Hi, Dakka. Now, I have been reading up, and looking at the Striking Scorpion models. I love everything about them. Enough to think about getting Karandras, and a few squads of Scorpions. Now, I personally think that the stats are good, but what do you think? Would Striking Scorpions be useful in games?

Well, i love scorpions too! the look of the models, the lore! i have 30 of them and i sometimes field 10 or so in games....the thing is, They are hit and miss on the field. I have had them do crazy fun things, and then i have had them fail so badly that i wonder why didnt i just bring swoopin hawks!

9 regular guys and the claw are actually a good combo, but dont expect them to beat out most assualt army's (sept maybe dark eldar) because averages have them on the loosin side...unless your exarch is awesome (mine was! eat that khorne beserkers!)

But they are just...not as good at performing as i would like...if they were a troop choice id never NOT bring them i tell you that much

They're decent anti-horde, since they have lots of attacks, decent strength, decent initiative, and are fairly durable. Against Marine and similar elite armies, they're not so great.

Depends
List they are good against
-Orks
-Tau
-Dark Eldar( Ehh kinda iffy)
-Any other ---lightly--- armored army
Bad against
- MEQ
-Anything with a 3-4+ save IMO

i agree, anything with a 3+ up save or T4 and a 4+ save they are...not the best..

but if they are not a 3+ save, and are T3 they exel...(even dark eldar) i think a 10 man Scorp squad vs a 10 man wych squad will generally have the scorpions winnin, even with wych/agonize and exarch claw

Bad against SM?

Suprising Fact:

Mathematically Scorpions kill more space marines a turn than banshees do. They are you're best CC choice against anything T4 or better out of all the aspects.

Can't beat Necrons w/ CSM?

Take 2 squads of Nurgle possesed Swooping hawks and haywire both Monoliths turn 1.

Can't fail. Then charge nightbringer with a possesed Lysander w/ MoN.

Just got to think outside the box bro.

they can be good against vanilla marines, like tactical marines. they can do OK against MSU marines too (like blood angel 5 man spam) they just dont go good against 10 man assualt units to much. just not enough killy. and yeah scorps i think do better then banshee's....unless a farseer with doom is nearby then i think banshee's can win it out.

That's basically what we've been saying all along, yes. They can inflict wounds alright, but Marines have a good enough armor save to take it. Banshees are far, far better at killing Marines and MEQs.

I only think banshee's are better at killing Meq btw, because your probably always going to have a farseer of somekind nearby (24 inchs) with doom. Banshee's + Doom = dead space marines. Force multipliers are awesome

That being said, if they are stand alone, banshee and scorps i think even out (both exarchs with both good weapons are really good)

Bush? No, Eldar Ranger

PPut them in a wave serpent with the Exarch and you have an outflanking/infiltrating tank. Always nice to have.
