Long ago, in a place, known today as Callidae, there was only war.

Callidae was a forge-world, and a industrious one at that. There were no local space marines, and this world was on the fringe of imperial space. The planet was soon engulfed by warp storms, and all communications were lost. Then, as if by miracle, the planetary defense on Callidae scanned something entering the atmosphere.

"Sir, object heading for the kazandu plains! It is mostly composed of meteor and... sir, you need to see this!"

Lord Commissar Tlaz walked over to the viewscreen, where he witnessed something insane. There was something coming hurtling down onto this world. It appeared to be a massive meteor, until they noticed the spaceship parts seemingly melted into the rocks.

"Sir, i'm detecting up to 10 bio-signs."

Lord Commissar Tlaz decided his next move in an instant. "Send a recovery team. See if they can find any weapons or survivors. let them take two chimeras, and a cargo carrier"...

When the team reached the hulk, they encountered something more than anyone had bargained for. and when they left, they brought back a few extra chromosomes and a few more passengers.
