There's no real answer to better/worse.
Barnabas is a relatively straightforward Iron Flesh/anti gunline/ mass knockdown warlock, and rather nasty in combat as well.
Maelock is a tricky, Cryx-y warlock with ARM buffs.
Maelock's big schtick is assassination via Incorporeal gators. He keeps death pact (or whatever that spell is called) up on a unit of Gatormen, feats to turn them incorporeal, and then 5 gators charge through a warcaster/warlock screen to put 7-10 attacks on target. Gator tossing is also available to him via Wrastlers.
Barnabas by contrast creates a unit of Def16 IF Gatormen to lock up opponents and grind them down in attrition, or create opportunities for assassination via Gator tossing.
So in short, Maelock is looking for the assassination opportunity, Barnabas is looking for a brawl that he turns into assassination opportunity.
Since they each run, essentially, the same list, you can play them in a 2-list format very easily.
