Guy seems well worth his points cost. For the uninitiated, there's an OK description of his abilities over at Battle College.
The abilities I'm most interested in are Zombify and Sacrificial Strike (yes, the one Skarre uses. Whodathunk?). Anyone had a chance to try him out yet? (I know he's not released yet.)
The model seems insane with Maelok -- its Zombify ability plus Maelok's ability to make undead incorporeal, followed the next turn by a battery of sac strikes -- seems like it's enough firepower to smash even the stoutest of warcasters with sheer damage, something I've had trouble with in Blindwater in the past. That same power will also serve Barnabas well; I've found that he's often able to dish out significant damage but not quite get there since most gator models don't have a lot of punch. (I play against a lot of Protectorate; I suspect I wouldn't be so obsessed with high armor if all I saw were elves and Cryx.)
The main points against this guy are his high cost -- he's the same amount as a Totem Hunter -- and the relatively high cost of the rest of the faction's troopers. One can only Sac Strike those almost-2-point gators so many time in a game, compared to mechanithralls (or even Bane Thralls) in a Skarre list. Do you guys think those drawbacks are meaningful? Do you think they'd be better served following the less-obviously powerful Maelok because of synergies with his spell and feat list?

I think I'm going to play with him and I'm a Legion player. Eventually branching out to Gators but for now Legion focused.
Undead alone has so many perks its amazing and you add tough on top for the sweet price of 3 on a solo who is itself survivable and then add a few more abilities for fun and its a good time.
I'm thinking of adding it with a number of our infintry options. Legionaires springs to mind but then the new UA is also very good. HH's are another that I want to play test it with. Swordsmen would be cool, and maybe even Ogrun. Wouldn't even be bad idea to run Gators and WD for Legion too... Shrug!
I love the option and it drips with flavor so I think its a great addition. Maelok is in love

There's quite a few 2 pt models that confer Tough. Rhupert, Joe, the Doom Reaver UA, and I'm sure I'm missing at least one more.
Undead+Tough, however, that's a big deal. Especially when it can be plonked on just about any unit. There are so many hordes abilities/feats that are dependent upon Living models. Undead status turns off Snacking, Carnivore, Cold Blood, Rasheth's feat, and Anatomical Precision just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more.
The Gatorman Warlock is a fine solo for 3 pts, but certainly buff-centric and lacking in front-line potential.

Yeah, I've been eye balling him like a UA for units who don't have UAs lol. Undead Legionairres, Ogrun, Crocs, Hexhunters, Swordsmen. The list continues. And the sacrificial attack is pretty good. Thats a POW 14 if I sacrifice a Legionarre... Pow 16 for a croc. And as others have stated, the bonegrinders would be a cheap sacrificial unit. Use them as a Jam and sacrifice one or two for offensive ability to eliminate key models. All these brought to you with 3 pts... Pretty good. He is a medium base so it'll be more difficult to protect him without medium based infintry models or heavies. Also, Not that Trolls get a huge boost from him, but Kriels are base ARM 15, 16 for champs. Thats a really decent dmg output for a spell. Sacrificing a Champ would be harsh, but after he charges the caster and fails to kill him, that pow 16 might be enough to finish the job. It could also be used on Nyss Hunters so now they are tough/undead with Kriel jams and possible POW 15 8" range spells. The entire army is basically med bases so yeah... Still see a spot for him with Trolls as well.

The witch doctor sacrificial strike is friendly faction only... so it can only ever be used on Minion models.

DOH!
Thats unfortunate... Means Gators with him have a little more umph. He also has command undead so thats situationally good.
Still worth its 3 pc imo even if it was undead/tough.

It's kinda neat to see that someone wants to use him for Legion infantry -- the guys who play Legion near me are all warbeast heavy (and really, who can blame them? Sick beasts, and crazy fury management!).
No word on the release date yet, though. I'm working on Bone Swarm sculpts right now, but am considering picking up two more unit boxes of Gatorman Posses; it'll give me enough troops for two full units and the extra bokors would be easy enough to convert -- snip out the staff, reposition the arms, glue in a dagger and add some clothes, maybe a dead chicken and some candles.

I love gators and want to eventually branch out to them.
Was thinking of modding a group of gators to look blighted so when they are run with my legion they are blighted Crocs hehe.
But now I want another group of gators to look undead... Damnation. I'll end up with 5 squads of gators all looking different lol.
