Hi everyone. This thread will hopefully document the successful build of my WoC Slaanesh army. I have been playing Warhammer since second ed and have had many armies over that time but have never tried to make a heavily kit bashed and converted force. About a year ago I decided I would like to make a WoC army based around one of my favourite ever Warhammer miniatures, the mounted lord of Slaanesh.

I was on dakka trying to get inspiration to create a unit of Slaanesh chosen when I stumbled across a thread by Xenite. THIS MAN IS GOOD. You can check out what he does at http://xenite.wordpress.com/

I was inspired by his work, and although I knew I could never achieve the imagination and vision he has for conversion work, I did know I could shamelessly copy him!

So, I am stating right now, I am aware that some of the ideas I have used are not originally mine, yes I have been heavily influenced by one of our peers work. I hope that my efforts to ape what he has done so well are seen as a compliment, not an insult.

Right, down to business.

First out the blocks in my champion.

He could be used as everything from a Lord to a member of a command group. He is still pretty rough but the general idea is there. I need to smooth down the sculpted areas and I don't like the mottled effect for the icon on his shield. He is my first ever attempt at a conversion of this scale though, having only ever done head and weapon swaps before so I am pretty pleased with how he is panning out.

Let me know what you think, more will be on the way soon.

Here are some more shots of the rest of the command group

I still need to work on the hairy arm, its not quite right yet and I think it may be a bit to thick.

This model will be the musician, I have not decided whether to give the model an instrument. I quite like the idea of the whip being used in this fashion instead

Here is how they all fit together

Looking at the pictures shows me how rough some the sculpting is which is harder to pick up on when starring at them in reality at 2am. All ideas/ criticisms are welcome.

Very, very good work there! Each mini is very unique, they have a sort of Rackham style to them (discontinued miniature company) Love them!

Are they the scibor basing bits? They are much larger then I imagined, may I ask what size bases they are on? (25mm if I am not mistaken)

Keep up the great work!

Hey, guys, thanks for your early messages of support, great messages! Commander Cain, yes they are indeed the standard larger 25mm base and they are the Scibor basing pieces. I am going to use them for this and my Wight King VC army. I like the idea of both armies marching out of a forgotten corner of the world where an ancient civilisation once flourished. I don't know if you are familiar with the animation "Samurai Jack" but there is a great episode where he fights a horde of skeletons in an old graveyard full of statues, they remind me a lot from some of the artwork from that.

Here is the chaos giant for the army. I can not take any credit for the handiwork on this miniature, it was put together by my brother for his now defunct ogre kingdoms force so I have inherited him. I may change his arms to make him a little more mutated, what do yosu guys think?

I started work on my unit of Chaos Ogres today. It was a difficult toss up between leaving large areas of skin clear to fit my Slaanesh theme, yet still making them look armoured. There is still work to do on this guy, I may attach some kind of banner to give the model more height and I need to sculpt and add detail to his arm stumps.

All in all I am pretty happy with how he is turning out, the model has good forward movement which was a major goal. If anyone has any thoughts or criticisms let me know.

I also started to put together some Spawn, I love these guys but you never used to see them fielded in the last edition due to only having a few rare slots and the popularity of the Hell cannon or Giant. Now its all percentages I hope to see a few more on the tables. The Spawn Kit is pretty cool with loads of extras. I want to make spawn that look like something out of "the Thing" (one of my absolute favourite films) The first one has come out pretty well, I'm struggling to produce a second model I am happy with from the kit but it should be up before too long

Thats all Folks.

So, I have been away from modelling for a little while and have decided to shelve the Slaanesh until WoC get their new book later this year.

In the mean time I have started working on models for what is my personal favourite game that GW has ever made, Necromunda. I have always loved the renegade militia models from forge world but never had a reason to get them. A new gang seemed like a perfect excuse.

The rough idea I had is knights with gas masks. A group who go down into the most inhospitable sections of the hive to battle against the mutants and other gribblies that live there

First up, the gang leader.

