Subject: Halo thread - New pics of Covenant Supercarrier (custom made by Spartan, not a future release pg13)
To be clear, I'm still all about this was just pointing folks to the best deal . I'm getting two boxes and the fact that that basically equals a full size / 2000 point game is pretty sweet!
Is there any word on when the MAC gun would be released, since there are a lot of pics of it (as well as the larger multibase ships shown for each faction)?

Watched a video of gameplay today on BOLS and it seems like a ton of dice rolling and re rolling and bleh. Maybe just me, ill be more interested in ground battles for sure (space fights seem dumb to me)
For fighters just do squadron cards with three-five long swords or equivalent ships.

(P.S. Bungie should fire the artist responsible for the Broadsword, that is an awful design. Has none of the iconic shape of the Longsword or the faux aerodynamic shape of the Saber)
Heh the Broadsword design wasn't Bungie, it's 343i - the new franchise developers. I mentioned earlier in the thread they really can't replicate Halo's style.

Gameplay on BOLS you say? I'll have to peek at that tonight. The only one I found previously was in German and my language skills are very rusty this far out from high school.

I've heard several people mention this gameplay video on BoLS but I can't seem to find it. Am I just missing something?
@Kavik would you care to link to it please? Also, aren't most TTWG just rolling buckets of dice & re-rolling? I mean, that's 40k in a nutshell & I'd think a 15mm wargame would be just as bad since it's unit vs unit action.

It is indeed 15mm based off everything we know currently

I haven't heard anything specific about a release date for the MAC platforms, which is sad because the MAC rules are amazing, they can actually apply vulnerable counters (a huge deal in the game) when '6' are cumulatively fired at the same element by the same battlegroup (light MACs carried by Epoch and Frigate Elements count for 1, Heavy MACs carried by Marathon Elements count for 2, and Super MACs count for 3! Super MACs are carried by platforms)

I haven't seen the BoLS video to link as of yet, but I have got the link to the other one mentioned:
To everyone else, are there any Dakka goers that are at GenCon and can get some pics of the Ground Combat Game? I will love you forever.

It's that last point that really has me excited
Automatically Appended Next Post: In addition to this, with the game now being out, what do you guys think of adding a UNSC and Covenant ranking track? Probably shouldn't have it cluttering up the thread, but I'm happy to PM suggestions back and forth and then we can propose it in nuts and bolts.

I can help out with the ranking. If it matters, I've made one up in the past for the Robotech Tactics game so have a little bit of experience. Feel free to PM me.

Can do, I've got uni today but shall PM tonight, glad to have you on board mate :-)
Automatically Appended Next Post: I went to start the campaign, having played a few full (small) games and got all excited. Did anyone else notice that in scenario 1, it lists 3 UNSC Paris Frigate Elements in line formation (not Arrowhead or Trident) which is a Covenant Formation. I'm guessing that seeing as the Line Formation is the specialist version of the Covenant Corvettes, they meant in Trident formation.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I haven't explicitly stated this yet, but Commander Keyes and Cortana were both seen at Salute, and that likely means a bust of them will be released (given that lesser known characters have been given detailed busts, it most certainly stands to reason to my mind!)
Here's hoping we can get busts of Hero units, I'd love a Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck bust

So with those special character cards, do you only get to use a single one with your fleet I assume? Or can you use Keyes and Cortana in the same fleet as long as you pay the points?

Tyran has the right of it, you may use as many character cards as are allowed by points (1 Hero per 1000 pts for the UNSC, 1 Hero per 1250 points of Covenant), however, as far as I can tell, you are only allowed 1 Fleet Commander, which is actually mandatory. There are some generic Fleet Commanders that are not named, but 1 must be purchased for a fleet to be legal. I'm sure there will be greater discussion and broadening of this aspect as more commanders become available. Also, if it wasn't easy enough to figure, but the Arbiter is confirmed as a future character in the rulebook

Which one? Arbiter is a title, not a name and there have already been 3-4 in the war against Humanity.

Haha, good point, one I know well. I thought I was bypassing the confusion of saying Thel 'Vadamee by saying the Arbiter. Figured a lot of people in the thread/lurking might not be so into Halo as to remember his name. Apologies for my lack of specificity

He is probably not even going to be referenced as the Arbiter in the game, as his period as the Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice is probably far more important for this game.

I spoke with Spartan Neil and Ken (a representative of 343i) at the Spartan games booth. I was told that the second wave of ships (plastic) is scheduled for a holiday release (with the usual caveats about plastic manufacturing and schedules). It will include the Human heavy-heavy cruisers, MAC platforms and new frigates and the covenant bio-science ships, small escorts and fleet carrier (in resin). There was also mention of a much larger Terran carrier which will come out next spring.

From the forum, dice sides are Skull, Circle, 1 explosion, 2 explosion. Skull is a critical miss, and can't be re-rolled. Circle is a miss. 1s are hits, and 2s are 2 hits and allow you to re-roll Circles. So you can get lucky and hit with the full amount of dice you rolled, but no run-away chains of explosive dice. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong! But it's been stated in multiple interviews that the game definitely doesn't have the standard Spartan exploding dice.)

They sold out at the con (not sure if just for today or what) in the first five minutes this morning. They probably jumped the price so they could take full price pre-orders at the con.

This or Dropfleet...?!?
I'm having the same problem! Both have ground/fleet games that I'm interested in.
I suppose the question - barring mechanics - is whether or not you want a game with 4 factions (DZC/DFC) or will you be happy with just two factions (Halo Fleet Combat and Halo Foot Combat) with perhaps minor variations within?
