The Legion beasts are really the ugliest models in PP's whole line. It's really unfortunate because I like the faction's play style and overall theme, just can't bring myself to buy those crappy models.

I kind of like their look. Reminds me of Aliens or Tyranids.

Tragically, this is another case where the art looks x100 better than the model.

PP does that sometimes and its SUPER lame. In this case, in the art that main bundle of tentacles is just hanging from the face area. The two barbed ones are up and out in a sort of reaching position like feelers. It looks WAY better than this tubular end result.

Legion beasts have been full of good angles, the "cthulu" tentacle beasties (this and the war engine) really don't fit the aesthetic, and, frankly this one feels lazy and incongruous.

I'm feeling better and better about halting my PP collecting around the release of Wrath.

I for one am a fan of our beast models. They are huge and dwarf most jacks which pleases me. I do however feel the poses they uses are pretty suck, so with the addition of plastic model kit for the heavies, that issue is pretty much solved.

I've voiced it on other boards, but I feel that a Character beast should have its own unique model. The fact that he is simply a head upgrade is disappointing, BUT it keeps costs down, and for a beast I don't plan on using hardly ever, I'm ok with it. Get some magnets, and bam, you have insta-Proteus when you deem him worthy to run for 11 pts and crap animus lol. Vayl and Abby are the only ones I'm seeing any real uses.

I'd run him just for the fact that he's a virtually invincible Shepherd.

Frankly, I hope that this is another case of 'PP's Models Look Better In Person Than In Photos'. I love the Legion beast sculpts. Big, heavy pieces with good lines. I'm hoping that the photo is what makes this guy FUgly, and not the sculpt itself.

From what I understand the tentacles on that head are very, very, long. Additionally the two spiked tentacles are much more clearly seperate and out to the side a bit. Makes it look much more interesting in person.

Makes it worse, actually. Proteus is going to be a nightmare to fit into B2B in cramped combat conditions, given that his face gets in the way when oriented towards his target, his tail gets in the way when away, and the same will interfere with anything standing to the sides. And that's just the model construction.

Hopefully it's just the paintjob and picture-taking that make him look underwhelming as a model. Wouldn't be the first time, either. And I find it strange that they mounted him on a Ravagore body, when the artwork definitely depicts him with Carnivean claws.

Actually as mutated/mutating as he's supposed to be it might be cool to model him with two different arms and more randomized back spikes.

Would certainly link him thematically with Abs and the forsaken to be a bit asymetrical.

The face reminds me alot of the monster from the end of Conan the Destroyer.

I wonder if the plastic kits can be posed as much as the Heavy Jack kits.

It might look kind of cool if he's got his tentacles angled up and out like some kind of warcry. Would generally help with model clearance as well.

I don't understand this shift in Legion aspects, why the change from "draconian land sharks" to "C'Thulunian japanese tentacle porn magnets" in this latest book? Dragons don't have tentacles for Everblights sake!

Luckily both Proteus and the Throne have underwelming rules so I don't feel any need to add either one of them to my collection...

I don't know about underwhelming rules for the BE. It's pretty solid as Hordes BE's go and I can see fielding one with certain casters.

eVayl can give it stealth and yo-yo it like mad.
pVayl - Again, Yo-yo status.

It doesn't use fury so its completely independent of the caster much like units, so it might replace certain infintry choices also or in bigger games help support them. Battlewizard is nice and the spells are good. Kill 3 infintry with tentacles and then Spine burst for another 1+1d3. Give it Carnivore for +2 hit and healing and you're having a good time.

Proteus on the other hand is 2 pts more and feels kinda MEH to me. I need to test him out with different lists before I make a final verdict.

I am toying around with an Abby list with the throne and Proteus hehe. Gonna mod Abby to have tentacles and bam, you have a anime fight club.

The best use I've heard for Proteus was using it with pVayl's Dark Sentinel to Drag things away from their intended target. Only really works if it can get to the back arc or you're just trading the charge target for an 11pt beast...tentacles from behind, painful.

More seriously though, why is that thing MAT 6? Fury 5 is cool and all but 11pts for a MAT 6 beast who's most powerful attack is a 16 is kinda trash. A Scythean hits harder and against heavier targets with its chain attack will generate the same number of initials for 2pts less and has the same threat range. It also kinda blows if you're betting on the Reach attack hitting since if it misses and the target isn't in .5" both of your initial claw attacks are also wasted.

As far as the kit, it doesn't look poseable. All three heavies are in the same pose and most of more organic plastics are single pose only as opposed to warjacks who have convienient ball joints.

Even if its not made to be poseable, plastic is easier to manipulate so I'll manage hehe.

Yeah Proteus leaves me scratching my head. Honestly for 11 pts I would have expected Mat 7 with a higher STR stat to boost those arms to 17. It would make him fieldable. Or make him MAT 7 and give him elasticity like the Swamp horror, and you'd see him team up with a carni who now has reach with that pow 18 bite. Or better yet, Typhon

Its really too bad they didn't make him more impressive because compared to a Carni, I would basically never choose him first, and I already have trouble choosing the Carni over the Scythean/Ravagore so he's at the back of the line for beast selection to me in almost (if not every) list I make.

Shrug?

I'm pretty sure you take Proteus almost exclusively for Herding. Generally speaking players try and take out key solos like the Sherpherd because they allow Legion casters to hang back.

Proteus is like an ARM 19 Shepherd that has like 30 hp. lol

In a faction with eLylyth, you got a warbeast with Drag and you complain. I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with Legion players...

Again, I'm not saying he's the most terrible beast in all of creation, but compared to our other options for 11 pts, its steep for what he brings to the table.

In a faction with phenomenal beasts who are already at war with one another point wise, its hard to justify Proteus. Play eLylyth and put Proteus in a list vs. any high ARM force and you're going to be facing the same issues she always does. Feat turn does however give you two 10" drags, IF you can land a hit at MAT 6, so its nice, but 11pts for nice seems kinda meh to me. Also, if you drag the first one close enough to be considered engaged (which I believe you HAVE to) that second shot does nothing. I'd rather have another Ravagore

Hey, you never know, maybe more testing and actually playing with him on the table will prove my knee-jerk response wrong. But its how I see it as it stands.

Please don't generalise, I for one am very happy with our first Fury5 Warbeast, with its reach chain weapons and dragging shenanigans.
The model isn't the best IMO but Everblight isn't about the pretty, it is about the abominations, especially with Abby.

Haha, Drag on a 6" RNG weapon. I guess it goes up to 10" on the feat turn, but then why is eLylyth getting her target in melee in the first place?