Cant take credit for this dude. My brother made him as a bounty hunter but he was the inspiration for the gang so I have adopted him for now

Next some gangers, The running legs are the only ones on the Cadian sprue that I like so will have to search elsewhere for more variety, thought they fitted this model really well.

Im interested in using quite a few WFB bits to give a slightly more steampunk feel. This is my first attempt

Automatically Appended Next Post:
next up some juves, this is the hardest part because they have to look significantly different from the gangers. With that in mind I have changed up to using empire archer bodies to give them a more basic feel. still have work to do on both these guys but they are getting there.

more to follow soon...

good stuff. I'm a huge fan of Xenite's Slaanesh minis too and your lord is definitely the right sort of thing, I also think that might be the first ever plastic ogre that I like the look of.

Your Necromunda stuff is looking good, I used that exact same model as a bounty hunter, love that guy. Your juves look good and I totally agree on the Cadian legs, avoid them at all costs! Although I am not sold on the Empire frilly legs, maybe if you repeated them on other minis, but for now they look a bit out of place. Some Catachan legs look OK if you can make the awkward posing work, otherwise you might be best off with 3rd party bits. Personally I am waiting to see what the rumoured new chaos cultists will provide.

cheers Bruticus, Yeah I have big hopes for these cultists too, could be just what the doctor ordered. I may even try dark elder wyche legs as a frame that I model trousers on to get some good dynamic running poses.

In regards to the great sword legs, they look slightly out of proportion in the photo in relation to the body but in reality I'm really pleased with them. I think that with the right paint job the bunched fabric will look more like padding. I can't quite capture the model and get an image of it which represents it properly which is frustrating as its my favourite so far

I have been working on a few bits and bobs tonight. Firstly a flamer for the Gas mask gang. I have always taken one in my gangs, setting people on fire is essentially what the game is all about..

There is also this guy,

Early stages, I started off trying to make a zealot for my redemptionists (more of them later), but due to the heroic scale of the model I am starting to think he would make a good Scavvy Scaly. I am a bit annoyed because I have got rid of the fly decoration on the forearm guard since taking this photo and if he does end up a scavvy that would have been nice to keep.

Have at it Dakka, all comments welcome

Got some more done today but I am really struggling to get happy with the legs. I have resorted to cutting various bits together which is time consuming but I am fairly happy with how they are turning out.

First up the WIP of my heavy

His legs still feel a little short and I may change them. i think it may be because I have had to make him very broad across the shoulder in order to get the bolter facing forwards. Thoughts?

Second this guy may become an alt gang leader model.
[size=18]

His pose is very dynamic but he is lacking weaponry at the moment. I might give him a slung basic weapon or alternatively cut off the pointing finger and give him a nice pistol? Still very much a WIP

Now for some gangers. These are the ones with modified legs, I am really happy with how they are shaping up:

Put them together and what have you got..

Plenty of finishing and editions to be done on all of them so far.

Please let me know what you think guys, am I going in the right direction? Is there anything you can see that is not up to scratch? Advice, comments and criticism all welcome.

I really can't understand why you're not getting more attention for this blog!

I really like what you're doing with the renegades - the altered weapon choices and quality posing give them some real character, and you've managed to take them a little away from 'vanilla' Vraksians. Love the new legs too - they look like members of some bizarre cult. The juves are fantastic - they really do look like junior, ill-equipped members of the same group. Are the heads from Lead Adventure?

That vostroyan sniper is one of my favourite GW models ever and really like the change you've made - turned a very static model into something dynamic! Do you have anyone to game against, or are these purely a modelling project? I'd love to hear any ideas on the colour scheme

I'm sure other people are watching too, so don't get too disheartened about the quiet - I'm sure it'll turn around! Hope you don't mind, but I've linked you in my blog - there's a pretty big necro community on Dakka, and I'm sure they'd be interested in these guys!

