I think the Kastelans are about the size I expected, they are not especially bulky though. I have got my first one done though, I am happy with it. Is the battle damage alright? I think i ill continue it on my remaining robots.

Until the next time.

Awesome! The chipped areas look good, all I'd do is maybe darken the metal just a tad.

Yeah they look great. I think the thing is about 2x 28mm model height? Dreads are almost that tall, the trick is nothing looks taller than a straight level horizontal view, but we rarely get those unless testing models eye view Los.

It looks almost like a big Space Marine. The Brass/Purple and steel go very well together on this guy as well. I like what you've done with him, but I'd also go with darkening the metal areas a little. Maybe a touch of thinned black and/or "tin bitz" or the equivalent to make it a bit more subtle and burnt.

A nice bit of progress over the past few days. So firstly I completed the Kastelan's and Datasmith:

I have also finished my first Dragoon:

And have also done 80% of my Sicarian infiltrator unit:

And an army shot:

Phew.

Blimey, feels like an age since I have updated this. I have been on a bit of a jaunt up and down the country watching my favourite band so have basically eat and drank too much and battered the bank account.

But there has been progress, more Ad Mech/Mechanicus to come. I have also recently been reading a lot about Blood Angels and really want to start painting them, my BA army consists of the following painted models :

Dante
Fragioso Dreadnought
2 Assault Terminators.

That would be an...interesting Unbound list. The release of The new Space Marine and Dark Angels codexes (codeses??) have seen BA players up in arms about the army (and there are a lot of valid points) but I am determined to make it work. With Drop Pods and Jump packs.

I have a bit of catching up to do on my P&M blog reading so will soon be looking into all my favourite blogs (any odds on Paradigm having painted 100 minis in the past 3 weeks? ). So I hope to hear from you all soon.

I think BA can definitely still work, especially at a more casual level. SM/DA have more that they can exploit to build gimmicky/tricky/'cheesey' lists, but on the whole most units are comparable across the two. No, we can't quite bring 10 free transports, but that's likely one hell of a boring list anyway, and leaving stuff like that aside it's pretty level. I doubt anyone will have any problems playing BA outside of tournaments even with the new SM book out there.

Not quite 100 minis, but I did pass the 365 and 400 milestones recently!

I think the way to go is to concentrate on the units unique to Blood Angels with a smattering of other things.

To that end Death Company, Sanguiary Guard, Pod Fragioso's and the like.

The one thing I wont be doing is minimising on troops, a Marine army of any variety is not right without at least two 10 man tactical squads.

So have completed a few miniatures over the weekend.

Firstly we have my Tech Priest Dominus replete with Pimp Cane and Pimp Hat, I am quite happy with how he turned out but the robes seem a bit off to me. I just cannot quite put my finger on why:

Also got my first Kataphron Servitor Destroyer done, armed with heavy Grav Cannon:

Finally I have also started to re-visit my Blood Angels and went with a whole 35pt drop pod, I skimped on the interior but it should be fine for the tabletop. Maybe I need to add some transfers? I am not sure on what markings are needed though.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, he's smashing! The robes look good to me, but maybe some simple freehand (a cog pattern around the base or something) would really take it above and beyond!

Yeah the new mechanicus stuff is excellent as we've come to expect from you

The drop pod is great too. The weathering isn't over-the top but it works and appears to be in appropriate places which is always a plus. Plus there's an interior haven't gotten around to doing the interior for any of mine.

@Paradigm: I am THE WORST at freehand but I may give it a go. Hopefully some form of inspiration will visit me soon.

@Grim: The temptation to just glue the doors shut was strong

Aren't there some cog transfers from the Skitarii kit you can use for the trim on the robes/base?

Really liking the drop pod paint job- nice work! Looks suitably weathered/battered

The doors are ignored in game and I don't think you're supposed to be able to draw line of sight through models anyway even if they do have holes in them, right? Seems fair

I do actually have another drop pod to build, so I may well just glue the doors shut on that one. Also how in the hell is a Dreadnought meant to fit in (and get out of) a drop pod? I does not seem physically possible.

I have undercoated my Stormraven today so I may well continue my Blood Angels "paint anything but troops" tradition. I also noticed that I glued the fin on the tail the wrong way round, luckily it does not look too out of place.

They make a forge world drop pod that specifically addresses that issue... however I think they get special rules that were kind of what? and such. Plus forgeworld is expensive.

Woah, that Dread Drop Pod is massive. I "dread" to think of the cost.

Have made a little progress today, finished my Death Company Dreadnought/possibly Cassor The Damned. One of those "the photos look rough but it must be the light" type jobs here. He is not amazing but I am more than happy to say he is done. I do not want to think about painting Death Company Marines though, painting black is such a chore.

On a brighter note I have also completed one of the most controversial miniatures of our time, a Stormcast Eternal Liberator from the new "Age of Sigmar" game. This came free with this weeks White Dwarf.I am happy with how he turned out, very easy to paint too:

Adios.

@Paradigm: Yup GW Coventry sold out of 50 copies within 4 hours of opening, mental really. I assume that some bought multiple copies for army building, or ebaying...nearly £12 WTF?

@AOV Both probably. I really like the idea of an Elf alliance for the Order of good think. OR maybe just Dark Elves on round bases with WOTR movement trays (or at least the trays available from other retailers).

Yeah, EBay is odd like that! I'd like to think no one would really spend 5x the price of the magazine for a mini that'll be on general release in a week, but you never know!

Elf alliance? Don't tempt me! Between AoS, KoW and the upcoming Dragon Rampant I'm very close to planning a Mantic undead army for the 3 systems, but I do keep looking at the GW elf stuff. Crappy core troop minis always put me off continuing my HE army, but if I could find an excuse to get some WE Eternal Guard or some White Lions without needing a ton of Spearmen or Archers I might just have to!

I dread to think of the cost of non-starter Eternals, but the halberd and archer ones from the video look really, really nice too!
