The masterclass books are cracking. I flip though them all the time. I seal mine on with spray varnish. Whatever 'purity seal' is. Satin I think. It's the only stuff I can get over here. Mixing them with white spirits/alchohol (?) is another way of using them. I think thats when you want a kinda of a muddy paste. I havent done that yet. Whichever way you use them, you'll need to seal them on, as they are basically just chalk powders which will rub off and get overywhere unless dealed. The masterclass books are a good start and there are laods of good tuts on YouTube as well. I would reccommend you have a seperate brush just for the powders though as they can wreck brushes, well, its more the way they go on that damages the brush.

Cool thanks for the advice!
Well it is finally getting cold here and I hopefully have another week or two of good priming weather. Nothing much to update, just getting my vanguard squad ready for the new raven guard formation (Shadowstrike kill team). That thing is beyond nasty, so I will be running ten man squads if I can with 4 th/ ss to slab wall in the front and 6 LC marines in the back to bring the pain.

Thanks man! I have an idea already for my board for next year lol.
Anyways I got into a discussion with my local gw manager. I personally think the new ravenguard captain model sucks, and it totally does, and he says it is amazing and he could make it look good. I told him no way and he bet me lunch on it, so I got pigeon holed into painting a slaughterpriest since my honor is at stake. I am going for a more grey skin tone on this guy much like my raven guard, but instead of a straight brown wash I used a purple wash mixed with a flesh wash to give it a more harrowed look. Also this will give me a chance to use some weathering powders on his legs so that is going to be exciting! Also I got my trygon primed for this months dakka painting competition, along with my fire raptor base and rhino for the raven guard. As per usual C and C is welcome.

Many projects on the go! Looks like you'll be kept busy.
The Slaughterpriest is looking good so far. The pale skin with a purple tinge works really well.
Was the Deimos rhino an easy build? I've got a Deimos pred in my backlog so I'm curious to know if it'll give me a headache or not.

I kind of like some of the detail on the new RG character, but I've not a clue what's going on with his pose. Thraxas did a conversion that swapped out the arms and it looks way better, but the standard model is a case of good design but posed by someone who doesn't really understand how limbs work.

It was an okay build, the side doors were a bit off and the usual front plate problems with forgeworld but in the end it wasn't the worst.

I feel like he would be a great DA , IF , BT model but not a raven guard model. Too ornate and the helm just ugly, but rules wise the ravens helm is sick

Not a whole lot done in the past few days, I had to write a 7 page paper about the Taiping rebellion which was super interesting but took up a large chunk of my time along with being super sick. But I did get some of the axe done and some of the horns on his shoulders. Also I am deciding on what weathering powder to use on his legs grey ash or dark sand. What do you all think?
Secondly, the new HH box came out and with the raven guard bundle I am thinking of getting it to pump up my raven guard army but at the moment I am undecided.

The metallics on that axe look great! I hear you on interesting/necessary stuff eating into painting time, I have half a squad of soon-to-be Salamanders glaring at me from the shelf every time I go back to my current essay on Napoleon.
Looks like the powder on the left is more suitable. How easy is it to mix those, looks like the base itself is somewhere between the two colours. I'd definitely say get the new HH stuff, whatever you don't use for the Ravens you can add to your Dusk Raiders.

Thanks para, I actually split the HH box with a buddy and I ended up taking one tactical squad, the terminators and praetor and what I really wanted the chaplain (which is going to go under the knife to make a sweet jump pack chaplain). I have decided to go with the dark sand this go around, but I haven't actually painted anything since my latest update .
What have I been doing instead? Well building my fire raptor which has been the most infuriating kit I have ever built and has a million gaps to green stuff, but at least I got it done. For those with experience in green stuffing gaps what is the best way to go about it? With out too many noticeable mistakes once it has dried? Also I got my last forgeworld order in and something sneaky has worked its way into my hobby area.

Your best bet is to get some milliput rather than GS if you can, as that's easier to sand once dry. In either case, though, you'll want to use as little as possible and get it as smooth as possible, then once it's completely dry, use a file or some fine sandpaper to get it smoother. Do that, and it should be just about unnoticeable after primer.
Are those Recon Marines or Mor Dethyn?

Alright I will get some milliput! I assume color doesnt matter? Also any suggestions for making it smooth pre hardening?
And those are the mor deythan! Though I will be using them as sternguard with combi weapons and I believe I found a nifty way to give camo cloak scouts the sniper rifles so nothing goes to waste!

Basically just try and smooth it out with a flat surface. I find rolling an old paintbrush handle over it back and forth works well, just be sure to wet it first as otherwise the milliput will stick.

Alright thanks for the advice! Hopefully I should be starting that this weekend.
Anyways I finally finished up my slaughterpriest and just in time too. It was a pretty fun model to paint, but I still don't think I will be playing AoS anytime soon.

Thanks warboss! I am a big fan of pallid skin tones on a lot of models, it makes them seem much more menacing.
Paradigm wrote:That chap is awesome, great use of colours!
Thanks para, I was surprised when I built him because he is huge and it allows for lots of good color usage.
In other news I have gotten jack all done because of fallout 4 coming out. I actually really enjoyed it, but so far it was not as good as fallout 3. Tell me who did you all ally with and why? For me it was the brotherhood because ?
Though last night I got to work on my battle of calth set that I split with a friend, I ended up getting the two characters, one terminator squad and one tactical squad. I ended up getting the chaplain done, which I converted to a jump pack chaplain, and five terminators. I still have five sniper scouts, ten cc scouts, two tactical squads, two sternguard squads, and a vanguard veteran squad to build. But I plan on getting them done by this weekend so I can hopefully prime them all before the winter sets in .

Nice posing on the Termies! Really going to have trouble kitting out my squad, there's just too many cool options (and in 30k, they can mix and match, so choosing is even harder).

Yeah the kits are amazing, I am thinking of giving the lightning claw to one of my vanguard vets to mix up the weapons they have. But that pattern of termies have always been my favorite, though I don't take them so I decided to give them a fluffy loadout for something fun to paint.

Wow so its almost been a month since I last talked to you guys. But it is for good reason, it was to keep my 4.0 gpa for this semester and I am happy to say that I succeeded! So I now have one month to relax, game and actually paint .
My local GW also had a secret santa party, and I decided to join in on the fun. And well I gotta say my secret santa was extremely generous. A drop pod, two bike boxes, two LSS s, a manufactorum, Ironclad dread, and a vindicator! Suffice to say I got a lot of work ahead of me.

That is a very nice haul. I'm jealous. I also love that Jump Pack Chaplain. I do have a question though, how easy would it be to swap out the crozius on the Chaplain for say, a power weapon? I wanted to convert him into a Captain for my 40k UM

Dead simple, the arm is a separate piece from the elbow downward so you could swap it for something completely different if you wanted to.

I love the chaplain myself and he will be one of the first ones getting paint on him . But the swap is as easy as para said it is!

I know I got so much to do. 30 tactical marines 10 sternguard, 10 vanguards, 15 scouts, one LSS , a rhino, a razorback, a dread, 10 devastators...and that is without the secret santa stuff I got yesterday

Alright so I actually started painting and am getting back into the groove. I started out easy and decided to finish up my BaC converted chaplain, I finished most of it up minus matting down the transfers, some minor clean up if I find anything, putting some moss on the tree stump, and laying down the last bit of realistic water. I also finally got to use the RG legion transfer sheet instead of the normal IA8 one, and I gotta say they are really nice, lots of little transfers that will make a mini look good.
