I'm new to 40k but I'm thinking of going to a tournament with some friends to get some experience and ideas

I was thinking...................

Hive Tyrant - Leading the pack from the back
Leech Essence, Paroxysm
Scything talons
Heavy venom cannon
Hive commander
Regeneration
Armoured shell
280

Tervigon - At the back of the pack beefing up the horde
Catalyst
Adrenal glands
Toxin sacks
Regeneration
225

Genestealers x9 - Reserve, Outflank or through Trygon's tunnel maybe infiltrate
Broodlord upgrade
Implant attack
Scything talons
Adrenal glands
232

Genestealers x9 - Reserve, Outflank or through Trygon's tunnel maybe infiltrate
Broodlord upgrade
Implant attack
Scything talons
Adrenal glands
232

Termagants x10 - Front of the pack
Devourers
100

Hive guard x3 - Behind hard cover doing damage!
- to mask the cost

Trygon - Pop up and destroy big heavy suckers, Pave the way for genestealers to follow =D
Prime upgrade
Regeneration
265

The Doom of Malan'tai - Dropped near troops to maximise the power!!!
Mycetic spore
Twin-linked death spitter
140

Biovores x2 - At the the back raining hell
- to mask the cost

Spore mines x3 - dropped in at the start to better my position
- to mask the cost

Total = 1744

To my noob brain it seems I have all bases covered what do you think?

Input, I need input!

I would put adrenal glands on your trygon because he is only initiative 4.I would put Lash Whip+Bonesword on the Hive Tyrant. It's free and you make all enemy modelsin base contact initiative 1. Nice to see someone using 2 Biovores. Hope this helps.

Yeah lash whip and bone swords are a better idea but the talons look so much better. Might have to put the sword and whip on though! Maybe add implant attack to him???

The adrenal glands for trygon would be better

Was going to go for 3 Biovores but ran out of points =P

Thanks for the advice.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Would it be worth dropping one of my genestealers to trade for implant attack for the hive tyrant and adrenal glands for trygon and finish with 1750 points?

Or shall I drop the spore mines and end with 1739?

Or just keep it the same?

I would drop the spore mines for the upgrades. I've only had good use of spore mines if I have 12-18. If there is enough points maybe give the Tervigon Onslaught(I have found it useful).

Ok how about this...

If I get rid of the spore mines and take away implant attack from one of my broodlords I will have 51 points to spend.
So give trygon adrenal glands, hive tyrant implant attack and whip and sword, give tervigon onslaught and 1 extra termagant to the 10 I have already.

Leaves me with 1749

Looks good. Will try this army on my mates DE army. Now I feel my 4th ever game of 40k should be a victory and not a another loss!!!

Thanks for your help sir

Drop the regeneration upgrades. They are too expensive and never work when you need them to. Drop armored shell on the tyrant, give him at least 1 tyrant guard so he can get cover from termagants. Drop implant attack off the broodlord; it's not worth it. Also drop scything talons and adrenal glands and take toxin sacs instead. Toxin sacs are the way to go unless you are going to be dealing with AV14 and are in desperate need of units to his it.

The main thing with genestealers is that you DO NOT want to wipe the unit you assault on your turn. Ideally, they will only have a few models left in their unit and they stay locked with you till the opponents assault phase, then you wipe them. Too many upgrades on your stealers means you will kill them too fast.

Try to add a second tervigon. 2 is the magic number. Most will agree. I always have the best luck spawning with 2.

Biovores are good for killing hordes but I haven't seen a horde for a while. At least not in my area. You'd probably be better off putting the points toward that second tervigon.

I have been a nid player for a while and I have played a ton of lists with them. I would say that in this gaming climate, even more so than other armies, you have to really figure out what works for you and do what Nids do best and adapt to the enemies around you.

I also play DE and straight up, DE is one of the toughest opponents for Nids. So good luck. The best thing to do for Nids though is to ignore anything that doesn't seem like a good idea and keep playing till you figure out the right formula.

This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions twists all our arms collectively, but if sweetness can win, and it can, then I'll still be here tomorrow to high-five you yesterday, my friend.

Tunneling Trygon

Agree on dropping the regen, giving AG to the trygon, drop implant and armoured shell on the tryant. I would also run those stealers with toxin sacs and no other upgrades.

I would also lose the spore mines and give the tyrant a tryrant guard. Tyrant I also think is better with two T/L devourers due to his woeful BS.

With points saved I would add another hive guard, so running 2 broods of 2.

Trygon tunnel is not a use for stealers who can outflank anyway and start off infiltrated on the board.

I would march the trygon up behind the tervigon and not DS it at all. Only DS unit is then the Doom, so drop the hive commander to save points as you wan't to have time to crack all the transports before it drops.

On the gants, either run them cheap as 50 points for a 10 strong brood or if devourers knock them up to a 20 strong brood for 60 shots of goodness.

Yeah I guess that all makes sense. I will probably keep the hive tyrant beef in combat because my mate who ive played the most uses DE and his lord always messes me up with his instant kill!

Can save many points dropping Regeneration and I have noticed it never really helps. Also weakening the broodlord/genestealers is a sickening thought but it makes sense as well

I will probably keep the biovores for a while as ive only just bought them and their range is epic!!!

Think I will get another Hive guard and some tyrant guards makes more sense still

Your advice is greatly appreciated!!!

@Ataraxia, I don't think he should get rid of adrenal glands because if he goes after a unit of marines because he goes from wounding on a 2+ to wounding on a 4+ with re-roll.

I also agree that DE is a bad opponent for nids. I almost always have trouble with them.

Urgh, I've just been list building again and noticed something in the codex that I've completely overlooked:

The Tervigon entry states "Take one of the following: -Scything talons
-Crushing claws"

This doesn't sound optional, and would make the points cost of your Terv 230. I know it's not much but this codex doesn't half keep kicking me in the nuts, can anyone confirm?

Nope ignore me, I've ignored the heading of 'OPTIONS'. Optional costs are completely optional so keep it at that price.

Check that Wounding number.

Also, the reroll gives you a chance for more rends, which is what you need, especially against marines and units with FnP. Toxin Sacs make sure you hit just hard enough. Wiping the unit you assault with stealers first round just means you are going to get shot to pieces and they aren't going to earn their worth. Adrenal glands just give you a one-turn bonus that might get you more wounds overall, but you won't get as many rends. Toxin Sacs keeps the rends happening so when your opponent sends in other unit to back up the unit you assaulted, you are still able to make kill efficiently.

Toxin Sacs are the way to go.

Haha I hope so

Thinking of entering the tournament but even if I dont my mate uses DE and two of my other mates have been playing for over a decade and have a few armys each!!

Only been playing 40k for about a month.

Ive been reading the codex loads and have been spending loads of money(£240 so far) just to try not to get squished(as I have every time ive played!)

As my experence grows I feel more confident about my bugs =D
