I recently picked up a copy of a promotional magazine for the upcoming game, 'warhammer 40000: Space Marine' at my local games workshop and on the center pages there is a breakdown of the physiology of a space marine.
Height: 7"2
Weight: 700lbs or 50 stone in power armour.

Along with those it also had descriptions of the other modifications space marines undergo such as the insertion of the progenoud glands and the catalepsean node in the brain.
Several other modifications are also detailed and if anybody would like to know more of them then I would be happy to put the details up.

I thought I would share thise with the Dakka community.

Bede.

A perfectly average Space Marine then, given that he falls almost exactly in the middle of the numbers given by Jes.

As power armour was mentioned being about 250 lbs heavy, I suppose this means he'd be ~450 lbs (about 205 kg) naked?

Thanks for sharing! Nice to see that the designers were sticking to studio material in that regard.

UGH! Not this argument again... Next thing we know, grey knights are going to be falling to Chaos.

Space Marines are measured in the height of plot. If THQ can only afford the budget for a 7ft tall marine, then the plot demands it, if Jes only has the clay to scale one to 7 or 8 feet, then its that tall...

It's not an argument...
I'm sure this magazing will be making it's way around the world soon.

It's new material which is why I thought I should share it, since I saw the last thread about it.

That's absurdly light.

I will choose to ignore it.

I don't think people realise how heavy a man with bones and muscles as large and dense as a Marine's at his height would be.

You sound mad, that your incorrect viewpoint about space marine height is once again evidenced to be wrong

Lulz, can you imagine walking up to a 6'9 space marine and informing him that he's a runt?
I wonder just how many ways he'd think of to explain the severity of your insubordination to you.

scrotums, complete with appropriate nerve endings. Then Khorne would
force you and all your friends to fight to the death using your new

end up in Nurgle's clutches and he uses you as a loofah.

You poke the Marine: "You're a runt."
Marine laughs: "It's okay kid, I know you envy my awesomeness."

The other marines would all make fun of him, saying they had to borrow armor from the Sororitas to find one that fit him.

Napoleon? Yeesh. Though I like the idea of a space marine who's nick name is shorty.

Sounds OK here too!

As always...

Marine = 7' to 8'

Marine in armor = 7'6" to 8'6"

Some especially tall/big marines do show up, but I don't recall any 'short' ones being mentioned... ever!

Napolean was of average height for his time and place. He just surrounded himself with people that had a height requirement.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Noah Steere is a pro bodybuilder, 6'6 350 lbs. Dalip Singh is about 385 at 7'1 but not nearly as big or lean. At 7' you're looking at around 450 lbs realistically for someone of absurd musculature who is very lean.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Angry? Nah, just tired. Did you not read the part where I said they're measured in height of plot Who is to say that my viewpoint is less correct than the design team at THQ? Everyone is human, and who's to say that in 6th edition Marines won't be 6 feet tall, or 10+ feet tall.

Still too shy. Dalip Singh and Noah Steere don't have auxillary organs, reinforced skin, fused cartilidge and augmented skulls. We're looking at 600+ unarmored. Armored? Forget about it. We're probably pushing into "rediculous to consider" territory.

What about "Little Horus" Aximan (spl?) from the Horus Heresey books, you know, the guy they mentioned a lot, part of the mournival. He was short compared to the others right?

Well, if you think armour adds 6" to a Marine, Jes Goodwin's lifesize Astartes would be 6'4".

As always, I see no reason to go beyond the 7'0"-7'6" range (in armour) mentioned by the designer. As Jes said, "it's not the height"!

One of these threads pops up every other week, & people always give one measurement for marines & another, vastly different one for them in armour.

People claim the armour adds anything from 6 inches to two feet.

eh!?

Where is this extra height coming from? Are power armour boots platforms or something?

I find it hard to believe that the armour adds any more than the sole of the boot & that little vent thing on the crown of the helmet.

Space Marines are ~700 pounds outside their armor. That's where their unbelievable size comes from, not their height.
