Subject: How the eff do you stop the swamp pit?

Nurgle Predator Driver with an Infestation

I'm new to Warmachine.
My 15 pt kador went against some horde alligator men (not sure what the army is. Called)
They created about 1-2 pits of doom which made their force invulnerable to my otherwise shootyish army (battle box+iceguard)
Their entire army moved up in this protective bubble and just sat inside it and fired their snapper at me.
Halfway through the game my iceguard got close enough to kill off all but 3 points of life from their warcaster.
But I decided to charge one of his huge creatures with my jacks and he just pushed them into the water casually and killed them.
Scorsha went on her assassination run on the warlock, but he just giggled and threw the damage on his creature.
She was crushed very suddenly afterwards.
I think about a fourth of the battle was lost due to a poor damage roll on the iceguard.
But a good three fourths was due to that damned swamp.
Any tips or tricks as to defeating it?

Was that your first time meeting a hordes faction? Cause the differences between fury and focus can make for a different assassination run.
Anyways as, to how to counter. Take out his beasts with your jacks. Scorsha has Boundless Charge which you should use to get off the charge. As you kill them then the warlock's power will decrease as he needs them to generate fury.
You say he fired his snapper at you. When I've meet them, they hung at the back allowing for spiny growth to be put on the beasts. That should be a prime target to destroy.
And finally only go for the assassination run when the warlock is low on fury or you have plenty of attacks to overwhelm his reserves.

Ya, first time against hordes.
I still dont know how to kill off his creatures though.
I understand it helps that I need to kill the beasts, but how???
They're protected by hat damned swamp and whenever my jacks try to kill them, my jacks just get thrown into the water and their furnace goes out.
Would man-o-war shocktroopers be a good choice?

Eh, really Barnabus is a terrible matchup for WM at 15 points. Your best bet would be to try to kill them on feat turn imo.

One thing to remember, and this got me for quite some time, the swamp pit cannot be placed anywhere on the board where it would overlap a base. Models can walk in to the swamp, but it can't be cast over them.
Pathfinder will help you get through the nasty swamps too.

Swamp pits can't be placed on models, so the way to deal with them is to sacrifice some of your infantry by running to engage/charging his. If he wants to fight your infantry, he can't be in swamp pits while doing so. If he wants to keep the swamp pit protection he has to have Barnabas activate first, then walk away from your infantry taking free strikes.
Sorscha feats. Her feat isn't just for assassinations, infantry can't shake effects, so if she charges forward, feats to catch the front line, then wind rushes back, the Gators are stuck and can't be in swamp pits in the next turn.
Also you talked about the Snapper firing, but the Snapper is their 3pt light beast without a ranged attack, you probably mean the spitter which is actually kind of a trash beast. I guess it's annoying, but it's also pillow fisted as hell and has trash DEF. He can throw you into a swamp pit, but any model in your army can just walk up and sacrifice it's action to turn the furnace back on.
Barnabas can get some good arm unless you make him stationary, he has a rule called uyielding that gives him +2 ARM while engaging enemies, but if he's stationary he can't engage or be engaged. While Fury points on a caster lets them throw a damage roll to a beast, the damage is still going somewhere and a Hordes caster can't just keep throwing damage indefinitely, even if he doesn't run out of Fury, he'll eventually run out of beasts.
It seems better than it actually is. Ran across this army in Hardcore while running an almost pure ranged list and beat it into the floor through better tactics.