Hey up chaps. Thanks for all the great messages of support, it has been quiet...too quiet... but you have changed that up which is really cool

@Scarper. yes they are the heads from lead adventure, I was really pleased with the quality of the sculpts when they arrived and they are slightly smaller than some of the other gas masks out there with a lot of variety. I really need to find a place to play but I am in London and have looked at your blog and seen that you are up in Edinburgh, went to Uni there and lived right next to you opposite the GW and Clamshell fish and chip shop on the mile before relocating to above the tron on Blair street. If only I was still there! If you are ever down in London though message me. There is a guy on here called Blackgaze who seems pretty sound and is looking for peopel to play with too. Cheers for the blog link thats awesome

@Rogue wolves, thanks for subscribing, I can't take credit for the giant, its my brothers handywork. You can find him on Dakka under the handle azekio and check out his work, a much more tallented modeller than myself

@Viktor Von Domm. Thanks for the great comments. I like to think I can paint pretty well although I never do nearly as much as I would like to. I have very little time at the moment so I'm not sure whenb stuff will get painted up. The colours I am planning for them are pale green/yellows, baige - the same kind of pallet as the ghostbusters boiler suits, and rusted orange as a spot colour. Everything very muted though with plaenty of dirt. The chaos minis are on hold until we see what th new edition brings in a month or two.

I will try and get soem more done this weekend. The Olympics are coming and Londoners across the capital are barring their doors and painting crosses on them is sheeps blood so I may be more productive over the next month or so.

All comments and criticisms of my stuff are welcome, as ever

The cold reaches of space

Wow... thanks Scarper for the intro! The gang is looking badass!

I gotta agree- you did some really fine work with the Vostroyan Sniper, and the pose/feel is completely different.

Second favorite has gotta be the juve with the downward knife and pistol- something about the pose as well there. I can't wait to see these guys painted!

And in terms of your WHFB chaos minis, your GS control is growing in leaps/bounds. The first miniatures are a bit rough, but then comes the BSB, then the big furry chaos giant (great fur texture). If you haven't already, look into getting yourself Royal Sovereign clay/color shapers. (smallest size they got) http://www.dickblick.com/products/royal-sovereign-clay-shaper-sets/ It helps smooth out your GS work and gives added control!

Excellent stuff here, really enjoy the variety and creativity of the conversions! The whole 'gas mask' look has always been creepy to me, and it fits in so well with the Grimdark. One note you should consider- think about drilling the barrels on the Bolters / Heavy Bolter / etc before you paint. If you haven't gotten to it yet then nevermind, I just know people will point it out if you don't, especially when you've put so much work into these so far.

Subbed, really interested in seeing where this goes, and I'll be back!

i can see why the bowmen and the swordsmen are so dear to you... poses and the facial expression of these look very good...

that´s why i have a ton of these too for my own needs... and i use them as often as i can...

i can´t seem to find something that would dusturb me of that first renegade tho... maybe more angles would have been helpful... but for now it seems very sound!

It's amazing how much better these guys look with correctly proportioned legs like you have given them. I still find it hard to picture how the frilly empire legs will work with the forgeworld rebel parts when painted, but in terms of proportion they look great.

The finished effect reminds me of this (old so don't necro it) thread by CMDante where he lengthens IG legs to make them look better, it seems so obvious once you see it: link

As for your new running guy it looks like it might be the raised foot that it throwing off the look of the model, the toes appear to be flat as if there is pressure on them even though they are in the air.

@ Bruticus - Cheers for the link it was good to see what other people do with the guard legs. I understand your concern, I would only say that I have not done any GS work on these minis yet (i ran out a month back and have not gone to get more) The boots will be built up so they don't look like they are wearing leggings and I will cut off some of the armour plates. Personally I love the ruffles though. I think with a paint job they will look like the crushed thick jump suit fabric that you see people wearing in lots of 80's sic fi. I think the suits in running man are made from it but would have to check. Anyway I will get off my arse and finish one of them and then we will know for sure. Thanks for the comments though.
