Hi there!

I was thinking about starting playing Necromunda, and was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit more about the game, and give me any advice on the rules and the different gangs involved?

Thanks!

Cas

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

If you haven't seen it already, GW "support" the game on their site.

They also have the rules and some gang rosters here.

Been wanting to play some 'munda for ages (even have all the terrain and stuff ), but no one to play with because my wife smells and will not play :(

Thanks for the links! I had a quick skim of the getting started section, but there wasn't much info there, and I didn't see the resources section. Better get reading!

What are your impressions of the game?

Having read about the gangs on the GW website, I'm intrigued by the Van Saars and the Delaques. Does anyone have any experience of playing and modeling these gangs, and if so, is there any advice on collecting them you could share?

Thanks!

Cas

If you are just starting out Necro, I highly recomend the "Community Edition" Rules. http://www.box.net/shared/hs3h5bu41a
Written by a fellow named Anthony Case and others. I have not tried them myself, but they look much better than the original rules. If I were to start a Necro campaign again, I'd definately use them.
Not that the original version is not a lot of fun! If you are just going to play a few one-off games it's just fine. But you'll find that in a campaign there are some pretty serious game balance issues. Too many to go into now. Check around on the forums and you'll see what I mean. The community edition has the benifit of tons of guys trying out all sorts of house rules for a decade to fix those issues.
Necro is great fun! I hope you enjoy it.
And GW does not support the game. Make E-bay your friend.

Hi there, I have played both gangs extensively. Van Saar are usually seen as the best gang choice due to the skill lists. Delaque are very shooty. Any gang is what you make of it though and the true joy of the game is in the campaign. I live in London and have been wanting to play some munda for ages. If anyone would like to play a campaign we could organise something. I don't mind hosting the night and have a fair amount of scenery, including all the original munda stuff

I recently started with a campaign of about 10 guys from my local GW....played 2 games and so far I really enjoy it. I am starting with Delaque

I'll tout Yakromunda for your Necromunda needs. From basic creation and updating of gangs, to running campaigns, creating custom equipment/skills/gangers, massive file library and forums.

Also, have a look here for all your walkway and cove needs http://www.sarissa-precision.co.uk/store/system8/ as Necromunda plays better when there is a fair bit of cover. Also have a look at Imunda and the various blogs that are about.

Sounds like an intriguing game. So do you need the official minis or can you create your own? I'm guessing it's kind of anything goes, or at least WYSIWG. Can you have Chaos renegade gangers?

You can certainly have Cultists.. maybe even use the Redemptionist rules for them..

My Escher gang has GW figs, as well as Hasslefree, Reaper and Troll Forged figs.. I just don't use the non GW at conventions that GW is at...

Also have a look at the likes of Studio Mcvey, Hasslefree and Heresy miniatures too. There should be tonnes of online content for necromunda here http://easternfringe.com/forum/index.php and in other spots too. Have a look at the blog in my sig and others like it to see how far you can go by adjusting and working on the rules to make something that fits your vision!

Here's a handy post on alternative miniature sources for Necromunda gangs on the Yakromunda forums.

If you have access to older White Dwarf magazines I'd recommend reading some of the official battle reports around issue 190. I remember The Heist in issue 198 to be terrific (Escher vs Ratskins), especially since they used the same Escher gang in a later issue (203) to see how they have evolved.

Check here for the full listing of official Necromunda material:

Too bad GW is so terrible at continued support of their specialist games.

So is Necromunda meant to be played as a campaign or can you play pick up games of it?

I am looking at the system and I like the Redemptionists, House Van Seer and the Enforcers. I think I would do Redemptionist because I could always add them to my IG army as Priests.

One can play pick up games but I generally wouldn't. The fun of the game for me is the progression and development of the gangs.

I'm just at the start of a new campaign and trying my luck with Escher. I've already had a few catastrophes but the story that's evolving is a lot of fun!

Thanks.

My friend and I are really getting into the GW specialist games (Blood Bowl and such), so I was thinking I would give necromunda a try.

And a question on Redemtionists: Are they hard to play? I love the look of the models, and I plan to grab the gang and some WFB Empire Fanatics and give them 40k weapons, but I wouldn't want to do that if they are really hard to get into.

I've never played them but we do have a Redemptionist gang in our campaign (run by Hive City Terrain's Jim). I'll see if he has any words of wisdom at tomorrow's game.

In general I would recommend running a standard house gang first to get a feel for the game before trying out one of the more esoteric factions, but that's just my way.

It's definitely a campaign orientated game but i'm just build my first gang(link in my signature) and will be playing skirmishes until i can find a group to have a campaign with. If you have a good imagination it could be a fun game to play as a one off i think.

Necromunda is a fantastic game. One of the best things GW ever produced.

Havn't played in years so not sure if they still have the outlaw gangs to which Redemptionists are one of.

Outlaws could break all the rules but had a real hard time making credits (money).

I used to play a Cawdor and Redemptionists gang in our campaigns

If there were people who still played where I lived I would be back into Necro in a flash.

I've been playing for years. Redemptionists can be a lot of fun, especially if you really get into the whole purge-by-flame schtick. flamer pistols, exterminator cartridges and full on flamers make for a lot of template action and pretty much make cover irrelevant. Otoh cash is a serious issue due to their outlaw status. Try to do caravan raids or scavengers as often as possible or you will never be able to afford new gear or replace lost gang members.

My oldest gang was an outlawed Escher gang (4378gr) that I retired ages ago. I currently have a Spyrer hunt (1038gr), a Ratskin Renegades warparty(1360gr), and a Sisters of Battle Mission(1884gr). I highly recommend having a Spyrer hunt just for taking the occasional swipe at other players who are getting too big for their boots...when your only objective in the scenario is to collect skulls, you can put some serious hurt on them.

aglondier, did you find rules somewhere for the Sisters of Battle Mission or did you make your own? Sounds awesome! I picked up Sisters Repentia with the idea of using in Necro a while back.
