hey Dakka, I played a couple of games yesterday with units I normally don't use and the Lictors shined. The Lictors went through Obliterators, a Dreadnought, and a Landraider. So after that I feel I've got to put them in my main list. So what is their role? And what supports do you think they should have?

The few times I've bothered with them in a 'Nid list was really only to speed up the Genestealer outflank rushing, tbh, but they're a decent unit to have operate ahead of a swarm to distract and otherwise pull/push units outta that annoying cover. They're also not half bad at popping most tanks, either.

As an anti-tank roll, they shine as long as the vehicle isn't moving at cruising speed. S6 with Rending is a good thing.

The problem with lictors is a squad of 3 is nearly 200 points, and matched against a tactical squad of space marines, are not guaranteed to win combat on their own especially if a power fist is hidden in the unit. Also placement of the lictors is key because you want to maximize their longevity with stealth. Getting caught in the open and mowed down by bolters is not fun. Also anything s8+ will ruin your day, instant death is a real buzz killer.

So as an overall synopsis, lictors for me aren't an auto-include (until their pheremone bonus works while they're in reserve anyway...which it currently doesn't thanks to a crappy FAQ) but I will use them once in awhile. Just choose your targets carefully and remember they have fleet - so you don't need to put them right next to the enemy on the turn they pop up, especially if there is better cover somewhere nearby but not too close.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.
