So are the OK special characters ever worth taking?

Skragg is if you build a list around him.

Other than that nope

I want to like Skragg a lot. But Gorgers are simply overpriced. Skragg is nakked until he gets Regeneration, and so much stuff has flaming. Every other Butcher will be kitted-out with a ward save and/or armor and he's got a big pot. The Ogre Special section is one of the greatest in the universe. Sooo many good choices. One Gorger can be a scary concept. But building a list on them is extremely dangerous. And you give up your chance to have leadbelchers, mournfangs and maneaters, some of the best stat-wise and cost units in the entire game (not so much maneaters but they're damn cool).

The Guttsman is terrible. Unbelievably bad.

Golfag is not good. His magic item idea is unique. And it's unique because you have to roll it while you're there playing and it gives you the chance to tailor a list to your enemy. Basically the only time you can do such a thing in a real tourney-like setting. I think some people overlook that, but ifyou roll bad, you basically hosed yourself from the very start. But he's not worth his points.

The super fatty king is just too expensive. And Stupidity can actually be helpful sometimes. In this age of BSB and IP.

But the Guttsman is such a cool model, use him for your Bruiser. Skragg is also cool-looking. And I really want to like him, because I really like Gorgers. Their model, their everything. But I'd say they are maybe 25% too expensive, which is huge. And now the way ambushers work where you come in, SURPRISE, and stand there for a round. It's just not nearly as effective as it used to be.

Cheers for the run down. Yeah it seems better to not take them unless I am feeling very fluffy and not competitive.

Agreed on the Gutsman model, very cool, I had him in my hands today and very nearly purchased.

Scragg can be good, but like he said you need to build around him.

other then that, garbage. Golfag's less stinky then the others, but its like the difference between a dumpster full of rotten food and one full of cardboard and old furniture.

is it just me or is the Gutsman missing rules? He seems to cost 100pts more than a bruiser and only has the equivalent to a halberd to show for it. Other than that, his stats and equipment are identical.

The Gutsman has only one thing going for him and that is he is one of the best models GW has ever put out.

Other than that he is a "challenge hero" who gets spanked down in a challenge due to no wardsave

It's a trend that GW seems to have: overpriced special characters that aren't nearly as good as what you can build using the generic templates. Apparently, having a name is worth a LOT of points all by itself.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

I wish this was true, unfortunantly it isn't.

GW seems to think that HKB is worth way more then it is, namely because of all the big monsters they have released. Unfortunantly they can't put 2 and 2 together and see that there are few monsters that will end up in challanges AND those that will will probably kill him long before he gets to swing.

Fortunantly, this will eventually curb all those OP special characters out there. Teclis and Kairos will eventually settle onto the dung heap with everyone else.
