I assume that the white sheets are positioned so that an external camera can record the position of the "nano quadrotors" and relay that data to a computer.

It would be interesting if there were some way to communicate between the quadrotors their individual positions.

I too would like to welcome our new mini-copter Overlords. Please make yourselves at home, and please enjoy full use of the fridge and television...

Mate your going about this all wrong. All you gotta do is equipt them with a low level laser and they become the flyswatters. It would be awesome having one of these things zooming about the place getting into little dog fights with flies and mozzies.
Mice and Rat problems?? No worries. Just program them for seek and destroy missions and your rodent issues are a thing of the past.
Cant be bothered entertaining baby? Got ya covered. Set a random movement pattern and let Quadcopter entertain baby for you with its dazzling array of maneuvers!

This guy will outrun you but being headless you should have no fear of being eaten. Wait until they really crank his speed up, hypnotic stuff.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17269535

A headless robot dubbed "Cheetah" has set a new world speed record, according to its owners.

The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency said the four-legged machine achieved 18mph (29km/h) on a laboratory treadmill.

The agency said the previous land speed record by a legged robot was 13.1mph.

Darpa said that the project was part of efforts to develop robots designed to "more effectively assist war fighters across a greater range of missions".

Darpa - which is run by the Pentagon - funded the Massachusetts robotics company Boston Dynamics to build the machine.

"We plan to get off the treadmill and into the field as soon as possible," said the firm's chief robotics scientist, Alfred Rizzi, in a statement.

"We really want to understand what is possible for fast-moving robots."

They've become seabourn:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17367984

Four robots have set a new distance world record, swimming more than 3,200 nautical miles (5,926km) across the Pacific Ocean.

The drones are taking part in a project to gather data about the composition and quality of sea water.

Built by US-firm Liquid Robotics, the PacX Wave Gliders are expected to cover 9,000 nautical miles (16,668km) by their journey's end.

The first leg of their voyage from San Francisco to Hawaii took four months.

The robots are designed to reach previously inaccessible areas of the ocean and gather data on how acidic the water has become and the shrinking size of fish stocks.

The previous Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered at sea by an unmanned device was 2,500 nautical miles (4,630km).

"I have no doubt new ocean discoveries, insights, and applications will emerge from the PacX data set," said Edward Lu, chief of innovative applications at Liquid Robotics.

That is really neat, but I wonder how pratical it is right now. When I will be scared is when then can make machines the size of a real insect with flapping wings, camera etc.

Also can't wait until I can just plug my phone into the A/V jack in the back of my head and go surfing the 'net.

Wow, I have been watching and reading way to much GitS. =o\
