Bean heads!)

What size are you looking for (if you haven't found one since posting)? I have a number of cigar boxes of various sizes, both in solid cedar and cedar-lined carboard (decorated, of course - don't recall the brand, though). Would be happy to ship one out, if you could use it.

[edit:] Oh, and the hobby room reclamation is progressing. Slowly, thanks to work (and my own sloth, but we'll pretend that work is the primary barrier ), but still progressing. Amazing what a few extra square feet of carpet can do for a room - I'm accessing shelves I've barely been able to touch for months. Looking to do a little bit more today (before work, again), before a household project for the wife takes over.

Think I have one or two that would fit the bill. If your Ebay haul doesn't do the job (or you find another project that needs one), shoot me a PM. Don't have any plans to toss them and all of my smokes go in the humidor, so they'll likely stick around for a while.

Trying to paint eyes, think I'm going to give up on having any part of the eyes be white. Because I don't want any more bug-eyed cartoon guys in my army.

I mean, one or two is ok.

Are the eyes sculpted as a blank sphere? Or do the eyes have the iris and pupils sculpted into them.

If the former, then painting the whites is done by using at least a 3O brush, and making two horizontal strokes of the brush (left-right, or right-left), one above the other.

Most people make the mistake of trying to "dot" the whites of the eye, which would work is eyes were round. But they aren't, they are almond, elongated shapes.

After you have got the white stripes painted (doesn't matter if you have an unpainted gap in the middle), then pick a color, and do two vertical striped right down the middle of the eye (this is the iris).

For the pupil, a TINY black dot, and then a tinier white dot in the upper right/left for the highlight.

Then.... You take a finer brush and do a very dark (either very dark brown or black, depending upon how fine a line you can get) line just below and above the eye (eyelashes).

Most people think themselves unable to be able to work in that fine a detail.... But I have taught five yr-olds how to do this, so that they can paint a very realistic eye after their third or fourth attempt.

As for eyes with the iris and pupil sculpted in.... I have no clue, as every sculptor who does those, does them differently, and I tend to avoid those sculptors.

With Boromir done (pics incoming this evening), I'm now building a second rank of Osgiliath Veterans to be led by him. Having inventoried my Gondor stuff I realised I could push to 1000 points (big for LotR) without buying anything else, so that is a new goal. As for how fast I can get it done, that largely depends on whether or not I get distracted in the mean time (and Dwarves and Orcs keep demanding I buy and paint more of them!)

Today I'm kicking myself for buying the KoW starter set. That's 99 minis and two war machines to add to my TO PAINT collection...

To be fair though, it was only £29.99! That's less than 30p a mini!

Painting a pirate crew, and starting to paint up and read the Shadows of Brimstone sets.

This game is amazing. The best parts of Space Hulk, and skirmish gaming combined. They really have a winner with this game.

(Wait till you add in your own figures/ monsters....)

Wishing my spray sealer would arrive, even though it's technically too cold to probably really use it... I would anyway. The current can has to be out, I primed 2-3 minis after it should have been out. It's a champ but there's no way I can get 7 more out of it, the only sound/feel that comes out of it is the agitator rolling around, doesn't even feel like it has dregs left.

May try to paint some more models if I can tear myself away from the prophesy of pendor mount and blade mod.

Sounds like the first time I used a TIE Phantom myself. I was playing Star Wars last night myself. My XXXZ based squadron managed to take down a decimator in 2 rounds of fire. Only damage they took from the ship was when the decimator rammed my Z-95 headhunter.

The Decimator sounds like it's rock hard, but I threw some dice at mine once I unpacked it and quickly discovered that it's a *lot* easier to bring down that I would have thought. Makes one contemplate the more defensively oriented pilot and that Ys.... one crew it comes with. +1 agility after shields go down and an evade token or something? It's really a pretty maneuverable ship for it's size, I think it could be used a lot like a falcon and just sort of drive around people shooting at them. There's an *option to ram it down the opponent's throat but you have to really plan for that I think.

Did manage to get my 7 zombies sealed and now they've got BftBG and bases so they're done. 13 total done.

See? 13 whole zombies done now, just in case you thought I was fibbing.

It was Tuesday, so gaming night. Not that I was playing anything, but rather just dropping off some stuff and arranging something for next week. Ah, but I did realise that I hadn't made everything I would drop off tonight just as I was about to leave. Cue having to make twenty four window shutters for some quonset huts in the space of half an hour. They weren't of the best quality, still it seemed like they were appreciated.

Ah, beyond that chatting with the guy I was giving stuff to makes me want to put together some more modern models. I'm eyeing up the Empress site's Russian models right now and considering picking some up for a few games (my regular Stalker models are good enough for your generic Eastern European fighters). Typically I'm disposed to zombie and post apocalyptic games, so I don't know how well I'd manage with some uniform looking moderns (that said its hardly like soldiers go about wearing identical kit, let least if they're from non-standard units).

Tonight I will be finishing the conversion, assembly and priming of my fellblade/glaive tank. I bought a Glaive because I like the turret more, but had to hack away at it to add the demolisher cannon because it doesn't have one modeled like the Fellblade does.

I fInished up another point of Warriors for my Welsh warband in Saga, and prepped the last two points for spraying on the base coat.

I also started on a cheap, cardboard-based terrain project to build ruins for my friend, who still has his 40k models from when we started gaming. We had a game this past weekend that took place on boxes and around 6-pack cartons (you'll be able to see on my blog come noon EST on Wednesday), and I finally decided to try building something a little more functional and better looking.

Got outbid on Ebay, losing a Rogue Trader Limited Edition #10 model by 2.50$. I was gonna use it a surprise on my thread, and as a vet Sgt in my army. Guess I will find another to bid on or put a ad up for it and some RT marine bits in the swap shop.

Temporarily storing models and scratchbuilds in the closest, as I am rehabilitating a previously abused and abandoned cat.

Got a pair of Gandalfs painted up yesterday, foot and mounted, but one might need cleaning up. Oddly enough, they were painted at the same time, using the same paints/method, and one looks great, the other a bit rubbish!?

As today I've done a deal for some more Orcs and Ringwraiths it's now full speed ahead with the Mordor army, so Gothmog and Shagrat are now on deck awaiting basing.
