I have been collecting and battling 40k for a while now, and I a looking to get a large model for my marines. Because of the price of these models, I want to make sure that I get the right one for me. I can't decide between the Reaver class titan, the Warhound titan and the Thunderhawk gunship. Which is tactically better? Assuming that I can buy and build them logically (though the reaver may be a stretch for price). Remember, they need 6s to hit the thunderhawk . Also what are some tactical strategies for each? Thanks.

Depends on preference and playstyle. Titans will anchor a defensive line like nothing else and take a lot of firepower to down; the Thunderhawk looks cooler and can blow gak up anywhere on the board (as well as deliver fifteen assault Terminators into the heart of the enemy) but can be killed by common AA guns (your opponent only has to have invested in a $100 Nightwing to blow up your $800 Thunderhawk).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Another factor to be considered is that a lot of the in-store apoc.games, the space is two tables pushed together. Limiting the thunderhawk. I want to thank AnomanderRake for the great response. But I always like more opinions...

Warhound titan.
It's still a titan, but small enough and cheap enough (points-wise and money-wise) to be more used with any list you build as well as not being a nightmare to transport.

Also, two warhound titans are the last line of defense for the eternity gate, an honor considering that sanguinus held the gate alone during the horus heresy.

never liked that personally how was a guy that could get smacked around by Ka'Bandha (first time round) be as solid defensively as 2 titans

On the OP though one of my mates had a lot of good games using the thunderhawk to deploy his TH/SS termies right into the heart of my lines.....jerk

I know a good model builder that built a thunderhawk, and said he would never do another one. I however, would go Thunderhawk because I love flyers.

reaver titan all the way. although you get more void shields, and more structure points, plus1 more gun on a pair of warhounds.

Which is why if you look at purely the rules - go a pair of warhounds with dual turbo lasers over the reaver.

Scratchbuilding is always an option. I know for a fact that there are templates that fans have made that will let you make some FW vehicles out of cardboard, plasticard, etc.

Other than that, just go along with what fits in your budget, and what is the most aesthetically pleasing to you.

Also, straying a bit from the topic, are there any thoughts on the rumored plastic thunderhawk? If I got the resin forge world model and a plastic model came out within a year, anyone within 20 miles of me would hear me yell in that order.

people have been saying a plastic thunderhawk is coming for years... i dont believe it will. GW has not exactly been "apoc" unit happy, tending to focus more on the standard game. i think the baneblade and stompa are exceptions and not a pattern.

if you really want a t-hawk...grab the pattern off the internet, or kitbash some stormravens and such together. but the cost of the plastic kits would run pretty close to the FW one anyway... so yea.
