The Shadow's High Elves 2K List...

Ok, before I begin, I'd like to say that this team is not meant to be super-competitive, but is designed to win me games. I'm trying to cut costs, so I'd prefer it f you could tailor your improvements so it still includes the models I've already got, which are Mage, Seaguard x20, Archers x16, Dragon Princes x5, Ellyrian Reavers x5, Lion Chariot. Although I'd make an exception for the Reavers. Also, as it isn't competitive, my opponent probably won't mind that I've gone 3 points over, either.

If I wanted to go all out competitive, I'd probably ditch the archers and possibly the reavers for another mage/more spearmen or cavalry, give the Archmage Forliath's robe and some other stuff

A few notes:

1. Reavers are worthless. We all have the IoB ones, sadly they will sit on the shelf until they are moved to core or made significantly better.

2. 20 is a low number for spearmen or sea guard. Boost the Sea Guard perhaps to 25 or 30, drop the spearmen, use the remaining points needed for core in archers, splitting them into 2 units. Another option is to drop Sea Guard altogether(use the models as spearmen) and run 30 spearmen and more archers. I find Sea Guard to be overpriced. YMMV

3. 15 is a bad number for Swordmasters. go 12 or 18 in ranks of 6 wide. Banner of Sorcery is worlds better than Arcane Prot.

4. I'm not keen on mounted characters, but I see the use with yours. I'd rather save the points for more bodies on the field.

EDIT: 5. being 3 points over is not ok. Max limits exist for a reason. You may get away with it when playing friends, but in random pick up games it is frowned upon.

14 is fine for swordmsters 2 ranks of seven means that they all will get to attack against any unit of atleast 5 20mm bases.

I would proxy your LSG as spearmen and use them in one unit so you have atleast one ranked unit.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

1) Ok, but I'll need some war machine defence, so I'll need to add an Eagle

2) I find them to be effective. Obviously more is better, but more is also expensive

3) Point taken, I'll try to fix the numbers around

4) YMMV, as you said, it does have use

5) Meh, I wouldn't mind it if I were the opponent. But I suppose these changes will take me under anyway/

~~~
So, if I drop the reavers and add a great eagle, that'd leave me with 59 points, which is 6 spearmen. And some random 5pt magic item somewhere. Sound good?
Reavers for war machine hunting, not as good as eagles, and more expensive. Reavers for vanguard on the flanks, free reforms, fire after marching, and move+fire after a reform? Sounds like some nice flank harassment to me. Space them properly and they'll be nicely equipped to add a flank or rear charge combat bonus to your main troops. Still overpriced, and should be core, but they do have their uses.
If you're going to run the chariot, try modifying your points to get two of them to charge in conjunction with your princes. 2D6 impact hits, 11 S5 lances, 4 S6 from white lions. All before your opponent hits back. That's called "ouch...". Get flank charges or rear charges with any of those units, and see if your opponent doesn't just remove the tray...
Lore of Life is fine. You're bound to get a double to pick at least one spell, and a 1-3-5-6 combo is ideal to me. Ignore miscasts on a 2+, and it stays in play. Regen d6+1 wounds worth of models, sounds smexy. Dwellers, we know it's awesomeness. Don't neglect the +4 regen either. And you'll still have one more spell for higher toughness or more damage if you wish.
The revision looks decent. My only advice is to drop the luckstone on the BSB and take the Dawnstone or Guardian Phoenix.
Also, get rid of the star lance, just give him a great weapon. Str 6 vs Str 7 once and Str 4 there after? I'd rather have the Str 6. Plus, that should help you find some points for more bodies elsewhere.
Honestly though, you can run your archmage as the army general, I'm not seeing a ton of use for the second noble. Axe him, and you can make your BSB a lot more difficult to kill, not to mention find some points to spread around to the other units, maybe even just a second eagle.
For the BSB, here's a couple ideas if you want a bit more survivability. Armor of caledor/dawnstone/GW = 58pts for a 2+ rerollable armor save, always. Heavy Armor/Shield/GW/barded elven steed/Helm of Fortune/Gaurdian Phoenix = 80pts, 1++ armor save, rerollable, and a 5+ ward.
Drop a single guy from the sword masters, run them 7 wide and 2 deep. 21 str 5 attacks against standard rank units.
Lore of life works just fine, but if you are going to play friendly games and feel like having some fun, take Archmage\lvl 4\book of hoeth, and just smile. Chances are quite good you'll get at least one double when rolling to choose spells giving you a choice, so don't worry about not getting the spells you want. If you're going for a particular effect with a spell combo, just take the minimum lvl you need for the spells and a seerstaff.
Aipoch makes good points. I agree that the General noble isn't really needed and those points can be used on something like a lion chariot or making other units bigger/better.
I personally run 2 different setups for my BSB(note that I almost never mount my characters). 1st is Armor of Caledor/Guardian Phoenix/ GW. This gives a 2+/5+ save which isn't too shabby. In some lists my Prince takes the Armor of Caledor, at which point my BSB takes Helm of Fortune, Dragon Armor, Guardian Phoenix, Shield(just for shooting and spells) and a GW. That gives a 4+(3+ for ranged) rerollable and 5+ ward. Alternately, you could do Armor of Caledor/ Dawnstone/ GW which gives you the 2+ reroll, but keep in mind that armor saves can be mitigated by higher Str attacks, whereas ward saves cannot which is why I prefer the ward save over rerolls if it comes down to one or the other.
As for working with Lore of Life, if you take a lv4 and a lv2 you automatically get all 6 spells and can swap one for the default. Silver wand on a lv4 is usually enough to guarantee getting the spells you want though, at only 10 points.
At any rate, all HE melee characters should be taking great weapons as they will hit at Initiative speed with rerolls to hit. This is almost always the best way to go.
Well, as I said, I'd like to conserve cost, and buying the Noble Box Set is a good way of getting 2 good characters. Paying that price for one isn't in my best interests. Besides, the Noble will provide excellent combat presence.
I suppose I can tweak around the various magic items on the characters. I'll post back with changes in a bit
